Clutchless downshifting is much harder on the transmission, it's not the engine that gets damaged. Clutchless upshifting is totally okay and easy to get the hang of.

Clutchless downshifting is doing the same thing as an autoblipper, which come on some bikes from factory with warranty. As long as they is no meaningful amount of torque on drivetrain, as in acceleration or engine braking, the gears will change easily. If there is a meaningful amount of torque on the drivetrain, you either need to clutch, blip, or chop throttle, if you dont clutch and try to force a shift you could bend shift forks. Clutchless, up or down, puts more strain on gearbox due to the engine inertia. Because of this a slow revving/high inertia engine like a big cruiser will not appreciate clutchless shifting as much, it is going to be harder/more clunky than a fast revving dirtbike or sportbike.

Clutchless up-shifting is fine with any transmission or engine, I learned on a dump truck / semi. Down shifting on an in-line 4 can be done, by experienced riders only, and should not become common practice. Moto GP riders use the clutch, while down shifting, from beginner to top tier levels of competition. A clutch pad is meant to wear out, it preserves both the transmission and engine, it is a wear part.

It does work with all motorcycles, have a cb500 with a vtwin works like a charm. I was just wondering if downshifts are bad. Because it made no sense how to rev up while still in gear

Like all things, if done right, clutchless downshifting isn't bad. In the video, I should've streesed that even though it can be done, it doesn't mean they should be done. It requires so much finesse, cause like you said, how do you get the rev's up while in gear. But to answer your question, you still rev, but need enough front brake to keep you from accelerating.

Upshifts are so easy to do, ofc the downshifts are the tricky ones

@@mindaugasluksas4862 I got it pretty easily after I tried for a little. It helps to be good at rev matching downshifts quickly with the clutch first. Then just give it the same amount of throttle that you would with the clutch and at that exact moment press the shifter down

If you want to keep your clutch disc's to not wear out so quickly I would recommend you not do this. There's a reason there is a clutch lever

@@Master_Yoshi @nug4058 actually most people don't even know how to use their clutch either, so by letting it go suuuuper slow and smooth the plates are just grinding up anyways. And I'm sure the same amount of wear and tear happens or even less when you do it clutchless. Clutchless is a fraction of a second, and changing with a clutch does take a bit more time.

No sir, the throttle is closed. Roll the throttle all they way forward, and shift immediately after. For it to work smoothly, there needs to be no load on the transmission. if you're still on the throttle, there is still load.

Technically the order is cut the throttle, then shift. It's so shortly after that it almost feels simultaneous, but it won't shift unless the throttle is closed.

Did you hear about the IRC electro mechanical autoblipper ? It can make our bikes blip and quick shift although we dont have fly by wire throttle
