07:05 the amount of gas coming out of the receiver/ bcg on the Gary Gordon Carbine is insane!
@aown3 ай бұрын
What do you think the problem is? Is that dangerous?
@DowntownDeuce23 ай бұрын
@@aown No, it is not acutely dangerous. The suppressor adds gas pressure by keeping the gases trapped behind the bullet for longer than without the suppressor. This causes the cycling of the bolt carrier group to speed up, ejecting the casings harder and slamming the bolt carrier against the buffer tube. You can tell because it's throwing the brass forward, to the 1:00 position, instead of rearward at 5:00 position (if you were looking at it from above). If they went to a smaller gas port, to lower the gas pressure, it may not cycle reliably without the suppressor. If you want to be able to use the gun with and without suppressor, you have to make sure there is enough gas to cycle without the suppressor. The problem is when you put the suppressor on, gas pressure goes up. An adjustable gas block would solve the problem, but it is not practical on a military item. On a duty gun it's better to have a gun that is over-gassed with a suppressor, than to be under-gassed without it. It won't hurt anyone, put the increased pressure and cycling speed increases recoil and wear on moving parts.
@DowntownDeuce23 ай бұрын
@@aown Not dangerous, just over-gassed because of the additional pressure trapped by the suppressor. There's a much longer dwell time created by the baffles and additional length of the suppressor, compared to muzzle only being a few inches past the gas port, which allows the pressure to bleed very quickly when the bullet exits the muzzle. It poses no hazard, but the higher cycling speed increases recoil because the bolt carrier runs out of travel space (striking the back of the buffer tube after the buffer spring is compressed totally). It's a more violent extraction/ ejection, causing the cases to be ejected forward instead of rearward. Ideally, it should eject at 3:00 or 4:00 position, instead of 1:00, like in the video. A smaller gas would prevent this, but it would not maintain reliability when the suppressor is not attached. It's better to be over-gassed than under-gassed, especially on a life safety application. The worst that could happen is wearing out parts a little faster.
