In this Chevy SSR tech tip video, I show you how to perform the HVAC blend door calibration procedure. You will need to perform this procedure if you've replaced a blend door actuator. This procedure should automatically run after the vehicle battery has been disconnect / reconnected

The act of performing the relearn procedure causes the learned positions to be saved.

What position did you put the farthest right knob in before starting the procedure

There is no required position for the knobs before performing this procedure. I did have the right most know in the floor/dash position (2nd position).

HI ROBERT, just purchased a 2004 5.3 when i press the air circulation button , it starts clicking on the passenger side dash?

There is an electric motor based blend door actuator for the fresh/recirc part of the HVAC system. A common failure of that actuator is that one or more of the teeth on the plastic gear break off. That results in the "clicking" noise you're hearing. It is a very time/labor intensive process to replace the blend door actuator in the SSR. A large amount of the dashboard must be removed to gain access to this item to replace it. Not a great design. If you check on the SSRFanatic website searching for "blend door actuator replacement" you should find a few threads that discuss this topic. Some owners have chosen to disconnect the electrical connector to this item to prevent the noise from occurring, but you've lost control of what position the HVAC blend door is in. I wish I had a better/cheaper/easier answer for you. The part itself is only $40 to $60 USD, it's the labor involved to get it replaced that is the big problem.

Hi Robert, Could you please help me with a part number for 2004 Chevy SSR HVAC the one you showed in (Chevy SSR - HVAC Blend Door Calibration) video i got the same its defective i would like to order number so needed the part number.

The HVAC control units are somewhat difficult to find at this time. GM: 15230831 ACDelco: 15-73325

The best I can suggest is check Wild Bill's SSR Parts or a wrecking yard. Wild Bill's has part listing for that unit (used) but it says to call for price/availability. ssr-parts.com/Used-Heater-Control-Unit-P209.aspx

@retrocarguy530 this is great, but what does this fix? I know i have a blend door flapping back and forth in my system driving me nuts. Will this fix that?

This procedure will make the HVAC control module learn the extremes of travel range for the blend doors. I believe what you're stating as the "blend door flapping back and forth" is very likely a blend door actuator gear with a broken tooth causing the "click, click, click" noise. If it's the typical blend door gear problem, the actuator is located far up on the top/front of the HVAC unit in the cab. It's a bear to replace. Some will simply disconnect the wire connector to the unit, but it will leave the blend door in that position.

The problem originates from the fact the gear on the blend door actuator and the blend door side are made of plastic. Usually, one of the gear teeth on the blend door actuator breaks off. That large tooth gap on that gear is where the other gear skips making the clicking/thumping noise.
