They were different moments from Rocky himself. Against Apollo, Rocky was the underdog, the guy with the "eye of the tiger", the guy hungry to win and show who he was. At this point, it was Clubber who was in this situation and Rocky became an accommodating boxer. That was Micky's concern.
@jaysonraphaelmurdock88126 ай бұрын
Plus Rocky and Clubber are essentially the same style. Except Lang is slightly bigger, stronger, younger and definitely hungrier. Clubber WAS a wrecking machine. But I found it hard to believe that Micky couldn’t formulate a plan to defeat a man with exactly 3 punches in his arsenal. All he did was throw left and right hooks. Occasionally an overhead left. Still, Apollo trained him up good and they slayed the dragon.
@tigerleoneinc.928210 ай бұрын
@dashing7883 - Yes I know. Clubber issued his challenge at Rocky’s Statue Unveiling/Retirement Announcement. I understand that Mickey wanted Rocky to retire. But once it was known that the fight would take place, they had plenty of time to prepare. And yes, I realize that Rocky wasn’t taking his training seriously.

@drdfilm10 ай бұрын
I would respectfully disagree to an extent .Sometimes it ain't always the formula. The truth is Rocky never gave it his all during the training. It didn't have all to do with Mickey. Remember Mickey trained him against Apollo both times. And in my opinion I think Apollo technically was a better fighter than Clubber Lang.
@tigerleoneinc.928210 ай бұрын
@@drdfilm - And I disagree. If Clubber would’ve challenged Apollo for his title, Apollo would’ve gotten destroyed just like Rocky. Remember, Apollo went toe to toe with Rocky in both fights. Even when Tony was screaming “Stick, and move!!!”, Apollo just wanted to prove that he could knock out Rocky after standing toe to toe. His pride would be his downfall. I’m sure he would’ve done the same against Clubber, whom he despised. Now if they had a rematch, maybe he would’ve danced around and dodged punches and fought smarter. But it’s a known fact that Rocky’s chin was much stronger than Apollo’s; just look at their respective fights against Drago.
@drdfilm10 ай бұрын
@@tigerleoneinc.9282 I will admit you make a great point even though I see it a bit differently. In reference to Apollo versus Ivan Drago, Apollo had been out of the ring for a good amount of time not to mention they didn't show him training or conditioning or going through any type of preparation for such a fight. I kind of see if Apollo went toe-to-toe with Clubber it would have been kind of the same as a Mike Tyson vs evander holyfield type of fight. Even though Mike Tyson was a slugger and hit much harder than evander, evander used more of the technical aspects of boxing to both outsmart Tyson and wear him down. Apollo showed ability to go the distance as he had done with Rocky in both fights. But again you make a great point and I would have to admit as far as durability Rocky had the edge over Apollo.

I hate saying this, but this movie made me despise Mickey. He loved Rocky like any father would love his son. But putting him in too much comfort zone and then screaming "IT'S OVER" when he needed his mentor the most isn't something a professional would do. At best, he could've been frank with Rock and told him to retire on a high right after he officially beat Apollo in the rematch. It's not that a retired champion still in his prime doesn't get commercial opportunities. This is where Duke gets extra points as a better trainer-manager. Minus the first film, he always kept Creed tested against THE best, something which technically proved beneficial for both.
