At first glance of the album cover, I thought this *was* Expose, but I didn't remember them doing this song, so I figured it was an Expose-alike band. I remember the song, but not the band name. There were extended dance mixes to many of the dance pop hits of the 80’s, 90’s, & beyond. Many DJs had 12 inch records where 1 song was on 1 side of an LP, the mixes were 5-15min long w/all kinds of extra sounds thrown in which were great in clubs & house parties. They were also fun to work out to! In DC in the 80’s there was a record store specically called “12 Inches” that sold these mixes to DJs along w/fans like me who were into this genre. They would give you a Walkman, & you could pick the tapes to put in to listen to that had about 2-3 dance mixes on each side of the tapes(precurser to the Tower Records listening stations), then you could buy the record of the songs you listened to, it was a fun hangout & a great way to buy music

This music was called club or Freestyle and was big in the clubs in mid 80's and early 90's. The breaks were longer so the dj's could mix in and out of. When you thought the video was skipping that's called staccato edits. Edits were also big at that time.

So funny that's a sound they've never heard before.

I don't know I was born in 89 so I didn't really grow up with that music but a lot of the freestyle came out in the mid-80s and New Jack swing kind of took over toward the end of the 80s even though there was a little bit of freestyle the r&b and The hip Hop kind of mixed together and freestyle mostly went away while a lot of hip hop groups used the New Jack swing type beats and melodies, but as far as I know around 82 or 83 Shannon's song called let the music play came out in the early eighties but it really didn't kick off until I don't know 1985 maybe and like I said New Jack swing had fully taken over by 89 or 90 so it's a very short-lived style of music but very good catchy and a lot of rap groups of that time used freestyle beats.
@TruthinChaos10232 ай бұрын
@@SCORPION89199 you are correct New Jack swing / R&B was way more prominent on the radio at that time Freestyle had very few tracks that got air play with the exception of maybe Lisette Melendez with together forever and Lisa Lisa with lost in emotions. both hit around 96 or 97. Freestyle at that time hit the clubs or the underground dance clubs. K7 released Swing Batta Swing which probably got the most air play with the switch to R&B style tracks. In 93-94. It was a great era for music I loved DJ'ing back then.

To this song, we could two step side to side with on hand snapping and the other holding a drink of choice or dance on over to our table to take a shot then be back on the floor by the beat of four. If the dance floor was crowded, we were pretty much jogging or stepping in place. Even when we took a break from the floor, we were still grooving in our seats and tapping our feets. Technically we be-bop’d non-stop from 9pm-midnight. *Parents wanted us home at midnight then later the babysitter wanted us to be home at midnight. 3 short hours on Friday and Saturday nights to dance away the stress of the working week behind and the working week to come. Therapeutic for many of us so if they kept pumping out the dance hits, we kept dancing to them.
