Yes, and clutter can also impact your relationship. I had so much stuff to the point where it was literally filling up all our spaces and my husband was getting frustrated and we were bickering over clutter.

I find clutter in my home stresses me so much! The overwhelm kicks in really fast if I've allowed it to happen. I get teased about the minimalist or neat state I keep my home in, but it genuinely affects my mental health if I have too much stuff in my line of sight. I appreciate the heck out if this video. Also, appreciated the humor in it 😂

The dust issue is so real! I finally got an official confirmation last year that I'm very allergic to dust mites and that's what finally got me to prioritize clearing out my stuff. I've also been trying to keep any new decor and organizing items to less porous materials (avoiding cardboard, fabric) that are easy to clean and that has been helpful as well.

Yes. This is me right now. That is what is affecting my sleep. I have been decluttering and decluttering as much as I can. And it is not that bad, but bad enough to affect my mood, my sleep. The clutter has come into my room after clearing out other spaces. Other persons clutter has come into my room, because they don't want it back in their space and are unable to declutter it. So, I am decluttering and trying to do it for someone else, my Mom. And when I am trying to declutter or move something until I can find a place for it, I put it where I had just decluttered, and she gets upset. Self depreciating and yes, clutter does cause my procrastination. Everything Kay you have said, yes! 😢 I know you did not make this video to make us feel sad. But it is the truth, I feel it. Physically mentally emotionally. It's not that bad in my home, I am almost there. It is the paper 📃 clutter that I am tackling now. I have come a long way. But I like this. And I knew it. Thank you, I wish you still did this for the public. Come and help us declutter. But thanks for the video. I am going to save it for later, too.❤

Clutter really is a hazard if it’s blocking access to crucial things like HVAC systems and appliances. It can be a tripping hazard, especially for older people. And piles of stuff can conceal serious problems, like leaks, pests, mold, etc. And it can cost money-everything from unpaid bills to buying things you already have. My own threshold is when I realize I’m beginning to use flat surfaces, like the floor, as improvised storage space. That’s usually because all the places designed for storage-cabinets, closets, shelves-are full of things I don’t use. So I’ll declutter storage spaces and use them for things I actually need/ want and am currently getting use out of. It helps keep my condo from turning into a giant storage pod.

I haven’t wanted to clean mine since my husband bought a mismatched one to the one I have. So even if mine was cleared it’d still bother me them not being the same lol (I have the old one and he got a new one) we bought a new house and some new furniture. 1/2 is old and 1/2 is new.

Gotta have those night-vision goggles! 😉 ❤ Clutter affects me for sure! And 99.9% of it is clutter from my daughter and husband. I try real hard to not touch their things but will pickup after them at times for my own sanity! 😅 I’m hoping my own cleaning up and decluttering efforts will rub off on them 😊. My daughter does chores now so I see things moving in the right direction with her. She sees me declutter and will join in with her own stuff to donate. Great content, Kay!

Such good reminders!!!! I can see hoarding tendancies in myself so I'm always trying to catch myself before it gets too bad. That tendancy comes out when I'm really stressed. I dont mind messy areas, but when that pile of clothes on the corner of the bed gets to be too high, It's time to do something abt it. LOVE your channel!

Always such a joy to see your bright, pretty face! My issue is: I live alone in a tiny studio flat, it really is my workspace, in which I have a 3/4 bed, a bathroom and a nod to a kitchen. The rest is dedicated to my professional art, calligraphy, singing and piano playing. I have tried for three years now to tame it all - the most difficult is to reduce studio clutter, as clients will bring in boxes of stationery blanks (envelopes, cards, certificates) by the boxful, and inevitably, they have to stand on the floor in front of my book case. I saw the drawers at the base of this bookcase 3 years ago, when I moved in! The studio is dynamic, due to the diverse number of projects I take on, on a freelance basis - I need to cover my rent, utilities and food. (I have no pension, due to you-know-what-in-2020) But, I am very determined to slay the dragon this year! Some items I never use, so out with them; then perhaps most of the client clutter (apologies, dear folks) can go into file cabinet drawers. Apart from not having the money for any bought storage containers, we do not have Dollar Store or Container Store down here in South Africa. I have to work with what I have, and I have become rather adept at turning bog standard cardboard boxes into beautiful French Provencal baskets! But I really am over all the stuff standing here, glaring at me accusingly - REALLY? Watch my dust as I determinedly do a huge tosseroory!!!

It can be weird. I grew up in a family where we bought each other things all the time and the house was always cluttered; I thought it was normal and was even comforted by it. Now my BF and I are decluttering and opening more space and it feels so different, almost vacant in a way.

I would love to say that my home is cluttered. I don't live in clutter, I exist in a tornado destroyed trash pile that my dog and I have created without having enough space to start sorting through things without making it worse and/ finding a critter bomb each time a box is moved an inch. My friend offered to pay for my dog to board for a week, if I can take that time from work to spend as a full-time cleaner of my own home. She even recommended I attack with toxic chemicals and stay at my mom's for that week so I can at least sleep away from it but still get in the work and air things out during the day. We're making plans for when the weather will be appropriate for it.

Great advice. There’s one part of my kitchen worktops that is in a mess, mainly with things that I need to buy such as lightbulbs. What I’m going to do is take pictures of them & then thrown them away. This part will now be tidy. You mentioned storage units in your video. Are they a big thing in the US, if so are they expensive?

Do you have any tips on knick knack shelves? The workable spaces in my home are pretty clear, but I have wall shelves that are filled with things I collected over the past 30 years. I don't necessarily want to declutter everything on them but they are very crammed with sentimental items and gifts that makes cleaning them a nightmare. I know items aren't people but I'm kind of at a loss...

Great video, thank you Kay. I used to work at a hospital microbiology lab and one of the worst types of samples to deal with was sputum samples 🫢 I agree about the importance of having a 'zen' space to sleep in, it's the reason I've never had a TV in my room and these days I also don't have a clock either. Loved 'editing Kay' commenting on your analogy 😁
