Why are there so many comments claiming "Justice was served"? Justice is not served when a first degree murderer walks away with a manslaughter charge. Doug Benefield apologized for every wrong move he made, while Ashley made many more wrong moves and has no regret, no remorse, takes no responsibility. This makes her a thousand times more dangerous. She deserves life in prison.

I think they got hung up on the depraved mind, which is rather subjective. That being said, I agree it was planned and would’ve found her guilty of the top charge. The prosecution has a very large gap between behaviors of the past and the actual day of the incident. She acknowledges that the husband is not a good person and his behavior was not acceptable. She then says Ashley's was just as bad. Therefore making both sides DYSFUNCTIONAL and culpable and responsible for what happened. . So NOTHING leading up to the shooting is applicable to the day of the shooting. What matters is the day of the shooting. The prosecution MUST PROOVE beyond all reasonable doubt and they FAILED TO DO THIS!!! It doesnt matter what everyone FEELS or senses or what experiences you may have related to this case. You can ONLY look at the EVIDENCE and unfortunately guilty or not there just is NOT enough evidance to PROVE beyond all reasonable doubt that it was not self defense. Ashley is INNOCENT until PROVEN GUILTY beyond all reasonable doubt by the DA and in this case the DA presented a very WEAK CASE that has allot of HOLES and GAPS that we will never be able to fill. Florida has the STAND YOUR GROUND LAW, and this gives the jury the ability to allow Ashley the benefit of the doubt becuase NONE OF THE EVIDANCE is strong enough to PROOVE guilt. I predict NOT GUILTY or a HUNG JURY!!!

Actually, she looks like a “beaten down,” abused woman. Not all abuse starts out or escalates to PHYSICAL ABUSE. Mental/emotional abuse and coercive control are JUST AS TRAUMATIC AND DAMAGING to the psyche as physical abuse is to the body AND mind. And frequently mental/emotional abuse DOES escalate to physical abuse, which appears to be what happened in this case. It is VERY CLEAR to anyone who has experienced the cycle of DA/DV or to anyone familiar with the cyclical nature and TRAUMATIC EFFECTS of DV, that this woman is/was a victim of DV. Those 2 useless prosecutors should be ashamed of themselves, and they should RESIGN for prosecuting/persecuting an INNOCENT VICTIM OF DV!!

If she gets off the state is to blame They needed to focus on the fact that Dougs body was cold when ems got to him When she ran over to that old mans house she was pretending to be in fear that he was chasing her. She didn't keep banging on the door to get in at his house. She calmly sat down on that step at his house and let that man go from the front door to the back door looking for her. They had key points here and they missed it and messed up.

She's not guilty of second degree murder she's guilty of FIRST degree murder. This was obviously planned. The only thing I don't get is why did she want a baby with this guy then try so hard to keep him from her? That is strange. Usually gold diggers like her try to stay in the man's life to keep getting child support and whatever they can out of the guy. So that part is strange and I think she had some kind of weird ass motive for that too.
