Respect to doctor and team! This area reminds me of kerala backwaters (lagoons) where deadly diseases like elephantiasis existed till 1960s. Hope things change for the better👍

Watch this story as for what it is and efforts of govt and people to reach its masses. Many Singaporeans seem to be comparing healthcare systems. It should be understood that Singapore is 50x30 km. India is close to 3000x3000 km. There is no comparison frankly. Also, India is drained of money for 1200 yrs. British prospered this tiny island Nation but for India they sucked out everything and created luxury stays in very few parts of India where they wanted to live. So, It is not easy to rebuild a country like India in 70 odd yrs. Sadly earlier govt did a slow progress but last 10 yrs have brought some infra pushes in most remote areas of country.

It is noteworthy to mention what Dr. Chee Soon Juan said in his opening remarks, that some Singaporeans have told him, “it is better to die than to fall sick in Singapore.” He has taken heed and it seems like he has gone all out to ensure that no sick man goes untreated, no family needs to be financially burdened when their loved ones fall sick and most importantly, everyone in Singapore has access to basic healthcare.

why are your comments so irrelevant? don't you see the plight of these people living in harsh conditions who doesn't even have the very basic healthcare?

China is declining. India 🇮🇳 is projected to become a developed nation in 25 years. - At the same time, China becomes a second North Korea.

“Healthcare is a need and not a commodity,” said Dr. Gomez, to drive home the point that for-profit healthcare systems have failed to support citizens in the fringes of our society.

SDP’s healthcare plan is a total affront to the current practise of commercialization of healthcare in Singapore. With no representation in parliament, it makes one wonder why they are putting so much effort - it can’t be, as they put it, for PAP to plagiarize their plans. Or perhaps, it could be an indication of their larger plans, both for Singapore and SDP in 2016.
