I totally agree. I have been using these products for years and the results are stellar. Great video!

I bought these at Costco 24 for $92 it’s the 6 in 1. If you are having a party do you shock a second time before the party or after?
@tomshomefinds Жыл бұрын
I guess that would depend on when you last shocked it. If your chemicals levels are all looking good before the party then I’d suggest waiting until afterwards and using it the day after the party. If your pool is low on chlorine a day or two before the party then feel free to shock it before the big day. I think it recommends “waiting 15 minutes” before using the pool after shocking but I typically wait at least an hour or two. For regular maintenance I shock our pool once a week or so… and then I adjust the schedule by a day or two based on chemical readings… good luck!

I think the package said to sweep/stir up any granules from the bottom of the pool . I have a 27’ pool and can’t reach the middle of the pool and it’s not always warm enough to get in. What happens if I don’t get the granules swept/stirred up?
@tomshomefinds Жыл бұрын
In theory strong chlorine could discolor or even damage a plastic pool liner. This is "fast dissolving" chlorine which comes in very small granules that makes it easier to dissolve. As long as you are running your pool pump when you apply this stuff and as long as you try to sweep up/stir up anything you see resting on the bottom your pool will probably be fine. I haven't had a problem with it not dissolving or sitting on the bottom of the pool. I certainly haven't seen any damage from using it over the past few years.

When i opened my above ground pool this year, it was very green. Went to by some shock and I bought the Shock Blue, it took the green away but now it is blue and cloudy. I checked the water with testing strips and all is close to normal. I have done everything to make the water clear and nothing. Any thoughts about it or suggestions.
@tomshomefinds5 ай бұрын
I'm not a pool expert, but I would recommend getting a specially designed "clarifier" product, usually it's a liquid from what I've seen. It helps to bind particles in the water and kind of clump them together they don't make the water cloudy. You'll need to vacuum and make sure your pool filter is clean as well.

Awesome info! about to poor this as we speak for the first time to shock the pool overnight and jump in tomorrow morning. I also have the Clorox tablets should I just pop those in the morning ? Thanks
@tomshomefinds Жыл бұрын
We use a shock treatment about once a week and we place one chlorine tablet in a floater that just sits in the pool and slowly releases chlorine. It's pretty basic. Our tablets tend to last a week or two, but you can usually adjust the flow of water into them so may last a little shorter or longer depending on a number of different conditions.
@TheCellarDwellerC4 ай бұрын
I use the 4-1 once or twice a week but only about a quarter of pack since my pool is under 4000 gallon and I also have the chlorine tabs float daily and test several times a week. We burn through chlorine due to direct sunlight but I've loved this product so far

If I use the 6 in 1 do I still need to use chlorine tablets?
@tomshomefinds Жыл бұрын
I do still use the chlorine tablets. I have a floating chlorine disburser and I put a new tablet in about once a week.

What else do we need to add besides that ?????
@tomshomefinds4 ай бұрын
This is a good start, but it depends on your pool water. Most pool stores with test your water for free (just bring in a little container of water and they'll recommend what to add.

@tomshomefinds Жыл бұрын
It's possible that the green you see is dead algae and you really just need to clean or replace your filter. I'd also take a water sample to your local pool store and have them run a test. They can often diagnose a problem and give you a solution with just a little jar of pool water.
@ronallen7037 Жыл бұрын
@@tomshomefindsif it’s green it’s not dead algae. Dead algae normally appears as white powder. Vacuum it up

Just use liquid chlorine and pay attention to stabilizer, cheaper and easier by far and no shock is ready to swim in 15 min or it’s not working properly, chlorine to shock needs to be 10ppm or more for a certain amount of time to do it’s job, stop adding so much store bough junk into your pool, liquid chlorine, Muriatic acid, CYA, that’s all you need liquid chlorine costs me 20 bucks for 2 gallons it takes 4-6 ounces to bring my pool up to very high levels, (small pool) but even in a large pool it’s still cheaper than tablets, bagged shock etc, and no added mess to ruin your water just the basics

100% agree. I used to use all these shock products until i started doing some research and discovered liquid chlorine works just as well. I just walk around the outside of my pool in the evening while i pour about 1/3 gal. straight in the water about every 4 days ( 34,000 gal pool) along with about 8oz of baking soda to regulate ph/alkalinity. Always do a water test before AND after the add to ensure proper levels. Best hack I ever learned.

2ND YEAR, I USE A LITTLE STRAIGHT CYA, CHLORINE TABS, AND POWDER SHOCK TO START OUT AFTER NYS WINTER AT UNCOVER/SWIM TIME. GOOD DOSE OF LIQUID CHLORINE IN FALL AND SPRING. TEST WITH STRIPS AND TEST DROPS. WHEN CYA GETS UP A LITTLE THEN TIME TO GO MORE TO LIQUID CHLORINE. AFTER OUR FIRST ALGAE MESS I SUPER SHOCKED AFTER ABOUT 15%+ DRAIN, THEN BROUGHT CHLORINE DOWN WITH FRESH WATER, SUN AND PEROXIDE (WITH MUCH CLEANING...). I just made a CHEAT SHEET for next year as i will not remember all of this. So my test results will dictate what i use in my 8400 gallon pool WITH A FEW EXTRA OPTIONS, Here it is, i hope it helps someone: LIQUID CHLORINE- TO RAISE CHLORINE LEVEL CHLORINE TABS INCREASE CL LEVEL AND ADD CYA Clorox Pool&Spa Shock Plus- CONTAINS CYA, Clorox Pool&Spa Shock XtraBLUE 6/1 CONTAINS COPPER uses a stabilized form of chlorine, increase CYA levels. (I WILL PROBABLY SWITCH TO 4 IN ONE.) dichlor shock- contains cyanuric acid (PROBABLY WILL NEVER USE) Calcium Hypochlorite shock will increase hardness and slightly raise PH, RAISES CHLORINE, DOES NOT CONTAIN CYA HYDROGEN PEROXIDE- will LOWER CHLORINE level and LOWER PH, _______ EFFECT ON ALKALINITY? (35% 1 CUP TO SHOCK 250OGAL /12% 3 CUP TO SHOCK 2500 GAL / 3% 3 QT TO SHOCK 2500 GAL) BAKING SODA- will INCREASE PH, INCREASE ALKALINITY BORAX- WILL INCREASE PH WITHOUT MUCH EFFECT ON ALKALINITY MURIATIC ACID-WILL LOWER PH AND LOWER ALKALINITY Algaecide 60 Plus - Poly-QuatALGEA REMOVER-DOES NOT CONTAIN COPPER, IS RECOMMENDED
