Exactly , I've lost count on how many cases I've watched where one parent murders the other and then claim , they were doing it because they didn't want to share custody , but that's not why they kill them , it's anger , revenge , hate and they aren't thinking about their children at all , it's selfishness , greed , no thought for the children at all who lose both parents and their lives destroyed , how is that what was best for your child smh I can maybe understand if one parent is abusive and treated the children horrible but killing the other parent only takes u away and the children lose , always but this case wasn't about abuse , it was about greed and a selfish horrible woman that only ever really loved herself , evil woman that ruined those two girls lives.

As a DV survivor who really was nearly unalived by my ex partner, it's incredibly infuriating to watch someone testifying a fake testimony about trying to flee their abusive partner. I did try to flee. His eyes did turn black and he told me he was going to effing kill me. I am not going to go into extreme detail because I don't want to trigger anyone, but he did nearly succeed that day and the vision in my right eye still isn't the same. These false allegations of domestic violence don't only harm the accused, it also harms the people that have survived these monsters and it harms the memory of those we have lost. To anyone that has survived an abusive partner, I love you. I see you. You are not alone. I pray that his youngest daughter gets to know his family. It's incredibly sad and maddening to know that her mother is probably poisoning her against Doug and her sister. My heart goes out to them.

Doug was an abuser. Not all DV abuse or victims look or sound the same. I’m a DV survivor too, from two very different relationships. (After the first physically abusive relationship, I really believed I had made the healthy choice the 2nd time around). The 2nd relationship never crossed the line into “physical abuse”, although it came very close as time went on. This DV relationship went on (& off) for 15 years, as it was far more difficult for me to recognize, address, and permanently leave than the first. The long-term consequences have been far more difficult for me to overcome than the relationship that involved clear-cut physical violence. The emotional & mental violence day-in & day-out was like boxing w/an abusive ghost who everyone outside our relationship thought, and still thinks, is a fantastic catch. I believe Ashley and am disgusted by Court TV’s coverage of this case. Having Doug’s former attorney, who LIED on the stand, as a guest, is as comical as her testimony. And the behavior of the two prosecutors was the most repulsive & reprehensible I’ve ever seen. There are MANY DV survivors who believe and support Ashley, who recognize how the system continues to fail women like her, who are victims of abusers like Doug, while simultaneously placing the abuser on a pedestal. This case underscores the failure of the system, society and Court TV to recognize another, less commonly portrayed aspect of DV. This is why women don’t report.

Ashley's mother is 80% sure to be a an accessory to the crime. They set up a regular patter off taking this girl Emerson out ... if that was thoroughly investigated I'm sure it has serious holes in it. If Ashley was worried about issues with ex husband would not the mother be saying - "let's pack up and get out of here. " ? The mother's involvement stinks to me. It's the last person who should have custody of the child. TE.FIdler.

@@chrisjohnson194 They did not care because they assumed that by using the D violence Motif then Ashley would get away with it. THere is no more reason that Ashley's mother should get custody than Doug's mother . In fact , given the suspicion about her involvement there are VERY Good reasons why she should have no custody and only partial grand parent rights. I hope that Ashley has no money left and can't fight any ruling against her on this matter - if it happens. NO visible injuries on Ash except possibly self inflicted ones, 2 Terrible presentation on the stand, 3 Doug not shot in front of torso as in a self defense wound on AB's part , 4 Doug had no weapon, 5 Multiple loaded semi automatics in the house... 6 .The risk that all Ashley's lies would come out at the headshrinker meeting at the end of the week, 7. Doug's attempts to get shared parenting and AB's rebuttal of that, I could have convicted her within one week of the crime. I hope she pulls close to thirty years inside . Doug's parents should sue her in civil court too... they could justify that by saying hey need money for rearing and college tuition of the child.

@F_Tim1961 I totally agree! Ashley's mother Alicia is broke. That is why they are pushing the GFM. Also, her appeal will be denied. She should have gotten 2nd degree murder. This was not manslaughter, it was murder. It was so strange she made sure she planted the guns so she knew exactly where they were and how to get Doug into the room. She planned it all. Jury did at least find her guilty at least. Ashley Benefield USED Doug for money to open her ballet studio and to have a baby. She never loved him imo, ever. It came full circle back to her. She never wanted Doug to be around Emerson, so now her punishment for her lies is, she doesn't get to be with her daughter either. Manslaughter charges may get visitation and phone calls from prison. Don't know, but think she should be denied access to her and DOUG's daughter as well!! Her reaction to the verdict shows no emotion or reaction whatsoever. She is a cold hearted, self-centered, and an evil woman that will do whatever it takes to get her way. I hope Doug gets his good name back And everyone realizes that Ashley AND her mother lied to Eva, 15, about Doug poisoning AB when she was pregnant to hurt her and the baby is absurd! She slandered his name and Now we know the truth Emerson should not be in the custody of her mother and CPS needs to step in and redirect the best interest of the child. A guardian ad li dem should be appointed. Eva and Emerson are sisters and she should be with a loving family like Doug and Eva and half brothers. Finally I do hope CPS steps in and takes custody away for the grandmother for her outright abuse encouraging Doug's 6 year old to protest in the name of domestic violence and "Keeping her mommy free" 🖐️ with purple adult, not child's, handprints on the message. It's mental abuse imo. Judge Please make Alicia Buyers do a psychological and mental evaluation to see if she's even fit to have full custody of Emerson. His daughter, brother, cousin, and attorney are solid stand-up people. I will say a prayer for you guys, and I hope you get through this tragedy. Rip Doug.

To me when the cousin comes out (on the previous interview) and said that on Ashley's laptop she investigated him before they both even met, he didn't even knew who she was. I think she saw him on the list of wealthy donors for trump and used him her ballet school went down and she got her daughter and had no use for him He used up all his money and resources . I wonder if the guy she was dating was also wealthy. Am I mistaken but did Ashley roll her eyes when they put the cuffs on. But no tears no emotions Even even ifn his legs went up the bullet would have gone in differently. Not straight.

I would love to know her last words to her attorney as she was cuffed & led out of the court room.

@rachaellynn4147 0 seconds ago Eve and social media spread lies about her. She was doomed before the trial started. Evil Eve, I call her! A jury that didn’t understand the dynamics of domestic violence, and just how terrifying Doug was. My God, he BEAT HIS FIRST WIFE UNTIL SHE WAS UNCONSCIOUS, HE PUNCHED A DOG IN THE FACE AND KNOCKED HIM OUT, Hit Ashley in the head, stalked her, sent her vehement texts…. SHE HAD EVERY REASON TO BE TERRIFIED, and the shooting was JUSTIFIED. Anyone who says anything different, is ignorant of the true meaning of DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. Evil Eve fueled this madness about Ashley, by unfairly influencing the public disparaging Ashley’s character. Tommy Benefield callin him innocent. They both have taken us back centuries to an era of witch hunts…. That’s exactly what this was! Not a fair trial!

When she was standing demonstrating, she pointed the gun at the ground, so he was on the ground when she shot him. However, when asked if she was still shooting when he fell, she said she did not remember, but again when she demonstrated the shot it was a shot to the ground...

And you think even if she would’ve reached for her phone that would’ve protected her because most abusers rip the phone out of your hand and smashed it so how was that any protection for her? If what was going on as she stated?

Hey uncle Tommy, you truly are a simpleton because there’s plenty of awesome women that have been victims of DV that have not said anything to our parents or sisters or even friends about it so that tells me right there you know nothing about domestic violence

She said he said to her your fing done but she said she said that to him just before that, she said to him I'm done, so he's probably followed her into the room and said you're done? I believe she set the whole thing up she wanted him out of the way by any means

Anyone who punches a dog in the face or shoots a gun in the house is very dangerous not to mention the stalking and tracking her car... If I were her I would want to get myself and baby away from him as well. The system let her down

I'm honestly surprised that there are so many people in the comments saying the things that they are. I don't know if I believe that she was acting in self-defense but I don't think that she did this and planned it out. I definitely think that she was abused by him. He sounds like he was a messed up individual and a lot of abusers hide their actions to their own close family members. I had experience with that. Absolutely no one knew

@@laurenhb2500 the comments are mostly visceral hate towards Ashley, but there was no evidence presented that she planned this. I believe the commenters are actually triggered by jealousy- and I'm not being sarcastic. She put herself in prison by being a dancer and taking a bikini photo, as beautiful young woman cause so much envy that all the villagers with their pitchforks cant think correctly. And I absolutely agree with you a thousand percent- it seems a lot of commenters haven't experienced an abuser or a toxic relationship whatsoever, and that is a good thing...but I guess they just cannot understand. Another point about Doug was that he showed absolutely no thought for his first daughter purposely excluding her from his wedding and introducing Ashley after they were already married... like what a hurtful and mean thing to do
@ravenrozeb37906 ай бұрын
@@August-tu1yb I am the victim of psychological, mental and physical abuse decades ago thankfully. This young lady had choices and she chose to end a life needlessly. Why did she enlist his help if she was SO SCARED of him during the moving process? Not everyone is jealous of an attractive white woman with money.... Makes her no smarter or better or capable than anyone else.....Disproportionately though, attractive women do skate on most egregious acts... ( I suppose it's natures gift to some and it's curse to others). You diminish the intelligence of the commenters here, however to suggest that is their bias. She appears to be an entitled phony. If nothing else, then she has the emotional immaturity of a high schooler; not thinking through the consequences of impulsive action that could land her in jail and away from her young child. Good riddance.
