I just did this. This is a great guide, but I'd like to add a few tips. I would add that at least for a 2010 V6, you do NOT need to remove the exhaust. We removed the O2 sensors only, and had no clearance issues. Driveshaft bolts (12mm, 12 point) are typically installed with locktite red, which must be heated to release. Butane torches are warranted for driveshaft bolts. Once heated, they release easily. I also did not disconnect the starter wiring. It can be tucked up into the suspension until you're ready to reinstall. The hydraulic clip can be tricky. Pic tools are the best way to go. It removes toward the driver's door. Put your finger on it and press against the pick, or it will likely go flying across the garage once it releases (ask me how I know). We had a hard time getting the new hydraulic line to come out far enough to recoup the hydraulic line on. Ended up grabbing it with pliers and pulling it through farther (careful with the O ring). That proved effective. Be very careful with the shifter bolts. They are cheap pot metal and shear easily. Always use penetrating oil first. That linkage is no longer made and is expensive if you can find it on Ebay. Note nearly every bolt is metric EXCEPT the flywheel bolts. They are 3/8". If you try to use a 10mm, you'll likely strip it (one of the few mistakes I didn't make).

You sir just made my life soo much easier. Thank you!! Also little tip, I recognize you were probably being generic on purpose since not everybody has this car. However since you titled it as a clutch replacement for all 05-09 Mustang GT’s specifically, I wish the torque specs and nut/bolt/socket sizes would’ve been mentioned as you went along. Thanks🤗

Great how-to. Glad I stumbled across this video while trying to find the 'rear main seal replacement' process for my 2006 Expedition 5.4. I only stopped on this 'Mustang' video because the end of this engine is EXACTLY the same as my '06 Expedition 5.4. You could add "2006 Ford Expedition 5.4" to your video so it will show when someone searches for this for their Expedition. Thank you.

Thanks for this video. I would not have been able to do this repair without it. Just back from test driving my Mustang (2005 v6) and car works great again. Sections of the video were different (ex. starter on drivers side held in with 2 bolts). I used four 3-ton jack stands. I did not have to remove any part of the exhaust (except 02 sensors). It did make getting the upper two bolts on the transmission a little bit more difficult. I needed a friend to get the transmission on the transmission jack because we had to put it on the jack under the car.

We didn't remove the entire exhaust as themiddleclamps were quite seized, but had unhook both of the Cat.Converters and pushed the aside, as well as the 02 Sensors. The clutch was not slipping at all, only the shiffting got really hard, but ours surprise the old clutch it was ripped apart and split intn two pieaces Cheers

In the middle of this job now on my 2006 Mustang GT. I have fitted the transmission in and taken it back out twice now because while we get the input shaft lined up and through the clutch, there is still about 3/4" before it meets the back of the block. We can't manually push it any closer. I suspect it is simply the hydraulic throwout bearing that is preventing us from manually pushing it the rest of the way. (?) Should I just use the bellhousing bolts to pull it in the rest of the way?

While this is a great install and I will be using it when I go to do my 2006 Mustang V6 repairs, he makes a lot of oversights. When you remove the pilot bearing, do it BEOFRE installing your brand new shiny flywheel, as any mishap in this stage could gouge your new flywheel and set you back a lot of money and steps. Also there is no reason not to put the guide into the clutch before installing the clutch and pressure plate, this will make alignment much easier. Finally when installing the transmission back into the engine DO NOT use the bolts to tighten the gap. Make sure the transmission is flush with the engine block BEFORE installing the bolts to ensure no warping of the ALUMINUM transmission case.

Great video with awesome instructions. I’m currently waiting on an exedy stage III clutch with TOB and lightweight flywheel so I can perform the job on my 2007 GT. One question I have though, does it matter what gear I have the transmission in when I disconnect the linkage or does it not matter as long as it stays the same for when I reconnect it? Let me know :) this video made what I thought was a very difficult job seem fairly simple and straightforward. Once I get parts and a set of socket extensions, It’ll be time to do the install. Will come back for an update if I remember. Thank you!

Thanks for the vid very helpful any suggestions on where to find all the tq specs and use of loctite?

***** Google search for your torque specs and you can also use loctite on the flywheel bolts. Not needed if you tighten properly. Thanks for the comment. Please subscribe if you have not already.

Awesome video! Quick question: Do you prime the throwout bearing with hydraulic fluid to prevent air bubbles or do you just connect the line to it? Thanks
@2carpros
@2carpros 8 жыл бұрын
+Dano Vido Just connect the line and pump the pedal, the system is self bleeding.

My 05 has only been in snow the last 3 years but what a mess underneath compared to this video. Don't think I can get the hot wire off the starter without breaking the stud.

Good video, everything you did looked good to me. I just had a question about using the type of silicone you were using in this video. This was the first time I have seen somebody use the type of silicone that you would find in a home depot for windows and doors (GE brand rain ready). I have only ever seen somebody use the RTV you buy at the autopart store. It never crossed my mind that you could even use that stuff instead. I suppose that stuff works exactly the same as RTV. Also, I am sure the price of that big tube of silicone cost much less than the little tube of rtv you find at the autoparts store (that stuff is expensive). If this stuff works the same I will have to start using that in the future just because I know it is a lot cheaper. Well thanks for the great video. I will be subscribing to your channel.

So do i need to drain oil? I'm at the point i just got my flywheel off. Swapping TR3650 to the Magnum 6 speed. Replacing pilot not sure if i'm going to tackle rear main seal. I wish i had a Lift for my Mustang looks like it made everything a lot easier. i did invest in the Race ramp car blocks and damn it did help with the height.

Justin Bennett No need to drain the oil, ya the lift does make this repair and filming a lot easier but can still be done on the ground. Please subscribe if you have not already.

When you were dropping the transmission I noticed you had it tilted, perhaps to clear the clutch assembly? Did you have trouble making clearance in order to drop the transmission and if so, got any tips?? Thanks!!

The biggest mistake is a pinched wiring harness at the block and transmisson. Please note that you need to be careful and make sure the harness is pulled up over the engine and NOT get pinched. I made this mistake and the car went into limp mode and sending codes P102, P0135, P0141, P0155, P0161, P0403, P0443, PO0446 and P1489. Do not be fooled into buying all new sensors to fix the problem. Fuse 49 will be blown when there is a short in the wiring harness.

great video, about to start the same job. I do not have the clutch centering tool, can you get away with out it?
@Dogboy1960
@Dogboy1960 8 жыл бұрын
+Matthew Thomson Yes and No!.... You don't have to have it.......you could "eyeball" he whole thing to center.....but it's a hassle .....we're a long way from aluminum case 4 speeds on guy could push into place....this a much heavier transmission and you only want to raise it and push it "home" one time......the first time......so I simply would do it without the tool. If your clutch didn't come with the tool......universal centering tools can be bough for really small change at any auto parts store.

Hey what clutch kit did you use for this install? Did you have to shim the slave cylender for an aftermarket clutch? I'm worried that the gap won't be correct with an aftermarket clutch and a resurfaced flywheel.
