Smart is imo THE most versatile defender, which he has shown by guarding luka, clamping him, and also guarding porzingis pretty well in the post

Everyone can guard Porzingis in the post
@whocares32014 жыл бұрын
I dont see how 34/6/9 on >50% fg and 1 TO can be concidered "clamping" by any means. If he would do so goos on luka, they would keep him on luka since noone else could guard him apperantly and porzingis just isnt creating for himself. Plus literaly anyone can guard KP in the post, he has no lowpost game whatsoever. I mean I bet barea does a decent job of that in the training. That being said, smart is rly nice. Most versitile defender right now is between him and AD I would say.
@malachi40434 жыл бұрын
@@whocares3201 most of lukas point were on P&R, switches and other defenders lol you can even see that in highlights. Game stats IS NOT the same as matchup stats Edit: in the first quarter, the only shot doncic made against smart was on a drive where smart was playing help defense. He made one more in the whole game w smart being the one guarding his shot, so yeah, smart did clamp him up

Malachi he’s not more versatile than Ad (he can some how stop the pick and the roll it’s weird) or kawhi (for obvious reasons)
@malachi40434 жыл бұрын
@@knodeway1826 id put smart slightly over AD just bc as great as AD is, he isnt as good on the perimeter against quick guards or forwards. Id say versatility wise its a toss up between smart and kawhi but id give smart a slight edge just because of the fact hes holding opponents to only 33% from the field while kawhi holds opponents to 36%. 3% isnt a huge difference but it definitely makes an impact on the game

Beverly's aggressiveness and competitiveness can also lead the other team to want to play better. Like against the Suns. Though this will work perfectly come playoff time, bc not a lot of players can handle pressure. Though it didn't work on KD lol.

Marcus Smart is the best pound for pound defensive player in the NBA, and his all around game is very good now that his shooting(although not in this game), passing, and ball handling are all good. IMO he has a legit shot at an all star spot if the league really gives a shit about defense

Jaylen is averaging nearly 20 a game on a good efficiency. He plays excellent defense and is a big part why the Celtics are one of the top teams in the NBA. He had a bad game. If you watched Celtics games more you’d see how good of an offensive player he’s become already. He’s already had more than 5 20 point games this early into the season.

So I have a couple questions about the Clippers. How is their interior defence? And how good is Doc at defensive schemes along with rotations? I ask these because it seems like it could be a weak point in the playoffs.
@lionelsenga37524 жыл бұрын
I feel like they should just play the simplest defense ever, just switch everything and work on help rotations.They are one of the few teams that don't need complex defense since they have 3-4 good/great defenders that are also good/great 3 point shooters.
@thedimedropper96014 жыл бұрын
@@lionelsenga3752 I don't know. Being in Canada and watching the Raptors the last few years, Nick Nurse running complex defensive schemes helped them win (wall of Giannis, Box and 1 vs Curry, the Philly series), Dwayne Casey would've gotten them a 2nd round exit because he would've sent a straight up double team and left someone open all the time, (it's part of why LeBron killed us every year). Point being, in some matchups vs a dominant inside player, they may need a good gameplan besides throwing PG or Kawhi at their best player and sending basic doubles vs a guy like Embiid. Kawhi was great vs Giannis, but that Raps team had perfect rotations and personnel to help him when he got beat. In a matchup vs the Lakers, and Philly or Milwaukee, a basic scheme will get exploited as most of their stars can use their gravity to create shots for other players (Embiid may struggle, but game 1 vs Boston this year is an example of him being doubled nearly every time).
@lionelsenga37524 жыл бұрын
@@thedimedropper9601 One thing to take in count is that the Raptors are a continuity; Over the years they have had plenty of time to practice their schemes(Nurse was there even with casey being the head coach). The east also has many star bigs vs the west where most are perimeter oriented. That is why I think for now switch defense should be their go to, but like in off season or practice then try to include other schemes.
@thedimedropper96014 жыл бұрын
@@lionelsenga3752 while that may be true in some aspects, one thing it isn't was the practicing of schemes, that was implemented last year, and Gasol was a mid-season pickup. And the reason I mention it is the fact that Bucks and 76ers are very likely to make the finals, the Lakers look really good and are a potential matchup, and they have AD. It's a real concern for a team that wants to win it all. Of course it goes both ways with Lou, PG and Kawhi. That's where coaching comes into play.
@rome81804 жыл бұрын
I see another weak link the Clippers' defense: rim protection. There are rumors about the Clippers trading for Marcus Morris, but I don't get the point of that. They need to trade for a rim-protecting center.

I’d just rather have those players taking those shots in those situations

@grayson09164 жыл бұрын
Ya Boi even if he Kawhi was on Kemba that’s what an offense is for lol you try to get the good players switched on to bad players. I think a lot of it is Brad plays favorites with guys and refuses to admit he was wrong when they can’t handle what he’s asked of them. Same shit with Hayward last year they gave him the ball SO much when he just needed time to get in shape not 15 shots a game.

Makaveli97 I’ll say give them until January if they’re still doing this bad then yes I’ll say it’s long gone ( but until pop retires and the gm leaves I wouldn’t doubt them going back to being good after one year) while their terrible on defense they’re still one of the best teams in the league currently on offense (Demar derozan is wow though he’s playing terribly on defense and isn’t committed to any type of defensive system whatsoever)
@makaveli97894 жыл бұрын
Jorge Anta The spurs aren’t what they once were. DeRozan is pissing me off with how he plays. He can’t shoot 3s and refuses to work on his 3 pointer. He’s long and athletic yet he’s a terrible defender. Sometimes Aldridge shows up, other times it’s like he’s not even there, no in between. Marcus Morris is a bitch and made us lose Bertans. We have no good 5s, Poeltl is ass and is getting out rebounded by trey lyles, who I might add is not much of a better player than poeltl. It’s hard to watch them play.
