Also - what you said about 'looks first, then name' - THANK YOU. I have some really gorgeous animals that I've picked up here and there, and I can tell that some of them come from mass productions like big chain pet stores... but there are a couple I bought from Craigslist from people who said "I paid $300 for it at a reptile show, but my kid lost interest so I'll take $50 or trade for xyz..." - and they are amazing! I've also become the crazy gecko lady in the neighborhood and I've been GIVEN a few beauties. I have some tangerines that are soooooo saturated, just like Starburst, and I'm hoping to prove that out this year. For all I know, they could be one of YOUR tangerines, they are from local breeders. But yes - thank you for talking about how not to get totally caught up in a name. It should be common sense, but it's very confusing for beginning breeders! I have some really well pedigreed ones from breeders with great reputations, as well... so it will be fun to see which set comes up with the prettiest offspring this year! Fingers crossed.

Thank you for this! I've been wondering 'what makes a clown', and here ya go! :) I have some geckos that came from Sasobek's stock, once removed I guess you'd say (offspring from some offspring someone bought from him). He really did develop some great animals, and it's cool to see him bounce back. More power to him! Everyone deserves a second chance, and it would be a shame to waste the opportunity to learn from someone like him. Business and politics always rear their ugly heads, no matter the hobby... so, the best we can do is to take what we need and leave the rest behind. Thanks again for the info. You're a great teacher.

Yeh thats very good input that i tend to try as much as possible to take myself, thats why i even promote people who have given us problems, if they truely have good info/geckos, try to leave personal experiences/feelings out of it, unless I feel like those experiences might hurt someone else in a bad way, then ill say something, but again I'm human too, so my judgment is just to make people aware/warned, not to condemn anyone, thats not my place : D

Hi sir can you make a video next time explaining if in the long run is there a possibility that the albino blood in a tangerine can be gone with line breeding ?
@GeekyGeckoCreations2 жыл бұрын
Hello! Yes, just to answer your questions, if you have an Albino you would breed it to a non albino, then those babies you would breed to another non albino and test every baby to see which ones got the albino gene and which didnt, 50% of the babies from a "het albino" to a non albino pairing will inherit the albino gene, once you test it out by breeding a pure albino to every one of those babies, the babies that dont produce albinos are now completely free of the albino mutation :D Here is a link to our visual genetics series to show how genes are passed on for better understanding :D kzbin.info/aero/PLx8bHR1oX-db8PMZqy7u5IO13Div-Xn6q

One question or maybe you could go over one day is: for first time females Now im speaking on! If they allow the male to do his thing BUT she is not ovulating! Would she retain that for her upcoming ovulation” esp mated 2xs” one of my females never laid any clutch’s but mated 2xs she’s. 9 months and plenty heavy.. or do I have to mate her again when I deff see an ovul?because now she pissy! Confused she the only female I’ve seen let the male mate with her but now she hates him and she never got preg 🤔
@GeekyGeckoCreations2 жыл бұрын
yeh good idea, i always repair if this happens. because there is a "chance" that when a female enters a new cycle that the old sperm is gone. Now there also is a chance that it's still there, so keep track of both dads so u can identify the babies best :D

@GeekyGeckoCreations2 жыл бұрын
Yes because a lot of geckos are produced each year that look similar to clowns but are not officially from clown bloodlines thats why i say not to focus on name, but more looks :D :D
@whiskeyneat972 жыл бұрын
You can make anything that looks exactly like sasobek's old clowns, but unless you get original clown lineage, you shouldn't/can't in good conscience call it a clown. It's a new line that you created, so you can't call it clown. Not saying you couldn't create something better looking than clowns, but you'd have to name it something else. Also, you're treating emerine like it's separate from tangerine. All emerine is the lavender color on normals, but the pigment changes to green when the scale pigment is orange. This isn't really as informative as you think it is. In fact, I think you're misguiding newcomers.
@GeekyGeckoCreations2 жыл бұрын
1) Emerine is on geckos that are not orange. Some of the greenest geckos are bold stripe / bold project animals that have no orange pigment. 2) I never said to call it clown 2.0, that's what Matt did. I simply said if you create a clown-like animal from non-clown lines, you could name it whatever you want to. So you are really supporting my point? 3) Clowns came from combining almost all bloodlines of tangerine, so in essence, even if you call it "something different" they all derive from the same bloodlines since we have no new imports in the hobby and so your point to the perspective that "it's something completely different," might not hold too much strength from that point of view. Thank you for comments though! :D :D
@houndgirl73652 жыл бұрын
... if it looks like a clown wouldn't it be a clown then? I mean in ball python terms yes clown is a recessive gene, but if it has said gene it's a clown. Wouldn't that be the same for these geckos? Sure it's not a gene but something achieved by line breeding well technically if one animal looks like another wouldn't they be titled the same to avoid confusion instead of dumping a bunch of names in? Sure people can have their own lineage but then it could be (insert random name here) Clowns or something like that to help avoid confusion. Idk I think it's kind of redundant to reinvent the wheel and isn't as friendly for people trying to enter the hobby. Essentially to me it's people putting fancy titles to sell their geckos for more despite looking the same as something else. It's not cool to reinvent the wheel and why you attack this creator who breaks down lineage is just beyond me. Obviously geckos aren't ball pythons and there are a lot less recessive genes in this project, but unless something is drastically/noticeably different a clown is a clown from (insert breeders name here) that's how it should be done it's how tegus are being dealt with as we hybridize and I really hope tegus don't fall into that same habit :/
