Honestly, I feel more sorry for the workers who are now unemployed due to what's essentially mismanagement. Yes, people are saying it all over the comments, but it's absolutely true: why in the world did you go on a month-long trip just after opening up a restaurant? Why did you focus on your KZbin career/content when you had a restaurant to run? Why didn't you take Kevin's visa situation into account? Why didn't you hire someone to take your place while you were away? These are things that should've been addressed at the very beginning or not happened at all! Hospitality is brutal, and as an inspector who inspected many, _many_ restaurants, lack of planning can be the final nail to your business's coffin.

"In order to have a life that is sustainable and balanced you can't be just working all the time." The fact that she thinks operating a new restaurant wouldn't require that kind of sacrifice is mind blowing to me. The difference between wanting to be a restaurateur and being one is commitment and grind. I highly doubt she'll ever considering opening a restaurant in the future now that she realizes the amount of grind and sweat that is involved. You need to be borderline obsessive when it comes to the F&B industry. It's insanely difficult to succeed and equally easy to lose all your gains with a slight misstep.

They closed because Tina cried and threw a hissy fit when she had to buy alcohol twice a week for the restaurant or polish silverware for an hour because it isn’t fun and glamorous. The restaurant was constantly booked out due to 3 million subscribers you literally can’t wish for a better first year than that. I think she simply realised she actually had to work for a normal income and that that is for peasants lol.
@mattymattffs9 ай бұрын
Real reason why tina and kevin closed mija. Tina and Kevin were not on top of certain business aspects like making sure everyone had proper contracts, youtube prioritizing the restaurant so certain things were made in the mija for her videos and Kevin leaving to be her camera man, and being very immature leaders. They made a lot of promises to the workers about expanding the business, paying for classes about Korean alcohol, and even saying they would provide visas for some of the non-native workers. Some quit because they weren't being provided contracts so tina and kevin blamed that on the manager. After hearing that the workers were unhappy, Kevin felt like he was not appreciated enough and that the workers were ungrateful. This was during the time that he had to be in Denmark to wait for his Korean visa, leaving the restaurant to the workers to take care of it while Tina stayed with him. Again, this was something that they left to the very last minute and planned very poorly, leaving it to the workers to clean up the mess. Later on Tina got an offer by a company to make content for them in LA. She then tried to sell Mija off to one of the workers even while still being in a lawsuit with the landlord, saying that if that worker didn't accept that she would close the restaurant. She then posted an instagram story about her leaving the country before she had told the rest of the workers the news. The workers saw the story which the one worker who had been offered mija felt obligated to tell the team the situation. All the workers felt betrayed by Tina and Kevin. Kevin said that he could not run a restaurant while helping tina internationally when the team always felt sad because of him. Later on the majority of the staff left, leaving only three workers that stayed until the last day.

She found a really kind and driven man, who she is putting all her dreams on and expecting him to just facilitate her dreams while she gets to reap the benefits without realizing all the intense hard work and sacrifice it takes. My friends parents got divorced because of something similar. His dad helped his mom start a steel business, because that’s what she said she wanted to do, but then she ended up needing an accountant, someone to help with taxes, someone to help with filing reports, someone to help with writing proposals, and then when the business took off she didn’t wanna hire a manager, just kept leaning on him, mind you his dad is also CFO at the company he works at…. They ended up getting divorced in a really nasty divorce, because his dad just wanted his life back and the mom didn’t wanna sign the papers. I’m glad they closed the restaurant before it ended their relationship. Kevin needs to set boundaries of what he wants to do and not get subsumed in Tina’s life and actualizing her dreams while she plays manic pixie dream girl. And Tina needs to professionalize her systems and processes of how she runs things, to pay someone to do these things vs making your partner do them for free. But yo, as I write this, I realize, she’s ONLY 25, I think it’s great she’s learning these things early on, and has a partner who can clearly communicate that “Hey, this is a bit too much for us”….

I understand youre doing content for your channel, it’s work but you’ve already been making content around your restaurant. Leaving your restaurant without leadership from you as a co-owner, playing with people’s livelihoods. ALSO they are not the only ones taking a risk in the restaurant, the workers, the cooking staff all take the risk in working there. And no, dont give excuses about having to work all the time. You could’ve scaled the business down in the first place instead of going all out in making a restaurant then complaining about how hard the work is. It’s disappointing because it’s clear you never learn from your mistakes and the past criticism others had for you. You still frame yourself as a victim and hide behind your privilege.

She has posted lot of things about her parents that weren’t kind and the superciliousness and entitled attitude bothers me. She literally has a name for and calls her fans by a nickname that feels like you have to have an ego about it. I didn’t know about the legal issues and things she had to overcome only to give up after a full reservation every night. Then, only a few months into the business she leaves Kevin and is jetting around the world eating at different restaurants. Why? Why wasn’t she there? I read reviews on her website, some that were since deleted about how they met Kevin, but Tina was never there. Regardless if you seat 30 people or 100, in a new restaurant, the manager should be present and pouring herself into the business. Maybe less money randomly travelling and more reinvested back into the business as well as time would have seen it succeed. Or making sure the head chef has a visa secured already? So many red flags. Where does this young thing get *so* much money? And her parents shelled out to have her attend the finest school in the USA and she has nothing but negative things to share online about them. Idk how curated it is but it seems like they both have baggage that they are now starting to unload. Don’t be so quick to judge people’s personal relationships. All this is true but I don't think the blame should be placed entirely on her. Yes, it's all "rich girl behaviour" but that's not something rich kids choose to do. Nobody makes a conscious decision to do things out of ignorance. Rich kids are a product of their upbringing. The parents decided to provide an ungodly amount of financial support, sending her to the best college, giving her the money to start her own restaurant, allowing her to live in her luxurious apartment. Having an incredibly easy protected upbringing is something I honestly wouldn't wish on anyone. The complete lack of stress and pressure means you don't grow as an individual. The parents enable her by letting her discuss their private family affairs with the whole world. I grew up with a single mother who was abusive and had to save like my life depended on it to get by. It taught me a lot about boundary setting, mental health, empathy, compassion, dealing with people, learning to develop mental grit and fending for myself and making meaning out of my life. @nathanp200710 ай бұрын
Same and I think many commented the same thing when she was starting. Even with nearly guaranteed full bookings weeks if not months in advance (due to the fanbase), it doesn't change how much WORK it is and therefore how time consuming it is. You can't part time running and head-chef'ing a restaurant and you definitely can't do it while working on another career (KZbin). I imagine they wouldn't say they'd do anything different, unless she's financially really in a hole due to how much she invested in the building, but I wonder how they would respond if they were asked if they'd make the same choice or utilize a Pop-up restaurant business model to put out their fine dining Korean food and get in-person interaction with Dooby fans. That way they could scratch those itches but not overly invest into a brick & mortar restaurant location and be at it for months before they realized it was just too much to handle. Doesn't a Pop up Mija Seoul seem like the perfect Dooby version of a fan-sign? Instead of a meet & greet fan-sign event it's a restaurant pop-up where fans can meet her, get a picture and buy Tina and Kevin's food. Win-win for Tina, Kevin, the fans, and Tina's accountant seeing the low overhead and no long term investment required.

@@nathanp2007 I mean, time consumed is not a problem if the business is finantially on a good spot, you will hire people to delegate responsabilities wether you like it or not, that's key to have a sustainable business. They're clearly closing due the business not being profitable, hiring more people in their case wouldn't have made much of a difference since their location and business model as a whole is heavily limiting their expansion. Y’all need to be effin for real also. Kevin is what, 30? And he had the opportunity at 30 to run his own fine dining restaurant courtesy of meeting a young Korean girl who had the money to help him finance it. In Denmark, at his age he would still be a line chef in a restaurant, he would NEVER have been able to finance his own restaurant let alone compete with the established Michelin starred restaurants there, let alone have the stable stream client base that comes with Tina’’s popularity. People weren’t going to mija Seoul because they fell in love with Kevin, but because they fell in love with Tina, and so by extension Kevin. He also is getting a good deal from this, it’s not just Tina who found a guy to help her actualize her dreams but so did he. Did he end up doing most of the manual work, yes, and that’s unfortunate. But he didn’t even have the opportunity to run his own restaurant before, so let’s be fr, he should also be grateful for Tina. She’s also helped him financially a LOT, and helped him have something to do that he could call his own for the last year. They just need to figure out a balance so they don’t get resentful of each other. But come on, they both getting something out of this relationship, in that way they aren’t using each other but are USEFUL to each other. After all the legal drama and renovations you had to go through, it just doesn’t make any sense to give up that easily. Sounds like you need to hire an assistant / cameraman because you need the help and Mija needed somebody more experienced to run the back of the house if things were overwhelming. Closing the restaurant you have just opened sounds like a rash decision, especially if you said you have been consistently fully booked since day 1. Kevin looks like the more heartbroken one between the two of you and it’ll be disappointing if he will just transition to becoming a cameraman for your vlogs, given he needs a job for his visa. This is so harsh. Stick it through would have meant Kevin running himself to the ground? They haven’t said they won’t do another restaurant, they have just said that until they CAN figure out how to hire people, get the pricing right etc, they will close. It’s called strategy. They didn’t go into this with one, and now they realize they need one. It’s harder to fix a broken system, than just start a system that isn’t broken. Consider this restaurant their a/b testing phase in engineering, their relationship, and their workload balance. They’ll get it right. They have the luxury of being able to CLOSE a restaurant without it bankrupting them or their life going into financial ruin, they did the right thing. They can revisit this later. It’s a restaurant it’s not like they decided to stop operating on someone mid surgery. It’s not a life and death decision.

I'm a bit shocked to hear the restaurant is closing so early after opening, yet not surprised. As I watched the progression of your dream to open Mija Seoul and it finally coming to fruition, I could clearly see a lot of red flags with the challenges and obstacles you were facing. First, and foremost, was that you and Kevin just started dating and now were thrust into this new business venture together where both of you had little to no experience running and opening a restaurant. Then I saw how you guys were tirelessly working together non-stop 24/7 through day and night to build out the restaurant. That alone would take its toll on even the most seasoned and and well-established relationships. Not to mention all the struggles you had with the landlord! When the doors were finally opened, I remember thinking "Wow! They actually did it! Maybe this will actually work!" But then as I watched videos of the restaurant, I was surprised and very disappointed that it appeared Tina wasn't as involved in the daily preparation and cooking of the food and Mija Seoul did not "showcase" the Dooby we have come to love in preparing meals nor the dishes she prepared on her YT Channel. Kevin was the focal point and the Chef cooking and preparing the food and Dooby was the sidekick helping him out???? I even commented on one of the videos about it because my assumption was that Mija Seoul would be an extension of what Dooby does on her channel, but that was not the case. My question is what percent of the recipes and dishes served at Mija Seoul were either ones Tina had done on YT or were her own creation? My guess is very little, if any. No offense to Kevin, but people weren't coming to Mija Seoul to see Kevin. They were coming because of the exceptionally talented Dooby with her charming, funny and witty personality on her YT channel! As a fan and admirer of Doobydobap, what I expected from Mija Seoul was to see videos of Dooby in the kitchen showcasing recipes she loves and sharing them with customers at the restaurant and Kevin being the sidekick supporting and helping Dooby out. That right there was your "recipe" to success! So, at that point, I can see how this whole restaurant thing just ran away from you and took on an exhausting life of its own. Most assuredly it became a wedge between Tina and Kevin. As I watched this video, I paid close attention to both of your facial expressions and reactions as each of you spoke. Even though you were saying one thing, your expressions were telling me something very different! I also remember seeing the video where Dooby left and took a trip to the US by herself after the restaurant was just opened for a few months! I immediately thought things can't be going good if she is taking a break on her own at this early stage of the restaurant opening as well as your relationship with Kevin. Wasn't a good sign! You guys just moved way too fast! I am 59 years old and in my younger years, I was much like Tina. I would get an idea and with no hesitation jump right into it headstrong at warp speed. I wanted it to happen immediately and most often would get it! But sure enough, I'd accomplish the task or goal and then quickly become bored and want to move on to something else. I have since learned to slow things down and take time to focus on what I really love and spend more time enjoying the now and not what lies ahead and in front of me. The important thing is that you both have learned some really good lessons and, if taken to heart, there is nothing but better days ahead. My concern is that what happens most often in relationships that go through something like this is that the damage has already been done and it's hard to move on from it. If you both are truly meant to be together, you will weather this storm and only grow stronger as a couple. The most critical factor in whether you and Kevin can survive this is one of two things: 1) If Kevin is going to work alongside Tina in her career, he needs to take a back seat to her and compliment her already very successful career. Most men's egos get in the way and they want to be the one in control, be the provider, the leader and the one that's more successful, so not sure if he is humble enough and is OK playing second fiddle; 2) If he is not able to do this, then it can still work, but he is going to have to have his own career path working separately as a Chef and not with Dooby. IMO, the biggest lesson learned is try not to do too much. Stick to your passion, what you love, and what is successful. Once you get in that lane, stay in it! You are really awesome Dooby and the funniest, most charming, most creative and coolest content creator on YT! I wish you all the best!

You wish you could interject that insight and people listen and take what you say at heart, but unfortunately, we always need to go though it and make the mistakes to learn from them. As I think about this more, I am curious to know how Kevin and Tina met and did he know she was Doobydobap the successful YT content creator when he met her? I am also curious whether it was his idea to open the restaurant or hers? He seems like a very nice guy and I don't think he intentionally used her as a means to start his own restaurant, but if he did know about her success as Dooby and was the one that initiated opening Mija Seoul together, then I can't help wonder about his true intentions. Again, I don't think he did it intentionally, but knowing his own passion for being a Chef, he may have sub-consciously pushed her into this endeavor. I say this because as I indicated in my comment above, he was the main chef and ran the day-to-day functions of Mija Seoul and she was just a complimentary figure. @@neelesophie5682

This chick should never have opened a restaurant. She's the equivalent of that pet owner that bought a puppy on a whim, or because it was cute, or because it was something to just... do. The massive responsibility that comes with owning a restaurant is beyond simply, interest or desire. You have to have desire + dedication + the grind till i make it attitude + foresight. The whole process including that fiasco with the landlord was the result of her treating it like a hobby or just a "series" of episodes for her YT audience. I honestly feel sorry for her bf. He worked his butt off, and definitely pulled more of the weight than her. While she wanted to balance things out between the restaurant, her vacations, and her YT channel. Her staff, while I'm sure the majority will/have find/found jobs eventually got pulled into something that was half-thought out in the long run. They/she probably won't listen but they/she should not open another restaurant in the future, unless that is all they will be focusing on. If the bf alone decides to open something, that might be a better business move with her solely focused on marketing and PR. This all may sound harsh but I've worked in the restaurant / hospitality industry for the first 15 years of my adult life and it's no joke. From cafes, to diners, to eventually a highly regarded establishment on the verge of a star - i've been in several diff places. And the common denominator of those places that succeed is a obsessive attitude towards one single goal: a full, packed, restaurant every single day, including most holidays, with no real guarantee of succeeding beyond 3 years or turning a real consistent profit in that same time. It's no joke. Yet, she kinda treated it like a pet project.

So much time, energy and money invested into this dream of having the restaurant but you basically just admitted to choosing/prioritizing your KZbin channel more than the restaurant itself which is so irresponsible and incredibly inconsiderate and unfair to the others who invested themselves into this vision with you. My best wishes go to Kevin I actually saw raw passion and heartbreak throughout the video and when he spoke. I heard a handful of excuses from Tina

I feel really bad for your workers who were left high and dry by you two AND silenced by NDAs after the fact. You are really lucky to be able to just freely follow your dream that you had on a whim without the usual struggles that most people have to go through. You really leapt into this without doing the research into rentals, worker contracts, food planning, etc. Opening a restaurant should take up all your time... Most owners I know literally work 7 days a week for years before they are stable enough to loosen the reigns. If you are going to be jetting off for vacations and leaving your workers alone, you should be hiring someone with the background to manage on your behalf while you're gone. Kevin.. having come from a chef background, I would've thought you would know better. How would YOU feel as a worker with a leader that doesn't set clear team goals or contingency plans when they are away. You are both spoiled and caught up in your own world to think about how others are impacted.

I can see how passionate Kevin is for cooking in a unique way not many young chefs have nowadays, I hope he continues this own adventure for him soon, he deserves to be praised for his talent.

well, as one of many Doobies, I have to said this to you, but Tina has many problems, critisized about her doing her life. I'm terribly sorry about the closing of the restaurant, but this announcement... You could already see it mile away.

she basically used the restaurant to import her european boyfriend because he needed a visa, she was never around to actually help run it and nobody is surprised that it failed when Seoul isn't exactly lacking in over priced fine dining that's only open 2 days a week. from start to finish the entire situation has basically been a disaster, from suing her property owner, to renovating without permission, she's basically taught a course in how not to successfully open a business.@@inakivillagomez9273

Coming from the restaurant industry myself, I would like to say, kudos to both of you guys, it's one of the toughest industries to be in and that too starting it all by yourself without having a backing,hats off! This is just the start of an amazing journey, I'm sure you guys will be back with a banger , lots of love and appreciation to both of you !♥️💐
