Close Passed! Was Cyclist Looking for It?

Ashley Neal says that when a close pass like the one on this video occurs the fault is with the victim, not the perpetrator. He also suggests that cyclist on this video entrapped the driver into close passing him... he also says that cyclists are actively looking and causing to be close passed, maybe for big bucks or to be famous on KZbin. Basically when a close pass.
This driver was reported for close passing cyclists, we know that if it was up to Ashley Neal he would punish the victim on a 12kg bike risking their lives... instead of the bully on a metal cage who's willing to risk someone's lives to shave a few seconds of his journey.

Hi Silvio, what I see is a van driver executing an overtake of another user overtaking a parked car, I am under the distinct impression that it is never proper tom overtake an overtaker regardless of their mode of transport. On the subject of Ashley's rather sanctimonious attitude to other road users he demonstrate a degree of righteous judgement that he is not entitled to, this is not something he is particularly prone to, most of the time he is only properly observant and reports what he sees. There have been a few times recently when he has chosen to air his own personal prejudice in his commentaries on his channel, in this we is only doing what we all do from time to time and we as the audience have to make our own choice to regard or disregard his comments. The one thing that neither he nor we can properly do is establish the truth of these encounters as he is free to do, we have to take note of the fact that these video records of events are not the true event, usually even people who are actually there at the time are unable to report the exact truth, we all suffer the distortions of our own perceptions. The result of all this for me is that any attempt to certify the rights or wrongs of any event is doomed to failure!, the best we can do is encourage each other to act with due care and consideration, witness of events like this are sufficient to provide opportunity for corrective advice and persuasion to behave better, accusation and censure offer zero benefit. The good driver is alert reading the road conditions, the bad driver is always in a rush thinking the roads were made for him etc, yes they drive with their mobiles on their laps and are are miles away to alertness, they tailgate you, they speed up to the reds, they indicate at if the last moment, they hate to stop at the crossings , yep it will get far worse and I don't understand them.

You know it gets tiresome hearing about the same old trolls spouting the same sh*te yeah I'm talking about Neal- from my observation as a driver, poor parking by the lorry and the volvo borderline for the white VW, the cycle lane ends and a 20mph is shown written on the road. The van driver pushed/bullied his way through to endanger the riders; plural to close passing riders and crossing the centre line onto approaching cars - , all while exceeding the speed limit imposed on that road. If that is not driving without undue care or carless driving I don't know what is. And this is just one section of one road, its not acceptable sorry, its not, why is it we have this anti cyclist stance? Silvio Diego captured a innocent cyclist; a road user put in danger for what? ~Trooper

I seem to recall Ashley said _some_ cyclists _may_ be doing it as entrapment but he also said drivers should be giving the required distance and not assuming secondary means it is OK to pass The driving in this video is awful and I don’t think any position on the bike would’ve discouraged that driver from getting in front

But when you submit evidence you have to include a minute before and a minute after the event. So if the police thought a cyclist with a camera had done anything wrong they would take action against the said cyclist. Fact is Ashley loves conspiracy theories when it comes to defending bad drivers.

@@WestYorkshireCyclingDo you? I don’t with submissions I have made as all they require is the incident itself. I do include footage prior to any incident so they can see a lead up to it. It is entirely possible that no action is taken as it hasn’t reached a prosecution threshold, and although dangerous cyclist _is_ an offence it is rarely prosecuted. It is this “rarely” part that gets many riled up, especially some politicians and certain segments of media that believe the laws need to be changed. The laws don’t need to be changed, they just need to be enforced better for all road users - drivers, cyclists and pedestrians

I take it you've not watched many of Ashley Neales video's then. If you did then you would also see he cycles as well and says thngs as he sees them. He also has channels for nice driving and nice cycling as well. If you are going to mis-quote him the you should at least have the decency to link to his video in quesion. Ashley has said that in his opinion some youtubers will set themselves upin situations where they cause conflict with other road users to get views. However I number of his driving fail videos clearly put the blame on drivers where it is appropriate. Howver he also suggests where appropriate things that the cammer could have done things better to reduce risk to themselves. The van driver is clearly in the wrong here, he's bullying his way past not one but two cyclists, however you don't get off squeaky clean yourself. You're committing yourself to overtake the cyclist in front before the van has finished going past him, I woud have held back a little longer and then given the cyclist a little more room going past.

Ashley is very wrong on putting the blame of a close pass on the victim... it doesn't matter what we do as cyclists ...is up to the driver not to close pass.. is like me saying that if a pedestrian walks onto the road looking at his phone he's to blame for a collision.

Look at the position of the painted cycles on the road ad well! Are these suggesting where an actual cyclist should be positioned? I’m struggling to find them in the Highway Code. They would have contributed to this incident

They are meaningless and have no basis in law. I think that some Councils sometimes add them to newly resurfaced roads to make drivers aware of cyclists. But in truth there is no real purpose for them when they are not used in conjunction with an actual cycle lane/cycle track. In fact, their use often causes confusion.

@@helloweeny A video Ashley Neal posted last week where some, not all, cyclists look for incidents to post on social media and report to the police Some have taken offence at this believing it is aimed at them and that Ashley was referring to all cyclists. To keep referencing it in all videos is either an ego issue or there is a little bit of inner truth that has hurt slightly
