Being Indian and living in Delhi, i witnessed and experienced the hell hole during the second wave, i can definitely vouch for the fact that this was a collective failure, but i would majorly still blame the government. They were to set an example, yet they completely undermined the situation. Dying of COVID is another thing, but dying without oxygen or beds is the saddest thing in the world.

@@vivifyproductions9608 i disagree. Please look at the magnamity of the number of cases that occurred during the second wave. Delhi alone recorded 28000+ cases in a day and India reported 400,000 cases daily on some days. It was impossible to be ready for such overwhelming infrastructure.

Issue is the stubbornness of most people in India. My dad (70+ years of age) being academically educated, used to go out to buy vegetables everyday, even though everyday at least 4 vegetable vendors come to the doorstep selling vegetables. I & my sibling (we live in another city) told my dad in every manner not to go out everyday, & even mom is equally irresponsible. We even tried stopped talking to him. Didn't work. My dad even started mocking responsible people, "I was the only customer in the market today. People are just coward.". One morning, when my dad was on his way to the vegetable market, a policeman stopped him, gave him a warning that the next time he will put him in jail, & sent back home. Dad didn't go out for 2 weeks. I'm thankful to that policeman. But my dad has begun this crap again. Most people are like my dad. They are idiots, irresponsible, and stubborn. And everyone around them suffer.

I lost my mom to covid. She was 53. I still regret my decision of taking to her to the hospital and leaving her alone there. It's my observation that those who stayed back at home survived. May be because nobody was attending patients properly at hospital or may be the infection must have increased after exposure to so many covid patients in hospital. My mom was all fine visibly but her bp suddenly got 62/45 and oxygen level was 84. Although bp levels got restored at home , but oxygen was 84 when I took her to hospital. I would really appreciate if any medical doctor can reply me whether the condition which I mentioned here was serious or not? My heart still pains to think how my beloved mother have died alone at the hospital 😢

Brother, hello from turkey. I am no doctor so i can't give a proper answer to your sorrowful questions but i have to share my experience in that manner. My father also had high blood pressure and low oxygen levels at home, literally shaking from cold due to low oxygen circulation. We also had discussion whether take him hospital or not as he did not want to go but we eventually took him to hospital. 2 days later he had a stroke and taken into intensive care. It is proven that covid causes strokes and now i can't imagine what would have happened if we did not take him to a hospital. You did the right thing taking your mother to a hospital because you cannot know what would have happened to her in your home and it is a worse thing to cause your mother's death by not taking precautions, at least you did what you had to do. Western styled democracy actually ties the hand of India leaders. In China, the government keeps religions in check, and disciplines the people's behavior (wearing mask, following health code...). Such actions are very difficult to implement in the West and western styled societies like India.

Not all people died off covid but majority died because of it. Severity cases were enough to overwhelm hospitals leading to more deaths that could have been avoided.
