Thank you so much for this program I remember Mr. Clyde McPhatter. He appeared in Cleveland ,Ohio at a club named the MUSIC BOX. he was excellent . I worked at one time with the Smokey Robinson and The Miracles. I will never forget Smokey talking about going to the FOX THEATER in DETROIT MICH. He stated that seeing him inspired their efforts.

My mom loved her some Clyde McPhatter when he did A Lover’s Question. She wore that 45 out among others. He was immensely talented and good looking 👑❤️

Amazing how drastically music changed from 1959 to 1970. How many singers survived that transition? Not many I'll bet....

Some could transition, many couldn't unfortunately.

Clyde McPhatter needed to have a strong supportive base with proper management he might have made it many more years. Let’s face it he was a very talented artist and handsome. This was a very thorough biography. He really needed some mental health care.

I was truly a fan of Clyde McPhatter. I loved his music and I still do today. I wrote to him twice and I received a response to both. I still have one but I'm not sure where the other is.

you donnot tell about the origin of the second group (the drifters) with Ben E. King. where and how was that group started? I heard they wrer discovered at the Apollo, and they had some other name. they was not called the drifters at that time...

He must have suffered from some medical depression for him to think that his fans didn't appreciate him! Other than getting that stamp , he could have lived to get his "flowers" as they say.

Rock legend Gene Pitney credited Mr McPhatter as his inspiration and modeled his style after Clyde. Check out the great Bobby Darin playing piano for Clyde--it's on You Tube. A heartfelt shout out to my late cousin Mickey. When he was alive I went to visit him and his lovely wife Tania. We went looking thru his vast record collection and three 78's popped up: LaVern Baker's TWEEDLEE DEE, Louis Armstrong's WHEN IT'S SLEEPYTIME DOWN SOUTH and Clyde McPhatter's LONG, LONELY NIGHTS. Mickey told me he didn't have a turntable that played 78 records and when I said that I did, he handed the discs to me and said, "Enjoy!" I still have them.

Knowing how Clyde died and his struggle with alcoholism & depression makes his song “Little Bit of Sunshine” a lil painful to listen to (although I still love it). 😢

I’d always said to myself, if only Clyde had been picked up by Motown. Even though he was 8-10 years older than the rest of them I feel like he would’ve been great as a replacement for Eddie Kendricks in the Temptations or even just as a solo artist.
@JaySmith-mz7vg3 жыл бұрын
I couldn't imagine him joining another group lol at all. & Motown was absolutely horrible at promoting male solo acts, especially in the 60's
