I wish someone had told me this when I became a Mom. I spent so much time trying to do it all while working full time. I was always stressed. In retrospect, I wish I had enjoyed those moment more because it goes by so quickly.

Being open to adjustments can be so helpful for our mental wellbeing and how we define our success vs failure. My teens used to throw clean clothes in the laundry until they started doing their own laundry. Teaching our kids life skills can help them with independence and save us work. My kids are now young adults living on their own, and they appreciate that they have those life skills.

I, at age 69, finally have “grown-up” furniture in my house. My beautiful white sectional gets draped with flannel Christmas sheets when my daughter and son in law come with their 2 very large dogs. When they leave, the sheets get washed, folded, put away. I love the fun and chaos we have for a few days. And I love the serenity that follows afterwards. I love your channel!

Cass - I think that you would be proud of me. I had a donation box and a scheduled pickup the next day, but the box was half-full. I actually walked around the house looking for things that I wasn't using that maybe others could use. I filled the box with things that made me feel good because I knew that it would help someone. I also threw out some older nightgowns and random junk that I was pretty sure no one would want, and in the process, stuff left!

Teenagers need to learn to do their own laundry! It is one of those life skills they should have. Also cooking a few meals is a good skill to have. Sending kids out into the world without these skills is doing them a disservice. ❤

Love this advice! One more thing to ad that works in my house: to keep our sofa clean, the dog is not allowed on the furniture. She has her own bed in our living room, and one in the screened in porch (we're in North Carolina). She knows the rule and doesn't even try to jump on the furniture.

Love my Dyson. We use qvc to buy because we can pay in installments. We could pay in full, I’m not going into debt for a vacuum, but it takes the sting out a bit. I agree, I have a 2 cabinets of cleaning supplies. I now just keep dawn and h20 in a glass bottle and have one in each bathroom and the kitchen to use.

I try to be minimalist with my personal possessions, there's no helping the rest of the household! 😂 I am the complete opposite with my garden though, I NEED ALL plants!😂 I NEED the space I see when I wake up to be clean and tidy, and the washing up from the previous day to be done (it doesn't need to be dry and put away, I can do that the next morning, but my counters need to be clean and clear, ready for the next meal to be prepared.)

I am a vacuum junkie and have two uprights and two Roombas. My attitude is that these are critical power tools that are used at least three times a week. If my husband wanted a power tool that he could use that often, I would not hesitate to make sure he had it. By the way, my shark upright was not expensive, but it is hands-down better than my Dyson.

I just put 3 loads of laundry away while listening. Finally I understand why a regular vacuuming schedule will improve my life! As a back story, when my working mom assigned chores in the 1960's girls vacuumed and boys burned the trash. Vacuuming always seemed like a life sentence. Now I live with my retired husband who vacuums "middles" on weekends, a big fluffy white dog, and a ginger short haired cat. I have just added detail vacuuming this week's zone (ala Fly Lady) in my weekly home blessing. With your thoughts about vacuuming reducing dust, I will embrace the self care. Thank you. BTW, any chance you could interview Fly Lady? She is now empty nested, has a mental health (depression) back story, and is such a huge presence in home making coaching. I found her via a print magazine 20 years ago when I was a working mom with 3 children and a still employed husband, one dog, and two cats. It was her "you can do anything for fifteen minutes" that literally led me to be successful at home and at work. Every generation has their voice, Marla Cilly is a wonderful voice for us Boomers. 🎉 BTW, I really appreciate your openess on ADHD and alternative intelligences. Love it!

I love all the podcasts and have learned so much in this group. But, I would like to see/hear a few more podcasts where older adults are being interviewed. For instance, guidance for those of us who are married or widowed, have grown children no longer in the home, don't have as many family responsibilities, maybe we are retired or semi-retired, etc. Can we get more of that guidance? Or is it already done, but I just haven't seen it? tia

Used to have tons of cleaning products. Now I've decluttered them (gave away, used up, or tossed)!🎉... White vinegar is the BEST- & adding a bit of Dawn dish soap or baking soda to tough stains is so simple. I still am in awe of vinegar & all its uses: cuts grease, kills mold & keeps it away, cleans glass & mirrors, & the list goes on❤😁

Are the stick vacuums lighter? I have health issues and my husband does the vacuuming, because if I do it, I am recovering for days. We vacuum once a week to keep the pet hair and dander manageable. We really should dust more often. Saturdays are either rest days or activity days. Sundays are chore days. We tidy, clean, and depending on time of year do gardening. I struggle with cleaning daily because I am SO EXHAUSTED after working and commuting for 12 hours 4 or 5 days a week. Passover is coming. I am looking forward to cleaning out our pantry and kitchen!

If you can, get a robot vacuum cleaner but it must have the tower for the robot to frequently empty the dust into as it will need constant emptying if you don’t. I also have a robot mop and it’s brilliant. It’s the best money you’ll ever spend.

I switched to a lighter stick vacuum for the same reason. The cordless, battery operated is definitely lighter than a normal corded vac. I have a tineco from Walmart. I love it. All the weight is by the battery pack, but it's not too bad. I can do the whole house without issue.

In my experience, robot vacuum usually can't reach the corner of the room as well as stick vacuum. We needed to still vacuum at least twice a month. We can use stick vacuum to clean other things too, like the sofa. Many also has extra extensions like handheld vacuum and wet plus dry vacuum function.

If you have family/friends who use those products, giving the ones you no longer want away to them means they don't need to buy more when they run out. If they are nearly empty make the effort to use them up. Advertise full bottles of product which you don't like for whatever reason on free sites - there's usually someone who'll appreciate not having to buy cleaning supplies.
