This song was originally written to be a X-mas song with other lyrics.. but Per Gessle got a request for a song to the Movie Pretty Woman and re-wrote the lyrics which resulted in this version.. He is one he.. of a songwriter !!.. R.I.P. Marie, but also to Pelle Alsing.. the drummer who passed away only one year after Marie.. He was a sweet soul, I used to meet him at the local cafe/kiosk Cafe Brasco here in Stockholm !! Thank you for the Music !!

Roxette is Sweden‘s greatest Music Export after ABBA. I grew up with them. The song writer, guitarist and „deep voice“ is Per Gessle, the female singer is Marie Fredriksson, who died some 10 years or so ago after she fought cancer for almost a decade or so. The were the sound of a whole generation in the late 80ies and the early 90ies. Another great hit is „listen to your heart“. RIP Marie, you are already immortal!

I was a crazy guy back in the 80s, I loved the women of rock(every single 1 of them) I cried when she passed into the spirit world. So many have passed now and I do and cried for every one but I know there suffering has ended, I'm happy knowing I'll see them all again and I will party and have fun with them all in the next after we pass from this the yellow world we are in now. Have fun in all you do Miss Bisscute, you are loved and a very gorgeous woman.

It was originally a sad Christmas song by Roxette recorded in 1987... the producers of 'Pretty woman' wanted the song for the movie. Apparently, Per Gessle (the guy of the duo) was not happy w/ the requests to change the lyrics for the movie... but they made him an offer 🤑🤑so the song was re-recorded and became one of the biggest singles of 1990. The Swedish pop duo of Roxette (Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson) became friends in Sweden's music scene in the 80's... Gessle wrote a batch of new songs and asked Marie to sing on them, and Roxette was born in 1986. The band released 1 album ('Pearls of passion') before being signed in the UK and released the 2nd album 'Look sharp!' in 1988... that record was a huge hit in Europe... and then the USA in 1989. After the success of 'It must have been love' in 1990 on the 'Pretty Woman' soundtrack, Roxette returned in 1991 w/ 'Joyride', which became a worldwide success. Unfortunately, the 90's decade started to decline the popularity of 80's artists... the next album 'Crash! Boom! Bang!' (1994) did well, but sold below expectations. Taking a break from recording & touring, Marie Fredriksson would marry and welcome her children. Roxette finally emerged in 1999 w/ 'Have a nice day' and had some success... Things took a dark turn after the album 'Room service' (2001) ... Marie Fredriksson was diagnosed w/ brain cancer in '02, and faced a long recovery from treatments. Roxette went silent for some years... In 2009, Marie finally contacted Per Gessle about performing again & working on a new Roxette album, despite her losing sight in 1 eye. Roxette's comeback album 'Charm school' arrived in 2011. Roxette's last album together was 'Good Karma' in 2016... around that time, doctors told Marie Fredriksson to stop touring. She performed her final shows that very year...In 2019, it was announced that Marie Fredriksson had passed away after a long battle w/ cancer at age 61 😪 Per Gessle performs Roxette's music as 'Per Gessle's Roxette' nowadays w/ hired musicians & singers...

Roxette is a duo, a man and a woman. He sings too, so the low voice you hear at times is him harmonizing with her. Wouldn't Want you to get kicked out of your family so try "the Look" and "Joy Ride" to name a few of their bangers. They are so good. Love your reactions! This is the only song I've ever heard from Roxette, and that was a long time ago. I like the snare, and some the musical elements/synths, that 80s. That first line has been stuck in my head forever . . . lay a whisper, on my pillow. It just randomly pops in for a visit at least a couple times a month which is strange because I never listen to this nor was I ever into this song. 🙃

Roxette was the best duo ever. They were Swedish and I have to write in past tense because the female part of this duet( Marie FREDRIKSSON) has died the 9th December 2019. They sold more than 80 million albums. And they made 4 worldwide tours and 3,5 million people saw them. They had 4 numbers 1 in Billboard. They were so successful in South America that they released a whole in Spanish ( Baladas En Español in 1996).

R.I.P. to the band's beautiful girl, Marie Fredriksson. 😥 If you'd like, you should react to *Billy Preston* and *Syreeta Wright* on their so very much superb song.. *_"With You I'm Born Again"._* As soon as you'll hear all of it, and as soon as you're gonna feel its perfection in its all.. music and lyrics altogether, you're gonna remember me, and my suggestion! Listen to my advice and go for it. 🥰

I grew up with Roxette in the 90s. Then I lost them out of sight, as I tended to more heavy stuff. But today I have to say they are the true successors of ABBA. They really have a knack for melodies. All sounds quite simple, but it isn't. It's quite hard to write melodies, that stay in memory for decades. Another great one would be Crash Boom Bang. Somehow all the Swedish bands have great melodies, even the heavy ones like Amon Amarth, Candlemass or Opeth.

I know these songs were way before you were born, but I’m amazed these great songs are not known but many in your generation. These are classics and everyone needs to know these songs. I don’t know why for decades these songs get forgotten and 3 decades later everyone is sick eating these great song. For a few decades I’ve noticed them at many of the younger ppl. thought music from their parents generation was corny or ancient, instead of appreciating the greats that came before. I mean when I was young in the 80’s and 90’s, I took interest in the great music from the past and do did many ppl. in my generation. So something changed and instead of ppl. having a mind of their own vs just following everyone else. So that’s what I miss, ppl. from my generation that seemed out the new and wanted to do things different from what everyone else was doing. Sure we’ve also had followers, but it also was the norm to have your own style . Why in the 80’s with so many band, most chose the bands they connected with. Not like now when someone is huge, everyone is all over it. Let’s have some variety and diversity.

It must have been love (Christmas for the broken hearted) was the original title. And then they were asked to change it slightly so it would fit to the movie in 1990 and re-release it.
