Expose - Cover Girls - Company B - Seduction - Other great girl groups from that time period that had this sound

At first glance of the album cover, I thought this *was* Expose, but I didn't remember them doing this song, so I figured it was an Expose-alike band. I remember the song, but not the band name. Honestly, this was guilty pleasure stuff for me. At the time I was into Rush, U2, REM, Iron Maiden, Journey, etc.

There were extended dance mixes to many of the dance pop hits of the 80’s, 90’s, & beyond. Many DJs had 12 inch records where 1 song was on 1 side of an LP, the mixes were 5-15min long w/all kinds of extra sounds thrown in which were great in clubs & house parties. They were also fun to work out to! In DC in the 80’s there was a record store specically called “12 Inches” that sold these mixes to DJs along w/fans like me who were into this genre. They would give you a Walkman, & you could pick the tapes to put in to listen to that had about 2-3 dance mixes on each side of the tapes(precurser to the Tower Records listening stations), then you could buy the record of the songs you listened to, it was a fun hangout & a great way to buy music

OMG YESSSS!!! Jay, you would have loved the 80s. You have now entered the world of Freestyle. This was played in all the clubs. It is it's own genre. Most did not make the Pop top 10 but they surely were on the dance club Top 10. Please bring on more Freestyle. This will get you started. Trinere, India, Expose, Coro, TKA, George Lamond, Stevie B (I think you did the ballad) Lizette Melendez. They are just the ones I thought of right away. I can't wait until you get to some of these. I miss those days. There were so many clubs. We used to be at the club in Delaware and drive to Wildwood NJ to an after hours club. I saw so many of these artists there at Club Que Vadis. You made my day with this selection! BTW you had Taylor Dayne as a guest and she was a part of the freestyle period too. And April, 5 minutes straight? You would be lucky if you could get us off the dancefloor after an hour straight!

This music was called club or Freestyle and was big in the clubs in mid 80's and early 90's. The breaks were longer so the dj's could mix in and out of. When you thought the video was skipping that's called staccato edits. Edits were also big at that time.

I don't know I was born in 89 so I didn't really grow up with that music but a lot of the freestyle came out in the mid-80s and New Jack swing kind of took over toward the end of the 80s even though there was a little bit of freestyle the r&b and The hip Hop kind of mixed together and freestyle mostly went away while a lot of hip hop groups used the New Jack swing type beats and melodies, but as far as I know around 82 or 83 Shannon's song called let the music play came out in the early eighties but it really didn't kick off until I don't know 1985 maybe and like I said New Jack swing had fully taken over by 89 or 90 so it's a very short-lived style of music but very good catchy and a lot of rap groups of that time used freestyle beats.
@TruthinChaos1023
@TruthinChaos1023 2 ай бұрын
@@SCORPION89199 you are correct New Jack swing / R&B was way more prominent on the radio at that time Freestyle had very few tracks that got air play with the exception of maybe Lisette Melendez with together forever and Lisa Lisa with lost in emotions. both hit around 96 or 97. Freestyle at that time hit the clubs or the underground dance clubs. K7 released Swing Batta Swing which probably got the most air play with the switch to R&B style tracks. In 93-94. It was a great era for music I loved DJ'ing back then.

My ex-wife and I had just started dating when this song came out. Yes, we hit the clubs (such as they were in Marshalltown, Iowa). Some of those dance tracks lasted a long time. Gave you plenty of time to sweat out the alcohol (Well, they were CLUBS, after all). We once danced to Sweet's song 'Ballroom Blitz'. Oh, to young and agile again, me showing off all those moves I picked up in San Diego, and Los Angeles. Shout out to The Beat Club and Brandi's R.I.P. When I left Marshalltown in 2012, the location where Brandi's was, was a hospice and The Beat Club was a tractor dealership.

To this song, we could two step side to side with on hand snapping and the other holding a drink of choice or dance on over to our table to take a shot then be back on the floor by the beat of four. If the dance floor was crowded, we were pretty much jogging or stepping in place. Even when we took a break from the floor, we were still grooving in our seats and tapping our feets. Technically we be-bop’d non-stop from 9pm-midnight. *Parents wanted us home at midnight then later the babysitter wanted us to be home at midnight. 3 short hours on Friday and Saturday nights to dance away the stress of the working week behind and the working week to come. Therapeutic for many of us so if they kept pumping out the dance hits, we kept dancing to them.

You're right the 80's was all about dancing while this track was 5 minutes almost every dance track had an extended 12 inch remix and could go as long as 9 minutes. That's one thing I miss is deejaying in the 80's and 90's where you went out to dancing for hours! The electric guitar parts really bring this ballad to life (pun not intended).

I hope you listen to more Jody Whatley. "Don't You Want Me" is an 80's dance classic! I also recommend listening to Pebbles: "Mercedes Boy" and Girlfriend" (both released in 1988).

Thank you for finally reacting to one of my favorite groups I danced to back in the day. If you do another Sweet Sensation reaction in the future, I would like to suggest another dance hit by them with a Latin feel, Sincerely Yours. I know the both of you will enjoy it too.

Like many 80s song, this song charted twice and did much better the second time. Same with Paula Abdul's "(It's Just) The Way That You Love Me" and Bruce Hornsby's "Every Little Kiss" and Synch's "Where Are You Now?"

This song was produced by a member of one of my favorite rap groups (at the time), The Boogie Boys. I recommend "A Fly Girl" by them.

Freestyle IS the shizz. I grew up on this music. Stevie B, Timex Social Club, Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam, Noel. Exposé ran my life. Iykyk. I miss it. I'm not sure if she's freestyle but I loved Stacy Q. Was she, or was she a pretender to the crown. 😮😢

There's a remixed Radio Edit of this song, wich makes it a bit "smoother" and easier to listen all through. Also that Radio Edit was played on the chart shows. This version played here is for Dance Clubs and Disco remixes
