In the last 5-6 years of woken up to the true evils of celebrity in any form, they are all pretty darn bad. But I cannot put Vince in that category. Vince is great. If you want his uplifting side listen to, I Still Believe in You, and Look at Us. He has many great songs, such as Go Rest High on that Mountain, Pocket Full of Gold, The Heart won't Lie, Whenever You Come around, Don't Let Our Love Start Slippin Away, and on and on the list goes. Great songwriter, singer and instrumentalist.

OMG! We were so so lucky to live through the best music EVER! I'm workin on 60 and had Journey, REO, Zepplin, Sammy Hagar, Aerosmith, etc for rock....then we hit the late 80's early 90's and got Vince Gill, who to me is the country version of Steve Perry! Garth, Travis Tritt, Alan Jackson, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride!! Vince has such an amazing voice! My kids, now in their 30's, laugh about how it was NOT Christmas season until Mamma popped in the Vince Gill Christmas CD! LOL The woman in the video is just paying tribute to Patty Loveless! She and Vince had magic with their voices together! Like George and Tammy, Conway and Loretta! Vince's first marriage was with another artist. You HAVE to hear "Go Rest High on that Mountain" with Vince, Patty and Ricky Skaggs. Played that song at my husband's service. The most beautiful end of life song IMO!

Patty Loveless is the feature artist. She sings in the eastern Kentucky Appalachia style of singing. Imagine hearing that beautiful sound in church every Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday. Maybe why we "church" a lot! Edit: May I suggest, Patty Loveless: "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" You won't regret it. That song captures the enduring struggle of the hard working but poor folk of our area of this great nation.

Vince started out in Southern Rock/folk music with Pure Prairie League! Famous song "Amy" was very popular back then. I think this song was his first #1 hit when he transitioned to country! Voice of an Angel!!!

If you want to hear some REALLY early Vince, check out his singing with the bluegrass group "Here Today" along with musicians David Grisman, Emory Gordy Jr., Herb Pedersen, and Jim Buchanan in 1983, after his time with Pure Prairie League. His version of "Making Plans" (available here on YT) is amazing. Worth a listen!

Vince has an angelic voice. A true classic tenor country singer. I love how it brought you to tears. Genuine reaction. His songs will open the flood gates... and also the gates to heaven. Rumor has it that he and Amy Grant, his current wife, both cheated on their husband and wife with each other. Don't know about the validity of that... but it's what is thought to be true. Anyway, great review of a truly timeless song.

This was Vince's solo break out hit. He was married to Janis Oliver (of 'The Sweethearts of The Rodeo" sister duo) at the time of this release (check out ""Midnight Girl In A Sunset Town" - it's fantastic!), and they had one child together. If you watch another of Vince's videos: "Look At Us" - Janis appeared in that video. They divorced in 1997 and Vince married singer Amy Grant in 2000. Vince had spectacular success with this hit, and went on to many others as well. He wrote or co-wrote most of his songs and his guitar playing is legendary as well. Branch out beyond "Go Rest High On That Mountain" -- a great song, but so many reactors have done it that his others songs are overlooked. All of Vince's playlist are worth listening to. He's a tremendous talent.

Had a buddy of mine, Chris. Partied with him on a Saturday. We went to see a Germany ice hockey game, hung out at the local pub, and then went to the Schwimmbad in downtown Heidelberg, Germany. He told his wife earlier that day, "Gonna have a day with the boys! Told his kids, I love you and I'll see you when I get home." Little did he or we know the tragedy that was about to occur. Come Monday morning. I get called over to his house by his NCO, Mike. His voice is shaking, "Hey man, tell your NCOIC you need to break out and get over here!" "Roger that." I made it happen. When I walked through the door. "Mike, Chris?", "J, I'm in the dining room, man.", Mike replied softly. I didn't hear Chris reply. I walked down the hall, turned to the right and... I bawled my eyes out when I found him hanging from the chandelier in the dining room. Mike and I cut him down, notified the MPs, and waited. They showed up, took our statements, and then we left the scene. Crying and just sitting on the steps of his housing, and then it hit us...and we were very angry. At his memorial service, the church was full, out the door. That's how many people knew Chris. He was a great soldier, well-respected, and a great father. I had to do his casualty report. I assigned Mike as the CAO to Chris' family, and he escorted Chris' body home. This is what happened. And this song reminds me of that. Chris came home to an empty house. His wife took his kids and the dog and bailed back to the states that Saturday. (I was stationed in Germany at the time.) She ended up putting all of his belongings in front of the door. She put their belongings in their storage in the basement of their government housing. You never know what's going on in the head of friend in a marriage that looks like roses on the outside but is thorns behind closed doors. Let this song be a lesson to you all. No woman or man's life is worth dying over. I wish I could have saved my Brother in Arms and I see him during my night terrors. If you have a friend in need, be there for them. #MakeTheCallSaveALife.

Beautiful lady, great singer with a solid solo career and when we lived in Nashville, was on everyone's list as a songwriter, collaborator and session musician.
