Hi Jenn, I’m a longtime viewer of yours and I know I could have easily just skipped the ad segment but I hope to provide some feedback and explain why I share some of the disappointment in the comments. First the product was introduced rather abruptly; sitting down to get “candid” with us and immediately pushing a product that you just received in the mail felt disingenuous. It could have been helpful to share more of your personal finance journey and tips before recommending your audience open an account with a financial institution, which can be a big decision for much of your younger viewers. I felt a disconnect in your messaging about using their app to meet personal finance goals - it looks to be not so much a personal finance app but a mobile banking app. I would have been interested to get your perspective on why you partnered with Porte specifically and what unique value they have compared to similar banking solutions, given that I do have similar savings goals as yours. Overall I hope more thought can be put into partnerships particularly with financial products & institutions that can have a broader, long-term impact on your audience.

As someone who views pretty much every piece of content Jenn puts out on all of her social media I just disagree and so want to share (and to your point, if she could have delivered this better I might as well try to help folks scrolling thru the comments with more context in this moment): I think she might already be planning on doing some of what you suggested - a few weeks ago on her instagram stories she asked folks to share financial mistakes they made in their twenties, she's mentioned before how she's feeling financially after buying her parents a house, and she really typically doesn't leave things with just one video when she shares that it's one of her goals (what she shared about wanting to getting back on track with her savings). I also think we could give a bit more credit to younger viewers - all of the information is right there in what Jenn shared - Porte offers a mobile banking app and savings account offering budgeting/insight tools and as 3% annual yield with no monthly fees, respectively. I honestly think this sponsorship is way less concerning for her younger viewers, especially with her hinting that she's wanting to share more with us about her financial life, than her sponsorships with extremely expensive brands that barely do anything for your skin like La Mer and SKII.

@seesuhleesuh
@seesuhleesuh 3 жыл бұрын
@@popcorn10124 appreciate the reply and I do agree with your point about giving more credit to younger viewers. I was thinking back to my own experience opening high yield savings accounts in my early 20s, I had to do a ton of research on my own to understand which institution would be the best fit for me and could see how being presented with another option by an “influencer” I admire could have affected that. I understand that responsibility to explain every detail doesn’t fall entirely on Jenn but again do feel the message could have been conveyed differently, and less abruptly. I think it was immediately off-putting to see (what initially looked like a) credit card ad which really contradicts the messaging about paying off debts. Appreciate you sharing about what other content she might be planning and hope there are future opportunities to discuss these topics outside of a sponsored video :)

but advertisements are a way she makes money. i think that people have to accept that this is their job and sometimes it may come off as a little fake, but maybe they weren't contacted by a company they like 100%. think of salesmen. do you think they have the car they are promoting? 100% love the company they work for? have some understanding for them. if you don't like their ads, ignore them

For cleaning your pan, it's better to make your baking soda "paste" very thick and cake it onto the stains, and leave them on for an hour or so. And then spray some vinegar on it, it'll create a chemical reaction, then you can just wipe it and it should be clean! I use this to deep clean the oven! :)

Hi Jenn! Regarding the pan 'grease', what I do is put quite a bit of baking soda in the pan with some water (like the paste you made) and then put it on the stove to heat up. As the water-baking soda mixture evaporates the baking soda 'sticks' to the grease. Leave it on the stove until most of it has evaporated and the baking soda forms a crust. Then take it to the sink and scrub it out (I use gloves for this because the pan is still hot). If you need add a bit of water as you scrub and it should be good to go! At least it works for me :) Good luck :)

For the cleaning portion, try to use the Dawn Dish Spray along with spraying a mixture of distilled vinegar and water solution. Just buy an empty bottle from the cleaning aisle and filled up with a couple of splashes of vinegar and filled up the rest of the bottle with water. I haven't use it on stained pans like yours, but cleans off stains easily from my stove top. I have heard from this cleaning lady from tik tok that she uses it for almost anything. I would give it try next with using those two products. Spray your pan both with the Dawn dish spray and spray with the diluted vinegar solution, then let it sit for like 5 minutes then wipe it off. At least try to do that.. in case that doesn't work, you can use it as a way to clean your stove and other cleaning areas lol

For my non stick pan, I EXFOLIATE the pan with the baking soda. Get some rubber gloves, put some baking soda directly in the pan, and a LITTLE bit of water to make a paste and exfoliate it like you would exfoliate your body or something lol. Using the brush here would help too I guess but having a concentrated baking soda paste to scrub with is key. After exfoliating add some white vinegar, it’ll bubble, and then wash as you normally would with dish soap, hopefully this helps!!

I think Jenn is sweet and thoughtful, and I love her videos, but I’m not surprised by the sponsorship. People need to remember that influencers are not organizers or activists-there is nothing inherently radical/revolutionary about their work, which is embedded in and profits off of capitalist structures. I do not watch her and other lifestyle influencers’ content for political education. We need to listen to organizers and other people on the ground who are doing the work for that. Influencers will always disappoint you in this regard (if you consider your politics to be left of liberal) because again, their very livelihood depends on buy-in to problematic narratives such as the one she puts forth in this video (individualized rather than structural view of debt.) I doubt Visa would’ve sponsored her if she were a strong advocate for debt jubilee lol! Anyways, I get that people want to push/hold accountable influencers they like, but I think we have to remember how they’re limited by their positionality, i.e., people who make a living off of pushing products... Anyways, no disrespect to Jenn. If she happens to read this comment, I’d recommend to her the book “Debt” by David Graeber, which is a beautiful history of debt throughout the world. Peace to all.

cleaning things with baking soda secrets - if you want to just use it with water you have to use very little water so that it's more a paste. if you dissolve the baking soda then it's not as abrasive! you could also sprinkle baking soda on the affected areas, then apply a bit of vinegar, let it bubble up for about 5 minutes, and then rinse off! :)

For that pot you were cleaning, usually I just use a put it in warm water and then put some soap in it and clean it with blue sponge (abrasive/non-abrasive). I know they say cleaning with soap isn't good for pots but I do it for that one so it doesn't stain. Not sure if you want to give it a try but it worked for me. Hopefully it does for you if you do try it out!

Boil the baking soda with water and keep it covered for at least 20minutes. Also if you get a plastic scraper my mom uses that to get in the corners without ruining her non stick pan.

To clean your pan: you need The Pink Stuff. You can get from Amazon. It's a grainy paste that relies on friction to scrub out tough stains. Works like magic and you can use it on most things!

With the baking soda method, you want to create a thicker paste- almost like toothpaste. And you cover up all the grime and let it sit overnight. In the morning, you should be able to just wipe everything clean! It worked on my oven/stovetop :)

I remember when I first moved to England and made whippped cream! I never thought it could be so easy too. There are aerosols here but I think people tend to make their own, because at Christmas you get really interested whipped cream flavours like Baileys!

hey Jenn! this might help with your pan cos it made mine look almost brand new. try 1 part vinegar, 1 part water and about 2 tablespoons of baking powder. let it boil and make sure to put the solution over the parts with stains, it should come out easily!

Try this pan cleaning method: make that baking soda paste plus a squeeze of dish soap and rub it on the DRY pan. Let it sit for 10 minutes then pour in 50/50 distilled white vinegar (smells less like ass) and water up to the top (best to do this in your sink because vinegar+baking soda will cause bubbles. Leave it alone for at least an hour. Add some elbow grease and scrub as much off as you can. Hopefully this works. ✨

Nonstick pans are super high maintenance. The protective layer of PTFE degrades over time and the average life span of a non stick is 3.5 years. Once you get a scratch on the pan, food starts to stick and its practically useless. I don't use nonstick unless is absolutely necessary for whatever I'm cooking (for example: souffle pancakes). Try opting to stainless steel pans for everyday cooking :)

Love the vlog, Jenn :) You've really inspired me to journal more in the past few months, and I'm surprised how much I love it - thank you! Re: your pan, I think the note to not use Barkeeper's Friend on non-stick refers to Teflon and other non-stick materials that have the potential to flake off. If I'm right to assume your pan is ceramic (naturally non-stick), you can definitely use BKF on it -- just follow the instructions on the back and make sure you don't leave it on too long. :)

You have one of my favorite songs in this vlog, what a pleasant surprise ( Kalaido - Hanging Lanterns) .. loved the "Fry off!" you guys are too cute! My fave baked fries had a little trick where you cut your raw potato but then soak it in very hot/ boiling water for 10 minutes then you pat dry, and sprinkle mix of garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper and salt after using a little olive oil on them.. baked @ 400 degrees for 45 min or so ( flip half way through) ... they get almost puffy and flaky, really recommend this method.
