And they've probably wanted to have a Final Fantasy character in the game for a while, so they just ran with it and started negotiations with Square Enix early. That said, the December Direct will probably deal with the Ballot.

While it's very possible that Cloud getting added to the roster had nothing to do with the ballot, if he DID win, the people over at Nintendo would have known he was winning and made the model in advanced. I'm not saying that this is the case, but how long did the ballot even run? It was months, right? Plus, another announcement next month? The ballot ended a month ago, so who knows? Maybe they're announcing winner number 2 (or number 1, depending) next month. Also, if it wasn't the ballot, what then? The only Nintendo published game Cloud was in was Chain of Memories for the GBA, unless the FFVII remake is coming to the NX which... Huh, I kinda can't see why not. I doubt it, but we can't rule out the possibility.

There was no "winning the ballot" to begin with. getting top votes on the ballot didnt mean the characters would be added its not a poll. Sakurai just looked at cloud knowing that hes a famous game icon and there were alot of votes for him to be considered in as will be the case for alot of future characters. fingers crossed for SK doe.

This wasn't the Ballot, HMK. If you noticed, a lot of Final Fantasy games have been coming out for Nintendo Consoles, particularly Final Fantasy Explorers for the 3DS. Cloud is no doubt there for Promotional Purposes.

It takes a while to make fighters, so i think Cloud was pre planned and the Smash ballot winners will be announced in December. But this shows characters with no link to Nintendo can get into smash, so Sora is still an option when it comes to the smash ballot.

Yeah Cloud isn't part of the Smash ballot. The Smash ballot will be probably announced in December as suggested in the direct. Though I am...mixed feelings about Cloud being in Smash, like I am not really happy that we have A TENTH swordsmen. But at the same time though shows that Square and Nintendo has good ties with one another, since they have a long history with one another.

Cloud ISN'T the Ballot winner, he's appears way too farlong in development and I'm pretty sure he didn't have that big of a Ballot presence compared to K.
