That really is a strange way to go about cutting someone from the roster.

Although I’m not gonna throw shade at my coach, I do question him and FO moves lately like trading away our 3rd/4th string pass rusher (Cameron Thomas) to the chiefs for peanuts?!? Pretty much our weakness this upcoming season

The optics aren't great, however a wrinkle that wasn't mentioned is the fact that the Cardinals did bring him back to the Practice Squad after the round of cuts. Through that lens, there is a lot more gray than only the two options presented in this argument; however I do concede that if your plan was the practice squad in the first place, it would have been right by your player to give them an opportunity to play and get picked up from waivers. My guess is Gannon was certain he'd make the roster in some capacity, while Monti was thinking optically about keeping an RB5, seemingly with less special teams potential, at his price point was not optimal from an active roster and especially financial standpoint. After the fact is probably when the decision was ultimately made on how to possibly retain him while keeping the roster construction efficient, which would have come after the preseason game decision. Ultimately, I agree with you that the decision to not play him was not the correct one, given hindsight, but at the same time I believe Gannon was genuine with his comments and it was more likely business optics and roster construction needs that bumped him after the fact. If it was deliberately planned that they wanted Carter on the practice squad prior to the game, then I completely agree they didn't do correct by their guy; if that was set in stone after the fact, I believe it will be more of a learning moment for young head coach Jonathan Gannon. In the end, I still feel like there is a lot more optimism with the Cardinals this season as they look for growth and maybe one more season to elevate their depth. I do believe, right now, that the Cardinals will have a 7-9 win season and continue in the right direction.

Damn Michael Carter is probably going to the Chiefs now too. 😅
