If they are dashing, yes, it is fastest to cancel the dash with jump, cancel the jump by interrupting jumpsquat with upsmash. If it is easier for you, you can cancel dash with crouch, which is slower.

In reference to a jump canceled upsmash. You have more or less frames to cancel your jump with the upsmash. With less frames, its easier to jump and get and upair for being too slow

You'd think that, but the reality is Hbox used to start throwing out random pounds whenever he got impatient. Eventually at one of the smash summits he got punished so hard for it someone called him out on it & he stopped doing it, but even today when he plays he'll start doing very aggressive forward moving bairs or begin wavedashing/shielding looking for a grab techchase with puff. Tldr, his internal timer still runs out, he just shows it differently.
