The most obvious answer for "Why did Clover try to eat the Statue of Liberty" is....Clover is a baby. Babies spend the first few years of their life putting anything they can in their mouths to figure out if it's food. Clover starts with the Statue of Liberty, finds out it doesn't taste good, and throws it away (as seen in the movie). Then Clover finds out that humans actually taste much better and decides to eat them instead.
@jonatanluna1061
@jonatanluna1061 Ай бұрын
Or, what if Clover's first taste of food actually was humans. And so when it spots what looks like a giant human it thinks, "Nice, more food" Gives it bite, realizes the big one isn't food, then spits it out. And then back to option A.

I worked on Cloverfield as a background extra. It actually led to me getting with my SO because they damaged her car during filming(It's a whole other story). The amount of NDA and secrecy was heavier than anything I had worked on. Most of the crowd shots in the early movie was filmed at Paramount studios and we were given very vague instructions on reacting to certain things but we had no idea what we were actually reacting to. Entire buildings in the outdoor city setting on the Paramount lot were covered in green screen. It was kind of impressive. They were using the Cloverfield name for the project, but we were told it was just a placeholder name, which is not uncommon with productions that are trying to avoid attention when filming on location outside of a studio.

My head canon: JJ is doing all this for purpose to create mystery. If everything is just neatly catalogued and explained, it kills much of the mystique around it. At the same time it also limits the creators on fixed and set plot train of a plot. So, JJ and the others just started contradicting each others in every way and they succeeded: the timeline, origins and what-not is still a total mystery. And i like it that way.

The 15th anniversary 4K edition has a bonus feature called “special investigation mode” where it basically shows the entire movie with extra stuff around it, which included a space for background information in text (like who the characters were, locations, timeline, etc.) and a pic to go along with it. Some of it is easily reconcilable though. It was an alien that crashed to Earth as it clearly didn't evolve in Earth gravity. Then the company woke it up while drilling. At the end of the movie the monster was still alive when they camera was running, but died afterwards. This isn't so far fetched. After all, the humans who were at ground zero for the bombing were also still alive, enough to say it was still alive, at least. But then they died, too. The tape seems to clearly cut before all the action is over, after all. The only real issue are the dates given in the ARG and the movie conflicting.

@@Dimeinurearnot just have something in the box, either. It has to be designed in such a way that suddenly everything makes 100% sense. In writing my own “Mystery Boxes”, this is the hardest part to get right, but is the most satisfying to an audience. The solution to the mystery answers all the questions in the lore. Then, if you’re really good at writing… the answer gives you new questions and maybe new lore. It isn’t enough to say, “everyone was dead the whole time”. You have to say, “this is why only these people showed up here despite how many people die every single day”. Then, you can move on to, “but wait, people can die twice? What happened to those people?” And you have a new and interesting bit of lore to keep going with. Early X-Files handled the Mystery Box the best in my opinion. Answer some questions, raise more. Keep edging toward the conclusion, deliver a satisfying answer.

To me the lack of these details helped add in the sense of helplessness that made the movie such a unique experience. Possible explanation for the statue being attacked by Clover is that it was going for the metal. The first thing Clover attacks is the tanker which also is not human nor human shaped. But it is metal. If metal is a dietary requirement like salt or calcium clover probably attacked both to fulfill that requirement and then ate people because they were nearby and had enough calories to justify it. Clover probably saw people like a whale sees shrimp. Tasty and nutritious if consumed in large numbers but missing some key nutrients, like copper and iron.

Cloverfield was one of the most memorable films from my years growing up. Everything from the promotion of the film to begging my mom to rent it, it was filled with mystery and anticipation. That lady exploding was AMAZING. It feels like art.

I mean Cloverfield Lane was good, but when I found out it wasn't originally a Cloverfield movie I just was wondering why they bothered to shoehorn that into it since it would have worked very well on its own (Everyone is afraid of the monster/disease/apocalyptic-whatever thing outside, but the real monster was inside the shelter the whole time), and then Paradox came out and I just wanted to bash my brains into a wall...

@@ThatGuySizzleMac I theorized that the thing that connects the series together was Tagruato (I theorized that due to a combination of the trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane when it first came out, an interview at the time stating that 10 Cloverfield Lane took place in a different universe with the monster having no involvement and the ARG for 10 Cloverfield Lane. Though The Cloverfield Paradox took that alternate dimension thing very literally). Even up to the abysmal Paradox, my theory remained accurate to the end with the ARGs and easter eggs in the movies (though Paradox's ARG was very tiny and felt tacked on and only added a few things to the story). The alien twist in 10 Cloverfield Lane was actually spoiled in the ARG (though it never revealed that there was an apocalyptic invasion), it only focused entirely on John Goodman's character and expanding on him without revealing the twists related to his character in the movie.

Cloverfield is still one of my favorite movies to this day. It's engaging and intriguing, it makes you care more about the human characters than the monster, and it's a pretty believable story all things considered. Plus it came out on my birthday so that was cool. I was also one of those people who thought it was a Godzilla movie and hey, we were only kind of wrong. Chronicle is incredible as well; I'm always torn between being disappointed we never got more content from that universe and being glad there wasn't a sequel to ruin such a great movie.

*They’re supposedly making a sequel to this movie without found footage* .. which tbh I think removes the movies’ charm. This movie was like “What If a Kaiju existed?” And it dealt with it in such a grounded way. They should do a TV show instead sorta like ‘World War Z’ and have it be a collection of stories of people and how life was changed after a Kaiju attack and the Infection that followed from the Parasites or something.

Cloverfield is awesome. At least the first 2 films are, to me. What’s funny is the ARG teams actually made the 2 films connected on the same Earth in a way that makes sense. The Aliens of 10 Cloverfield Lane (which had such unique designs too) were spying on the Cloverfield Sea Monsters. There’s thousands of eggs down there. A human Satellite came close to discovering the Aliens Satellite so they shot it down, which ironically landed in the Atlantic and struck open an egg prematurely, starting the first Film. And the person who discovered the Aliens Satellite? It was Howard from the second film. He new something had just declared an act of war on Earth. The New York attack was too far for the aliens as the local insects were now a threat to their crops, which caused the invasion years later. If you think this sounds cool, I highly recommend you watch the short film “MEGAN” it follows Howard’s Daughter on the first day of the alien invasion. It was meant to be a proof of concept by a Director passionate for a world that sets both films on 1 Earth. JJ Abrams never took interest. 😔 Then Cloverfield Paradox happened.

I remember being hyped for the film, but when its still named God's Particle. I suddenly confused on the changes to Cloverfield LOL. Checked the story and its reception. LMAO what an utter garbage. A story about a group of astronaut tried to return to main universe after getting teleported to an Alternate Universe (AU) bcs AU are naturally wanted to kill them. But they portray half assed so its not enjoyable. Most of it are by human conflict. The movie definitely wont survive the box office. Then Abrams swoop in, rename the movie, put 2-3 scenes related to the first cloverfield and done. Also hes being lucky that it was COVID-19 so he put it on Netflix instead of Cinema I am so fucking pissed off with this decision because the weirdness of the film or clover reference arent even worthy of being in Cloververse. Also they ruin of my hype of God's particle film. ATP I knew Abrams is just in for the money. Slap his name or cloverfield on any franchise without even put lots of participation of filmmaking and done Abrams literally become the stephen King quote "Fool me once, shame on you.
