Fantastic journalism. Our city needs a lot of help in this recovery. Luckily, though unsurprisingly, its citizens are helping one another through this natural disaster. Good on you, Brisbane.

I used to live on Land Street and work at the Regatta. So sad. I now live one street above where those guys were Jet-Skiing. Thanks for showing us a "ground/water level view of the situation. Seeing it from a chopper really doesn't give the impact that this footage has. Thank you.

What strikes me about the video is, although there is spooky disaster music in the background, the vibe of the people is undeniably upbeat. This, I believe, is what shows their incredible resilience and will allow them to bounce back relatively quickly. Yeh!

@jewlzben it was nearly empty last year, it was designed to lessen the flood impact in brisbane, the dam rose 3 meters in 1 day - the day toowoomba got flooded. Imagine if that went straight to brisbane.

I'm in Queensland and the devestation is just unbelievable. Lives have been lost, others have had their lifes possessions, homes/businesses, photographs destoyed. They have to spend the next year cleaning out, fighting insurance companies and if they can, then rebuild. Every families story is different but the whole thing effects everybody in Aus and if I can help out at all - I'll be doing that through the premiers appeal. Regardless of what the tv stations are doing.

the australian government needs to get their act together, they've put billions of dollars into helping other countries out of their disasters, and can only pull together 1 million for their own country. it's amazing how strong these guys are being, their resilience is what is going to get them back on their feet. all i can say is global warming is clearly catching up to us.

@mYOzZyKaT the people that died were killed in an inland tsunami in the Lockyer Valley and Toowoomba and Murphys Creek, they were not killed in Brisbane where people had time to get out and get ready for the floods. The people that were killed were killed because of 150mm of rain falling within half an hour.

Great video. To see it from ground (or river) level is different than air shots or from where I am. I can see UQ and Toowong but buildings and trees block the damage just beyond the river bank. Luckily the water is now receding.

@mYOzZyKaT but the areas where people died were not subject to flooding. every country builds in places that might flood, i live on a lagoon. but its the fact that it was a WALL of water, not flash flooding, a wall of water just like a tsunami, but without the warnings. it plowed through the lockyer valley destroying everything in its path, and unfortuantatle, killing some people.

@Bandtx I think there's a few different ways 'garage' is pronounced, depending on where you're originally from (even within Australia). I have an English friend who pronounces the first 'a' as in 'hat', and the second 'a' a bit like 'i' (as in 'fridge'....although maybe a little softer). Some people pronounce it 'guh-rarj', and some say 'ga-rarj' : )

What about the bull sharks in the Brisbane River..? They rely on the usually mirky water to find food (anything that basically moves..). Surely they are another hazard to the people of Brisbane and surrounding areas now the water is so high in residential suburbs..? Good luck to all Queenslanders...

Folks just need to relax. Trolls will be trolls, no matter what you say to them. Right now folks need to remember: 1: Do not get angry at the ignorant. Go out and help the folks who have lost their homes by volunteering for the clean up. Go the the Qld Gov page and follow the links. 2: We all need to remember that we are no the only ones that have lived through a major flood this week. Please spare a thought for the poor people in Brazil who have lost over 300 people so far. That is all.
