Dear sensei Dan, some swordmen told me that Kage Ryu kenjitsu or Japanese double handed sabre techiques are linked to the taichi "cloud hand". I am wondering if it is possible can you tell us this phenomenon please?

I haven’t heard this but I can certainly see a resemblance - especially to angled cuts and the way your hands are placed! Thanks for sharing this interesting observation!

The saber techniques that link with this are the ones that follow the lines known as the primary cuts. The diagonals that would cut from shoulder to waist. Cloud hands footwork...the inner saber maintains contact with your body, does the diagonal cut, the outer saber does a horizontal cut...swap sabers...the saber that was just drawn across the body twirls upwards and out ready for the horizontal strike, the saber that was horizontal flicks up high then rests on shoulder ready to be drawn diagonal across the body. then turn the body back....repeat..until its fluid.... I was taught this with big surgeons knives its very effective as an offensive defence.

Every sword swing is a circular movement. Therefore, any empty hand circular technique, be it mawashi uke or cloud hands, can be interpreted as a sword swing.

Hey Dan, could you share some ideas about practicing kata/bunkai alone?
