Game 4, roughly 30 seconds left in regulation, Sonics up 3. Shawn Kemp gets the sh*t hacked out of him going to the hoop and goes to the line to shoot two. If he makes just one of them this upset never even happens. As a Seattle fan I’m still not over it. Sonics would have rolled to the finals after that and most likely handled NY in the finals IMO. Their next two playoff opponents would have been teams they had beat the year before. Denver despite having 21 less regular season wins than Seattle was just a really bad matchup specifically for the Sonics. Had they drawn anyone else at the 8 spot in round one they’d have been just fine.

Lol i noticed Asian dudes hate Melo smh that stray was unnecessary. Melo was a significantly better player than Gordon That being said, youre completely underselling Gordon and your tone towards his skills is oddly dismissive. Gordon is ALREADY the 2nd best player on a championship team. When you look at him, he looks like a star caliber player. Murry is waaaay too inconsistent to be considered star caliber while Gordon has been a pinnacle of consistentcy

Welllll I think this can all be boiled down to Kobe's false accusation is what created too much of a media circus, on top of Kobe and Shaq daddy wrestling over who's team it was...they had ZERO depth and went all in on the starting lineup...idc who you are, when one of the stars was 40 and the other wasn't too far behind that, you can't expect them to be playing tons of mins...and it cost Karl Malone his first injury, EVER. But that's just the way it goes I suppose hahaha.

What happened to the 2004 Lakers? The 2004 Detroit Pistons.
@bananaman5668

The thing I hate about comparisons between all time teams of the past to today like the Warriors is the constant mention of things like pace and 3s as if there just time traveling those teams straight to today without any adjustment period whatsoever. Whether it be the 80 Lakers, 82 Lakers, 85 Lakers or the 87-88 Lakers. Or whether it be any other team even all time great team like the 67 76ers, 71-74 Bucks, 72-73 Lakers, 83 76ers, 84-86 Celtics, 89-90 Pistons, 91-93 Bulls, 96-98 Bulls, 00-02 Lakers, 08 Celtics, 09-10 Lakers, 12-12 Heat. Whatever. Any team you can think of. Doesn’t matter. If you put them in Todays NBA with Todays Rules Against Todays Teams who take Double, Triple, Quadruple, 5X, or heck even 10X the amount of 3s as they did. They are going to be at a disadvantage and will probably get their asses whooped no matter how good they are defensively on the perimeter because not only are the rules completely different today. But none of those teams would even know how to approach defending against the 3 ball. You can’t just plop one team from the past into today and call it a fair game the same way you can’t just put any of today’s teams in the previous era. Ultimately if the Lakers grew up in todays era with todays 3 point shooting then they would look like a completely different team and they would be shooting lots of 3s just like todays. And if the Warriors were to grow up in the previous era then they would’ve be shooting 3s altogether. In fact most of them probably wouldn’t even be able to make a team!! That’s why Magic said they’d sweep them. And that’s why all those other old head say the same thing about all those other teams of the past because their envisioning how the Warriors would play had they can up under their Era. Which is exactly the opposite of what people who talk about this kinda nonsense do for the all time teams that Challenge the Warriors. It’s all Stupid

Slight edge still goes to Offense tho. The reason why Offense also wins championships is because while Defense wins championships. Offense wins games. And in order to even get to a championship in the first place. You need to win a crap ton of games. Plus the Championship is a type of game itself. Winning 151-150 is the same as winning 77-76 One scenario has abysmal defense. The other has abysmal offense. And while the point differential is the thing that matters most. At the end of the day that team still had to score that 151st or that 77th point to win. Otherwise they would’ve lost. Basketball is a game with possessions with both teams trying to dictate the pace or the flow of the game. And because of this a lot of games end up going back and forth Whether that seesaw is a higher or lower scoring affair doesn’t actually matter because the thing that keeps that allows the team to keep fighting back is always the offense. They can score like crazy and make it 75-76 then all of a sudden clamp down the opponent to 0 points in the second half. But if they can’t buy a bucket that second half then they’ll lose. And if a team wants to break away from that close game then they will need offense yet again. After all if it’s 77-76 in the 3rd quarter. And you still hold them to 0 points but score 0 yourself. Yes you win the game but the point differential remains just 1 after an entire 4th quarter. Defense wins championships might be true in some other sports where scoring is in the single digits and combined point totals can multiply week to week. But this is basketball. Every team is gonna score 100+ regardless. 80%+ of the games are within 10 points by the final 5 minutes of the 4th quarter regardless. It’s whoever scores more points wins. Not whoever prevents less points. You can’t stop teams from getting theirs. You can only make sure that your own is more than theirs. Both are important but… Offense > Defense.

Umm. Yea nah. PER is still pretty crap imo. I don’t want to say it’s as bad as QBR in football but it’s essentially kinda the same thing. Play styles. Players Positions as well as their Roles and situations. Vary and can never be accounted for by one singular metric. The closest you’re ever going to get is by categorizing each players type of play style, position, role, and situation etc and figuring out the best stat for each of those categories. For example if Assists are the most important stat for a player who is a true point guard. And Rebounds are the one of the important for players who are true big men. Then you evaluate both of those types of players Point Guards and Big Men by their respective most important stats rather than the same one. Obviously I’m just using assists and rebounds as an example. But if you can use a stat like PER and specialize it for every type of player then you can probably get closer to a true singular metric that can evaluate all players. Whether they be 6th men coming off the bench. Leading Scorers that have lots of volume. Defensive specialists, etc. Every player plays in various different roles and has different situations that shape their roles and their impact. And just because two players are in identical roles and situations doesn’t mean they’ll put up the same stats because they’ll also have different play styles. So even then coming up with one formula for one type of situation will also have its problems. Although individual obviously cannot do it alone. At the end of the day. Basketball is a sport. So the most important stat in all respects isn’t something based off the box score. It’s Winning! How much does a player affect winning is all you should ever care about.

I know people are already pointing it out, but the story of this Nuggets team can’t be told without mentioning their second round playoff series against the Jazz. They fell behind 3-0, and managed to force a Game 7 before finally losing. Denver won six games that postseason, ALL of them were elimination games. That’s legitimately incredible. Even if they didn’t make it to the conference finals, the 93-94 Nuggets are without a doubt the most resilient team in NBA history.
