"Large Father" Garlits was a favorite of mine, too. When I was 8 years old, I got a copy of his 1984 autobiography, "Close Calls," which I still have to this day. I've read that book cover-to-cover numerous times over the years. As for NASCAR, my maternal granda and I used to watch the races on TV at his house, and I was a fan of Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt Sr, Bill Elliot, Lake Speed and Dick Trickle.

I was into Petty mostly because of the Plymouths and I liked the STP logo. Then his son started racing and I was like… eh. My dad liked Dale Sr because of the whole intimidator marketing.

@charlestonpinballarcade , loved that black Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe (the 80s Monte with the big back window). If I ever get one, I'll be tempted to paint a "3" on it.

Nice Goat. My dad had a '65 Caprice, later a '70 Chevelle, back in the late 70s. I was a baby when he had the Chevelle, so I don't remember it. He raced on Front St. in Philly and at Atco Dragway (RIP).

Very cool! I never saw a race at Atco, but knew about it. One of the guys my dad grew up with opened “Ask Frank First” Chevy Speed Shop in South River.

I've been to Atco a couple of times in my life. Went once with my brother-in-law, sister, brother and sister-in-law (who was pregnant with my now 16 year old nephew) to a bracket race night. Another time, my brother and I went to Honda Day. He had an EK Civic, and I helped him swap a B20 motor in it.

Atco raceway was similar to Kiddie City! I knew it was there, but never got to experience it! 😂 If you can swap that engine, then you can definitely handle that visible engine model at the hobby shop! 😂
