Hello!😊 I have check engine light and it seems i lost 1st gear. It moves forward but i think already on a 2nd gear. And i also lost "S" mode. Forscan said "P0805 - clutch position sensor A Circuit" Delete DTC Relearn TCM Drove around fast And all good. But the next day Check engine again with the same issue and Error code. I have a 2014 ford focus auto with only 65k miles on it, but it won’t drive in reverse, and can only drive less than 10mph 😢, there’s engine light on with codes P2836, P2837 and P2837B. i’ve tried changing both the actuator A and B ordered from Amazon but it does not fix the problem😭. I’m halfway through your video and you’re not saying why you did this. Any symptoms that they need to be replaced? Any codes or slipping of what gears exactly? I’ve been going through some slipping mostly lower forward gears. Which one is for what gears or do I just replace them both ? And no reprogramming it just plug and play? Some videos say no reprogramming others yes.

Various symptoms and codes can lead to a bad actuator in diagnosis. If you suspect the actuator, you can swap locations of the upper and lower actuator, clear Codes and see if the issue transfers to the other gears. What code do you have?

I am replacing the clutch and actuators on my Focus. Do I need to use the clutch actuator reset tool or do I just drop them in like in the video? Also, do I need the clutch reset tool for a new clutch or does the clutch just drop in and done? I went ahead and ordered the actuator reset tool and clutch reset tool just in case. You don't need the reset tool for the motors, but you do to unlock the new clutch. rotate counter clockwise 10-14 times to unlock it.

Hello, I would like to know how long should a clutch actuator replacement take in labor hours? I was told it would take at least 7.5 hours. Does that sound right to you? Also, would this issue also be related to the TCM or is this completely a separate issue? Thank you!

Hi, it's separate from the tcm. The 7.5 hour is more like the labor for a clutch and fork replacement. There may be a misunderstanding with them. You can mention you're talking about the 2 motors on the outside. It shouldn't be more than 1.5 hours

I bought a ford focus 2012 recently. It has a very slight jerk or rough change between 1st and 2nd gear at very low speed say under 10mph. Normal driving is fine . Car has done 77k, the gearbox oil hasn’t been changed. Would a gearbox oil change resolve the issue or is it something more serious. Car has no fault codes. Your advice is greatly appreciated

Just replaced the clutch acuators because of a P0902 code. Backstory: Primarily slips when accelerating, when I get to about 45mph it is fine. However, the other day the rpm went to about 7-8. Replaced the aquators. Also the transmission fluid as it was needed. And it is still slipping and jerking. Does it need to be driven awhile to relearn itself? Or what are some other options to determine what the issue is. (I have not reset the code yet) Thank You!!

Hi! If you clear the code, drive it until it sets a code again. If it does. See if it's the same code. If it is, then that's a bad tcm. Free at the dealer until 2025

If you had an actuator code, and want to spend the money and make it more reliable, yeah a new OEM ford tcm & oem actuators would be great. At that point, the only thing left to fail one day would be the clutch forks

Hey.. nope you can reset them with a cheap scan tool or get forscan to clear codes. As long as the scan tool can read the code it should be able to clear it.

no need to do anything... i removed my actuator to grease the forks and i drove the car while forgot to plug it back in. got a check engine light and bunch of codes. i just plugged it back in and the engine light went away by itself after 2 days.

Missing gears, loss of engagement, flare. You can swap the upper and lower actuators to see if the issue transfers to the opposite gears. That'll help diagnose your issue. Thanks for watching!

So I changed the upper actuator, and it was great for 2 days(which I could never go that long without issue when it’s hot before changing) and then today check engine light is on and it’s skipping 1,3,5 again and getting p805 and p903. I would move the upper actuator to the lower, and lower to the upper and see if the problem transfers to the other gears to confirm a bad new actuator. which is common

I bought a 2012 focus a month ago and started noticing some shudder on acceleration between gears 1-2-3, it's almost as if I'm losing power for a moment while accelerating from a stop. I took it to a local mechanic and he told me that this could be the cause however he's so busy he doesn't have time to even take my car on board. I went ahead and ordered the parts and I'm going to swap them myself. Do you think this could be the cause of my issue? Or am I wasting my time? Side notes: Car currently has no codes, This only occurs after car has warmed up (typically) so on cold starts and at higher speeds I don't notice this issue at all.

I had suburban Ford in Waterford rebuild the transmission in 2022 and then a year later they said the clutch is failed again and replace them in April 2023. At that time, they said the TCM was good. The only recent thing I’ve done is cleaned off the three grounding straps going to the frame so they had a better connection. My son was driving today on the freeway and said the RPM gauge just revved all the way up and he was not going anywhere so he tried to shift it neutral and that did nothing when he put it back in here so then he eased off the gas and got off the next exit and that’s when he noticed reverse was also gone and I read P090C and reset the code

It's probably time for a new clutch and forks. It is possible the actuators are lazy. If you want to try those first it's definitely a good thing to freshen up

My 2016 has 28k miles and has already had forks and clutch replaced 2x in the last 6 months at a Ford service center. 1st time was apparently done with broken parts according to the tech when I took it back the next month telling them there was no chages. Right now.. the finally agreed (after repairing and retraining like 5 times) that it needs a TCM and the actuators. Howany actuators are there? Just 2? Also, is it reasonable for them to be charging me like 1500 bucks for that? It looks like I can do that myself in an afternoon if I can get the parts.

I was at roughly 106k miles when my 2018 focus started the slipping/no engagement-hi rev issue. Check engine light started after a shift at work to commute home.. In shop now waiting to hear what they claim to say problem is... Would work manageably in cold weather but anything warmer than that the worse the issues got... Dashboard flashed "tranny overheat, pull over immediate and let cool for 5 minutes" , pulled into my job and called a tow as it wouldn't even shift to a forward gear at all when starting the car again (after the 5 min wait)

Though, I did the wind back and lube at the actuator and it really seemed to help, I didn't want to risk anything with my frequent long drives that include going from about 1500 ft ASL to 7500 ft ASL over 120 miles. 2013 Fiesta with automatic transmission. Codes P0805 and P2872. When you attempt to start I can hear noises coming from transmission area that sound like its trying to shift. After noises cease car will start and run, but same noise comes and goes and car jerks a little as you drive. No leaks visible. Would bad actuators act like this?

P0805 is an electrical code for clutch actuator A. P2872 is a mechanical code for clutch A being stuck. I would turn clutch A by hand, make sure it feels smooth. Look at my video "p07a3 p07a5 diagnosis" if the clutch fork feels good, swap locations of the actuators and see if it becomes a B clutch issue. That will confirm an actuator Fault. If it stays as an A clutch code, replace the tcm. And please subscribe to help me get to 1,000 subs!

With both actuators out I still hear what sounds like the transmission is shifting back and forth when I toggle the key. The car will only start after this sequence and the key must be toggled on and off twice for it to complete the sequence. Both of the actuators spin freely and spin during this key toggling sequence. How can the trans be shifting? if the actuators are removed?

I bought 2 new OEM ford actuators as car randomly felt like it was dropping to neutral for 5 seconds here and there and got overheat message once high speed on highway. replaced the bottom one first (B), reverse works fine but I now get grinding when shifting around 35mph and again around 60mph, swapped to 2nd new actuator, and even old one but same thing. I somehow have made the problem worse as I never had grinding previously and going back to old part doesn't get me back to where I was. No codes, any suggestions?

That fork should feel butter-smooth when rotating by hand. And it should release nearly instantly when you let go. If it feels rough or takes a lot effort to turn, that's enough to heat the clutch up. Best bet would be to replace the forks and clutch. Thank you for watching.

So I have a 2016 SE Focus automatic that shows a P0809 error A circuit. It shift into reverse fine but forward gears it seems like it’s starts off in 3rd gear. You really have to give it gas for it to move forward. Could these solenoids be the issues? Which one is responsible for the reverse gear? Or is it best just to replace both.

Probably a bad upper clutch actuator. But to be sure, you can swap the 2 motors and see if the code switches to the B actuator

Which one is a? I consistently get p903 and p805 which are both “a” related. And when the light is on and won’t clear it goes 2,4,6. It’s also much worse when it’s warm or hot, I go pretty much all winter with it only happening a few times. Any thoughts?

Blue driver indicated B clutch stuck, I swapped A & B, cleared the codes & re-scan, now the P2872 (clutch is stuck engaged) is on A. Often but not always I would hear servo motors under the hood long after the car was off, I suspect now that was the actuators.

Hi, what do mean by recondition the tcm? You can swap locations of the upper and lower actuators, clear codes and drive it, see if it switches to a P0902 or stays a P090C. If it stays a p090 then replace the TCM. If it switches to a p0902 then replace both actuators

We switched A(top) with B (bottom) actuator, cleared the code, drove and rechecked the code once the engine light reappeared. We got the same code P090C B . Videos said if you get the same code it indicates internal transmission issue....?? Any accuracy or suggestion on the next step? Yes, actuator B is underneath. You may have a tcm issue, though (free at the dealer through 2025). You can swap positions of the actuators from the top and bottom and if the code stays the same it's a bad tcm

Swap actuator A and B positions and see if the code switches to the A clutch. Replace the actuator if it switches. Replace the tcm if not

I switched bottom to top and got the code go from B to a. Replaced the messed up actuator. Every time the key is in the on position all I hear is a clicking noise. Anything else I can check out before I burn money

I am getting the p07A3,p07A2,P090C codes I have moved the clutch actuators they both spin fine and spring back when I release. the vehicle will go in reverse with fethering the gas but fwd I got it to move a little but quit so i didn't cause any damage. Plus I am getting a transmission hot fault to on the screen inside the car after it has warmed up. Any Help is appreciated

I think you need a clutch and fork job, inspect for fluid contamination of the clutch. And for p090c thats separate. You can swap actuators A and B to see if it changes from p090c to p0902 to confirm actuator failure. If it stays p090c replace the tcm

That could be a sticking clutch fork. Check out my video for p07a3 p07a5 diagnosis to learn how to check the forks. And I have a video for replacing the clutch and forks, and Trans removal. Doing it yourself will save thousands in labor

Hi.. My ford Eco sport gives following error codes, P0902:00-A8 Clutch A Actuator Control Circuit Low, P0700:00-2F Transmission Control System - MIL Request While driving, sometimes the RPM goes high w/o speed increase..followed by engine light and then back to normal. Eco sport has same engine like this. If i replace the A actuator will it solve both codes?? What are your views?? Thanks for the video!😊

You're welcome! I've never seen an ecosport with the dual clutch transmission here in the states! Either way, that's either a bad tcm or bad clutch Actuator. You can either replace the upper actuator, or swap positions with the lower actuator and see if the code switches to a P090c (which would tell you the actuator is bad)

Hi, that's most likely the tcm malfunctioning. The shift fork motors are the 2 motors on the tcm. The clutch fork actuators are what's in the video. Hope this helps!

Clutch A is for 1, 3 and 5. Clutch B does reverse, 2 4 6

Those codes indicate either a Tcm problem or an actuator problem. If you swap the upper and lower actuators and the codes switch to a p090c then it's a bad actuator
