In a series of interviews and appearances spanning nearly three decades, Lauren Bacall shares thoughts and memories of her friend Katharine Hepburn. The actresses met during the making of the 1951 film 'The African Queen', and Bacall later adapted Hepburn's Oscar-nominated 1942 role in 'Woman of the Year' for the Tony-winning 1981 Broadway musical of the same name.

Glenn close mentioned at a tribute for her that she inspired her to act and she sent back a latter saying "Dear Glenn Close, A great big hug for your sweet contribution. I’m glad I persuaded you when you were a mere child to join this terrible profession, this terrifying profession, and, let’s face it, this delicious way to spend your life. With affectionate thanks, Kate Hep”

I met Miss Bacall in 1994 at the premier after party of "READY TO WEAR" /"PretaPorter" a Robert Altman film she starred in, our tables were next to eachother at the famous ROSELAND BALLROOM in NewYork City -a friend dared me to ask her for a dance , i did , she said, ( why yes of course) Miss Bacall, was ever so lovely and appreciative, after i escorted her back to her table ... she said very kindly, ( thank you for making an old broad feel young again) I was in pure heaven, she was wearing a scent that was truly divine, a true lady, grace ,class & beauty all the way.. the epitome' of Hollywood Royalty ! I will never forget it !!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I don't know why but I never liked Katharine Hepburn as an actress or a person. Then, I realized how stupid I was for judging the personality and morality of a person without finding out all I could about them. So I decided to do that. I am ashamed, but also proud, to say, the more I learned about her, the more I liked about her. Since then I have learned to keep my mind's mouth shut until I have thoroughly heard and seen all there is. Judge not has a familiar ring to it.

Her father was a very liberal doctor and her mother a leader in the women's voting rights movement. She lost her older brother in her teens (I think), most thought he killed himself. Her acting was a way for her to deal with things. She was ambitious as hell, and very smart. Not intelligent in the books but smart. She managed to mask her personal love life by mounting relations with famous men who were not exactly straight, like Spencer Tracy and even Howard Hughes. (Her first husband was totally gay and was her first attempt to use a man as a beard. They never lived together, and even have sex. She kept him around until going after larger prey). They were her beards, but she was also theirs. I think her major love was Laura Harding (name?) who was the heir to the American Express money tree. Harding said once that she believed Hepburn wasn't capable of loving anyone, that she was just too narcistic. And career driven. I guess she loved being famous. I would think she would be a cautious role model, depending on how open minded you are.

@@errolpletcher9186 Despite the extensive puffing of facts on the internet and Wikipedia, no, Mrs. Hepburn (as she was known) wasn't a co-founder of Planned Parenthood, although she was part of a trio that met with Margaret Sanger a number of times (Sanger mentions her just once in passing in a sentence in her autobiography, published in 1938.) Mrs. Hepburn *was* part of a group that was inspired by Sanger, and she helped form the Connecticut Branch of the American Birth Control League in 1923 (in 1921 Sanger founded the American Birth Control League [precursor to PPFA] before Mrs. Hepburn ever met her.) Hepburn looked a bit like Lauren, actually. Nobody ever took notice because Katherine never combed her hair. LOL. Yes, I do crack myself up.

Bacall was a very young woman with 2 little children when her beloved husband (Bogie) a much older man was dying at their home. Except to take the children to their religious classes she never left his side. She was his adoring and loyal wife til the very end. You bet Hepburn was impressed with her behavior, the entire world was.

Back in late 1960s a friend of mine was in a bar and met a guy who was getting drunk over his wife's love affair with Katherine Hepburn. Later realized it was Jason Robarts.. Robarts was then married to Lauren Bacall.

Lauren Bacall unfortunately had a thing for abusive alcoholic men. My dad was very controlling and before he and my mother divorced, he accused her of having an affair with a woman neighbor who she talked to every day--it was ridiculous, this was an elderly lady who lived with her sister. My mother was so disgusted it's one of the reasons they got divorced.

I have lived on my own, romantically speaking, most of my adult life, about 40 years and I understand what Bacall meant by creating a sort of shield of toughness.

Such a wise woman, Ms. Lauren Bacall. She said she doesn't believe that having inner strength equates to being a tough woman. Wow! Ya Heard???

Dick Cavett broke into Tick Hall that was OWNED bt Hepburns family. She got him back by making him rearrange his set during an interview like he rearranged her furniture. A suspicious fire almost destroyed the house.

It's funny, and I say this with all due reverence and therefore a great deal of trepidation, but the one encounter I had with Lauren Bacall was a brief argument in which she quite handily b--ched me out. A 'umbling experience, but there it was!

Thank you, Lauren Bacall. Wow. What a great era I was able to see & appreciate so much growing up (born '61). I don't know if it would have been better, or not, to know our world would end in 50 years to the hands of sociopaths of all kind (all continents), whose greed escalated to psychopathy. How do you rid yourself of sociopaths?

Can you point me to the series of clips entitled "Divo on Divo" where male actors are asked to talk about each other? Of course you can't, because this kind of bullshit objectification only happens to women.
