How to deactivate the clutch safety switch on a Toyota Corolla (manual transmission of course). Can help you if your car does not want to start. Could be a bad switch and you can Bypass it. Do it at your own risk, I definitely wouldn't recommend you to do this trick if you are not an experienced driver on manual transmissions. But if you have years of experience driving manuals, you'll find more pros than cons on doing this. I am pretty sure this same trick would work on any Toyota manual transmission

Thanks Miquel. You just helped me figure out why my daughter's car would not start. The dirt mat was bunched under the safety switch and your video clued me in to what was wrong.

Clutch won't disengage - No safety switch on older cars came in handy when the clutch was stuck while engaged. Just put it 1st (Or reverse) and off you go. Then you can change gears by matching the engine revoutiuions to the gear & speed while putting just a little pressure on the gear shift until it pops in. That has come in handy a couple of times for me. My grandfather born on the farm in the 1890's was telling me about how his clutch wore out so he poured molasses on it and got it stuck. Then he could drive it. .

Thank you. My switch is faulty or something and I've been having problems starting it with the clutch pushed in in the cold. I also sleep in the back of this and don't want to have to get in the front seat in order to turn the car on. I'll try this

Well my reason is: I don't like this NEW CAR STYLE! I like the way it used to be, no NEED to have the clutch depressed to start the car, just "DUHHH"> Make sure the damned Brake is on and it 's out of gear! > Thanks so much!
@migueljuarez6217

There ya go! 100% agree. We're smart enough to ensure the transmission is in neutral, without having to keep the clutch depressed every time the engine needs to be started!

I also have an injured left ankle and this clutch design in these cars you have to press them so hard to get them to start it can be really painful I was using my right leg for a while. Once it's running though you don't have to press the clutch so hard to shift gears. Just for that starter.
@migueljuarez6217
@migueljuarez6217 4 жыл бұрын
True that. Having to press down the clutch every time just to start he car is really annoying when having an injured ankle. Just as long as one remembers to have the car in Neutral when starting it up, all is fine. I make sure to have the hand break on also, just in case I forget to switch to neutral

Thanks Miguel! I just bought a 2008 Toyota Corolla LE manual last week with 65,000 miles on it in the USA. I have a 1998 Volvo S 70 T5M that is a 5 sp as well. It has no clutch switch. One huge advantage of this is, if your car ever stalls out in water going say over a flooded road. You can literally put the car in 1st gear, and bump the starter for three sec intervals. The starter motor will crawl you ahead with each bump of the ignition. When you get to the other side, you can start it up and take off. Try that with an automatic! A la gran puta! jajajaja!

jajaja You got it! In a situation like the one you just described, having a manual transmission with no clutch switch (or bypassed switch) could even save your life! or at least it can put you in a much easier to handle situation. I really liked your comment, we never know when we could find ourselves in a situation like that!

@@migueljuarez6217 my 1998 Volvo S 70 has a clutch like that already. I can literally hit the key when it is in 1st with no foot on the brake. Not only will it jump forward, it will start running and keep going slowly down the street! So the downside of deleting the clutch switch, might be your car going through your garage wall if you forget to depress the clutch when you start it! lolo!

Cool -- I wonder, does keeping the circuit closed create a parasitic power drain?
@migueljuarez6217
@migueljuarez6217 5 жыл бұрын
Hey there; I had this car for about 3 years and never replaced the battery while I had it, so I think it doesn't create a power drain, or at least not a noticeable one that could create an issue

hello Miguel. my 2004 corolla clutch pedal is not engaging. I'm thinking something loose. at this point I'm stuck in neutral cuz in order to switch from one gear to the next I have to depress the clutch pedal every time. is there a bypass for this?
@migueljuarez6217
@migueljuarez6217 7 жыл бұрын
ask first Hello there. I'm afraid I won't be able to help or give a reliable opinion, the only thing that comes to my mind is that the clutch has worn out to the point it's not being able to engage gears as it's too worn, it's not reaching the point of zero revs when it's pressed. Try going to a mechanic and please keep us posted so we know what it was. thanks!

Thanks. So what I noticed was there was a lot of fluid around the slave cylinder area. I refilled the fluid chamber, cleared air out of the line and it looks like I'm good to go.

ask first Good deal, just keep a close eye on it to see how bad the leak is, it could only be a small leak that would let very few liquid over the years but it might as well be a new big leak. Good luck!

jumper....i suspect this is why my car won't start. Jumpering that out of the circuit helps to eliminate that as an issue.

Just what I was looking for but you blocked the actual location of the plug from the camera. I do have a better idea of what to look for in my Camry. I plan to spray the button (if my car has one) with WD-40 before doing the bypass. I may also attempt to remove, clean, apply dielectric grease and re-assemble if feasible. Anyway thanks for the info.

just as an aside, if you do this, it will also disable cruise control.

Whiskeyfox Thanks for the info. Mine doesn't have cruise control but I'm sure many other people's does
@El_Chompo
@El_Chompo 4 жыл бұрын
You could wire it to a switch or press button if you wanted to maintain your cruise control ability. Then you just press the button or flip the switch when starting the car, and after it's started the button isn't pressed anymore or you can unflip the switch. If you were really handy with wiring you could wire it to the hot crank signal wire in the ignition so that when it sent out a voltage to the ECU to ask it to start the car, it also sent voltage to that clutch switch to turn it on.

@@El_ChompoThe issue with my car is it won't always start when depressing the clutch pedal. Was thinking one could just relocate that switch to within arm's length when starting (in dash, obviously, unless one wanted an extra measure of anti-theft security by hiding it out of sight, though still finger accessible). IOW, just push in OE switch with finger.
