Blondie came from the punk/"New wave" movement in New York in the 70s into the 80s. The imaging of the 80s overtook the "rebellious grime" of traditional punk. Just so you know, she's been through some serious ups and downs over the years but she's still out there, banging away on tour again... In her 80s. That voice is so natural and unforced, it's *ethereal* (that's the term you were looking for) and it's just magical. She can be soft, floating and "ethereal" one minute, then powerful and punchy the next, holding amazing notes and tone. She's definitely "got it," not that you can really define what "it" is... And that's the point. 😊

Before Richard Gere was an officer, he was a gigolo in "The American Gigolo" (1980). "Call Me" does not appear on any studio album. You either need a greatest hits, the soundtrack or a live version.

And/or…. "Colour me (something)" means the same as "call me (something)", typically, "colour me stupid" or "colour me gone". Green's Slang Dictionary has "color" (US) as "to see, present as", and the first citation is for an advertisement for a television series (I'm Dickens He's Fenster) in 1962 "Color her married". Personally, I always imagined she was kind of saying, “Color me pink? Forget that. This dude can color me any color he likes, as long as it’s him that’s coloring me.” “Color me pink” of course being a phase used to say, “I’m flattered.” It’s a playful version of “Staaaaahhhhhp, you’re making me blush.” Its playfulness and the color pink imply a certain innocence. By suggesting she be colored by his color, you could imply that she’s not embarrassed, or that she’s down for anything, or even they get closer to compare colors; much closer. BLONDIE was so cutting edge at the time. Their style of music was punk/new wave/disco/pop/raggae/funk and used early hip hop. You could not put them in a box and label them. Debbie Harry was gorgeous and was worked for Hugh Hefner as a Playboy Bunny. Colour Me is just another way of saying "CALL ME" - Colour me a fool for example. The colour me part is because it's taken from the film American Gigolo. Debbie saw it before it was released to get some inspiration. The film uses subtle colours hence the lyric. The call me line is because the film is about a male escort who says "call me" throughout the film.

I remember when this came out I loved it. It’s from the film American Gigolo about a male escort. I think when she sings at the beginning verse about colours , it’s a metaphor for I can be anything you want, I can be this for you, or that for you. You name it. “Atomic”is my favorite. This was a song from the movie American Gigolo. This was composed and produced by Giorgio Moroder ( Scarface, etc.) he basically pioneered Synth music.Brian Eno heard Donna Summer/ Moroders song “I feel love” and told David Bowie. “I just heard the future.”

Rapture is the first song with a Rap element to hit number 1. Rappers Delight was probably the first popular rap song. The Message, by Grandmaster Flash and the Fab Five was released a few years later by Sugar Hill Records. Grandmaster Flash did appear in the Rapture video, and was called out. He may have been working with Debby Harry to help her learn to rap. I think this is late 1970s, probably 1978 or 1979. Blondie started out as Punk Rock, they did everything. They even covered a Reggae song called, "The Tide is High." I actually like "Atomic". Debby Harry did release a solo album covering Blondie's hits in the 1980s or 1990s, called "Once More Into The Bleach"

You said that Blondie, (you mean Debbie Harry) doesn't look punk to you. Her hair was definitely punk. That blonde with the roots showing, or two-tone hair was definitely not mainstream at the time even though it's more in style nowadays. Then, it was new and rebellious. I was a hairdresser then and we were all intrigued that she did this on purpose. It's hard to express now how different this was back then.

Early 90's, earl;y 20's. On my own, working full time;, I"m eating at a back alley diner in a Canadian city. Surprisingly, a tiny powerhouse brunette belted out this song like she was Blondie herself. She may have even sounded better than Blondie.. I sh*t you not. The talent out here, unknown, because they don't fit some imagery is staggering. But then we get the treats like the one I just shared with you.. the memory of that girl and her voice. The first rap I ever heard was in a men's room in Detroit at a Tubes concert. This guy was freestyling and the bathroom was jammed. The guy was so good and made perfect sense like Harry Mack. You could hear people all over asking friends if they heard the guy in the men's room. This was in 1974 at the Masonic Temple. Blondie was from the heroin chic era when fashion models looked like strung out junkies.
