I bought and use the aamtech from him aswell works great BUT is it just me or is it a nightmare to clean up? Even when I use a small syringe and just a tiny dab to lightly coat a solder pad, after soldering I have to spend quite a bit of time with a qtip and 99.9% Isopropyl alc to get a perfectly clean streak free surface. If any remains it has that not so great chemical smell when it wafts out of my amplifier during use.

Great video as usual Jeff. Yea, that Amtech flux is some good stuff. Chipquik SMD291 is some pretty good flux as well. I don't typically use that type of paste flux for simple rework like this though. I tend to prefer flux pens due to their ease of cleanup. Unlike paste fluxes, they don't leave behind that vaseline type residue that seems to spread everywhere. They also cleanup easier with IPA. My personal favorite flux pens are the Chemtronics CircuitWorks CW8400, or the Multicore MFR301 if you can find it. But for drag soldering on fine pin pitch stuff, the Amtech or Chipquik can't be beat.
@jeffescortlx5 жыл бұрын
I have a SRA flux pen. It must not be very good, I'm convinced it's no more effective that just rubbing alcohol. The flux that's in the new solder seems more effective than that pen. But a little AMTECH makes any and all solder joints perfect, that stuff is magic.

I’ve noticed that in the winter when I use the switch push button to 4x4 it sometimes fails and gives me a service 4wd notice or red light up on switch N but I can typically cut the truck off and push the buttons and restart and be just fine. I figure the switch needs replaced or reworked. Never had one open before tho.
