Thanks for introducing me to cloner alliance. Great products.

I don't know whether it's due to the way the device recorded the video, how you edited it, or how KZbin encoded it, but the clips are not actually playing at 60 fps. If you go through them frame-by-frame by pressing the , and . keys, every other frame is repeated, indicating they're actually playing at 30 fps.

That would be KZbin. Processing. The clips from the films (true lies and jurassic park) may look funky because they were originally shot on film at 24 frames and obviously the film was already 3;2 pull up to 60i for the vhs and TV box. The shots I shot of the aquarium and the scenery shots were shot at 30p so those will appear that way because that is how the source was shot. The camera used was a 4k sony set to 30p. That's all my cameras to in 4k. In 1080 I shoot in 60p but my 4k is all shot 30p. These were 1080 renders of the original 4k and they would have been pulled to 60p when I rendered the 1080 versions that were used as a source. So when you play a 30p source at 60p you get repeated frames. The only way to get true 60p is to shoot in 60p as the opening shots were.

Thanks for another thorough review. I bought a (non-pocket) ClonerAlliance Box Pro based in-part on your previous review. I use it to record TV programs from cable. It replaced a Hauppauge HD-PVR which I used previously. It's nice to be able to record without a computer, but I've run into a few issues: 1) When using the Playback feature, I find the fast forward to be, well, not very fast. Regardless whether I fast forward at 4X or 8X, it takes about 25 seconds to move forward 1 minute. Also, I can't recall using another device that plays audio while fast forwarding. Rewind seems to operate differently, moving back 9 seconds each time I press the rewind button rather than continuing to rewind until I press the rewind button again. 2) When using the Schedule feature to record programs, I find that recordings gradually start early and end early as the clock seems to run fast and I've had to reset the time regularly to get accurate recordings. It doesn't help that the Schedule feature doesn't allow you to record programs back-to-back: for example, if I schedule a program for 11:00am ro 11:30am, I can't schedule another program to start at 11:30am, I have to start it at 11:31am. 3) I haven't been able to figure out under what circumstances it happens, but when I use the Playback feature, I sometimes don't get sound playback, then I'll go out of the Playback feature and come in again and play the same recording and the sound will now play. Have you run into any of these issues? Thanks for reading!

@@12voltvids I got my HDPVR used at a pawn shop cheap and it didn't come with the remote and didn't work with the Hauppauge scheduling software (WinTV) so my old "PVR" was strictly manual recording anyway. The Box Pro is definitely a step up and it drastically reduces the the nest of cables at the back of my TV. There are workarounds for some of the issues I mentioned. Rather than scheduling say, two half-hour programs to record back-to-back, I just record them as a 1-hour program and split the recording later on my computer. I also use my computer for playback as it allows me to search forward and backward much easier than with the Box Pro's built-in Playback feature. As for the clock running fast, I thought about connecting the Box Pro to the computer via USB hoping it would get time updates via NTP, but the PC capture software seemed less stable than recording with the Box Pro stand-alone and the recording settings are different when you capture from a PC, so you can't splice together recordings without re-encoding. I guess I'm a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to archiving. I'm still archiving standard definition video using a Sony Digital8 camcorder (DV AVI) and then saving to MPEG2 after trimming. I like to be able to run off a DVD as an inexpensive second copy. MPEG4 is great for HD content, which would have enormous file sizes otherwise, but I prefer the "look" of MPEG-2 when I don't need the extra compression.

Well, you would want to go directly to DVD. It makes no sence to up convert to 1080 and then back to 480 for DVD.

Are TV recordings at 16:29 and 17:14 from a 720p60 or 1080i30 channel? It shows 60 fps, which is a good start. 15 Mbps H264 is a healthy bitrate. Not enough 60p content in this video. I don't see analog SD deinterlaced to 60p either. Anyway, $260 for this is too steep. I have a box that I bought for $60 five years ago, which can do 720p60 and 1080p30, it does not have a screen, but has a start/stop button, and my USB reader has a light, which blinks when it is accessed, so I configure it once, then I can start/stop and monitor it. A version of the same box is now on Amazon for $68. I can use it in the field by charging from an external USB battery, altogether less than $100 for the whole bundle. I have a review of it on my channel. But I guess if you offer it as a service, then maybe it makes sense. Does not have a built-in TBC anyway I suppose. I would like to see some skewed or jumpy VHS tapes captured with it.

None of the content was 60p. It was 60i, 30p and 24p 3:2 pull up to 60i it does have a tbc. Use the non screen version for capture vhs and hi8 all the time. Even 2nd gen in ep looks great.

@ConsumerDV 13 күн бұрын
@@12voltvids Thanks. It seems that the deinterlacer is quite decent, although the sample set was not large enough. It has a TBC? It would be nice if you posted some samples digitizing unstable VHS from a VCR that has no built-in TBC.

MBR/GPT is the disk partition scheme for hard drives and USB sticks. USB sticks are usually sold with MBR which dates back to the MSDos era and a single primary partition with a FAT32 or exFAT filesystem on it. GPT is much newer and allows the creation of partitions that are larger than 2 terabytes.

Which one is better component or s video
@rogerwilco5187
@rogerwilco5187 13 күн бұрын
Component.
@12voltvids
@12voltvids 13 күн бұрын
Component handles the green, red and blue components separately on separate cables. Svideo on the other hand transfers the red and blue as an ntsc or pal encoded signal on one wire and the lumanence on the other. So component is superior. Why do you think betacam and betacam sp looks superior svhs or hi8 even though hi8 and svhs has 400 lines of resolution but betacam only has 300 and betacam sp 340? Because betacam is a component tape format with the lumanence recorded on 1 video track and the seperate red and blue components recorded on an adjacent video track. Once you mix the color signal the interference is there. Mix it in with the lumanence and you get the added bonus of high frequency detail in the luminance causing dot craw, and strobing caused by the submariner beating with the lumanence signal.

Hey man i need some help since you know better, can you help me troubleshoot a sony MHC2300 component sistem? When i plug it in the front panel stand-by led turns on simultaneously with the VU meter wich is showing gibberish and the buttons are not responding, i did check and the buttons are fine they make contact and all but things just dont work out, also when i remove the front panel entirely and plug in the sistem like that it does its check up cycle and everything powers up but its in a state where no input id selected and volume is 0, do you know what is wrong? at least give me tips on what to verify, what do you think?

@12voltvids
@12voltvids 13 күн бұрын
What is weird is seeing that Canadian TV series 19-2 in French. The shot the series twice with different actors for the French language except a few actors that are bilingual. Talk about running up your budget. Season 2 episode one has a scene where they respond to a school shooting. There is a scene of a single camera shot that runs about 15 minutes in 1 take. All the actors and extras had to be on their mark for the entire sequence. Victims for example had to remain in place for when the camera circled back. I saw the making of the scene and it was an interesting way to shot the perspective. I bet the steadycam operatior was totally exhausted by the time the shot ended as he got a pretty good workout. Then the director yells CUT. Do it again. Lol. If you get the opportunity to see that series (4 seasons) I highly recommend it. It is quite likely the best cop drama series ever done. Set in Montreal and is shot like a reality type show. So if you didn't know it was scripted and they were actors you would think it was really police work and that it was an episode of cops. Word of warning, there are some pretty graphic and explicit scenes. After all this is Canadian tv, and French so they weren't shy when it comes to nudity.
