CLOSED! OLD Victorian Railway Stations - Trawalla I Lal Lal I Gordon - Australian Trains

Welcome to Schony747 trains on Wednesday. Today Schony747 features three railway stations that still see trains pass on a regular basis but haven't seen passenger trains stop for many years.
There are stations such as Trawalla, Lal Lal and Gordon all around Victoria which have suffered similar fates. Some stations are still in good condition while others are falling into disrepair.

Some of the infrastructure is still in really good shape. Wycheproof and Sea Lake are other good examples.

The Geelong - Ballarat line was double from Bannockburn to Ballarat before being singled

Great clip Brenden, no shortage of closed/derelict stations in NSW either, you should come up and document them on video. Poor old Trawalla would fail the spirit level test! Comments at 3.42m point don't make sense re 1892 then back 1834 segment. Maybe my "Old Timers" disease catching up with me, just doesn't make sense. Good work, some more please...

My Gran used to pick up things from Trawalla station occasionally and my great uncle was station master at Lal Lal until it closed down.

I believe a few of the old bluestone stations along the Geelong - Ballarat line have been renovated/converted into private residences... I like trains, but I wouldn't want my house literally on top of a freight line haha

I was wondering about something. If you were able to live in one of these old stations where the trains still run express past, would it be possible to ring up vline and ask them to stop the train at your place if you wanted to get on. (Or even get off at your station)

I'm guessing the people that ordered to close down those stations never had a toy train in their childhood. The one I feel the most sorry for is Gordon (not to be confused with Sydney's North Shore line station). I feel like Gordon should be reopened, especially with so many Melbourne to Ballarat V/Locities using that line and could get more people to live there. The Melbourne to Ballarat V/Line service is ridiculous; with the V/Line trains stopping at Ardeer, Deer Park, Caroline Springs, Rockbank and Cobblebank when really they should be Melbourne Metro stations whereas Gordon is a REAL V/Line railway station that's needs more attention. As for Lal Lal, maybe in the future of a return of the Geelong to Bendigo via Ballarat V/Line service would be nice. Not to sure if Trawalla would be reopened in the future; but with 3 stations north of Bendigo reopened recently, could the same thing happen to Trawalla?? or is there too much discrimination??

This was all a part of the Lonie report from the 1980s where 35 stations were closed on the one day. Geelong to Bendigo via Ballarat will never happen now the cross country line is closed.

Yes in the Late 1800's and Early 1900's the State Governments were Very Aspirational. They Built Towns and Infrastructure and Automatically Expected Success. Of course for Many Locations Success Never Arrived or Did Not Last Very Long. To this Very Day Both the States and Federal Governments have Failed to Adapt to the Regional Realities and this in turn has Further Delayed Success and Continued Waste.

yes, a lot of those old stations had freight and loading yards, as a kid was a good cheap way to fill in a day, watching shunting, and loading and unloading of trucks with all sorts of goods.

The removal of double to single track is very shortsighted especially now with the resurgence of Train movements. . I grew up in the Latrobe Valley and even today the double track to Traralgon is incomplete albeit to be sorted shortly by completion. I could never understand why the removal of overhead wiring back to Pakenham took place leaving future possibility of Electric Trains to Warragul/ Traralgon with Suburban Trains. { No Toilets}

Of course. Look at the Bendigo line. Double track reduced to a single track with passing loops. No sense in my mind and not sure the reason behind the decision.

Can somebody please explain why there's no regional train to Horsham? Its larger than Ararat yet no train service........ What they should also do is initiate a regional train service to Mount Gambier via Hamilton and Dartmoor. And of course Mildura and Leongatha.

Leongatha will never happen again after the local shire decided to convert the line to a rail trail. As for the rest I suppose it's all political. I don't even see the opposition proposing a service so there's obviously no votes in it for either party.

@@Schony747 Votes? Political? Doesn't anybody in these towns/cities hold meetings to gauge the level of interest in a train service? Mildura, Mornington, Healesville, Whittlesea, Horsham, Mansfield...........all would be well patronised. And why would the shire at Leongatha close themselves off forever from rail? Pretty stupid to me. People live all along the south gippsland line, surely they should have been consulted.

It wasn't large in the first place but was an important crossing loop between Ballarat and Ararat.

Yep like all stations along the Geelong line such as Meredith and Lal Lal. Some have been repurposed for other uses.

@Neil Forbes in Victoria there’s several rail tours through out the year tour starts at 6am ends at 6pm I been told it’s worth a trip especially for people doing videos
