Club Car Precedent High Speed Motor Magnet | How to Install on Golf Cart

Barry at, DIY Golf Cart, shows you how to replace and install a high speed motor magnet on a Club Car Precedent golf cart. This little magnet installs on the end of your electric motor with basic tools. After installing the magnet you should see speed increases up to 5 MPH. Please note that Barry is wearing jewelry in this video and this is not recommended if you are working on your cart. you can install it easy removing the rear passenger wheel to access it that way but you might need a pry bar to prevent the axle from moving back and forth. remember them parts are plastic lol.

Only way to tell is to check and make sure that the controller and motor is stock, then take it for a ride. If its faster than stock, you've go a high speed magnet.

Is it possible that the magnet and speed sensor could be dusty/dirty causing the symptoms of a bad sensor? The reason I ask this, in 2015 my cart was experiencing the same symptoms as this year (starts normal then goes to slow/half speed all of a sudden). I purchased the OEM speed sensor and took off the old one but cleaned and placed old back on (didn't replace with new) and the cart started working normal again. Just wondering if this is a normal issue with being kept in a cart shed over the winter. Thanks in advance.

Over an extended period of time not being used, corrosion can start to build causing the sensor to "act up". Cleaning the sensor after a long period of time of not being used is a good thing!

I replaced the magnet just as described in the video, however I have no change in speed. I was trying a new magnet after experiencing what I thought was the original magnet going bad (my speed is limited to 8mph and the cart dies not stop itself if it is pushed). Any feedback you could give would be Healy appreciated!

DIY Golf Cart I tried a new sensor, as well, but no luck. Everything else on the cart seems to work fine - could the controller that reads the speed sensor have gone bad? Or is that part of something else that would have 'broken' too??

Have you figured out your problem? My guess would be to take off the magnet, and sensor and gently clean with a wire brush and cloth the actual metal part on the motor. Then reattach and see if your speed changes. Or it could be a faulty or defective sensor or magnet. Also it could be your MCOR (Throttle Sensor) about a $200 or so Fix. If your MCOR isnt working right your controller is only thinking you want to send minimal current to the motor. which means less speed. but your symptoms do sound like a speed sensor for sure. @Gview

Added about 3-4 mph to my top speed of 12 mph which is a big gain in %. Cheap hp lol.

Speed code (code 3 to 4) changes the maximum allowed RPM to 4500. Speed magnet doubles the existing RPM limit, which would be somewhere around 3600 on speed setting 3, so it'll run 7200 RPM before it will electronically slow itself down. No need to pay $100 for code change, when $25 magnet will do better job.

Sounds like the MCOR if it’s jerking. I’ve replaced many of them for the same reasons.

From my understanding, it's a weaker magnet that doesn't pick up every single rotation of the armature in the motor. By it doing this, the controller thinks the cart is going slower and allows the motor to go faster.

That should be going to the brushes around the armature. Pull the back plate off and you can help but see where they attach.
