Pushing someone around at the bagel store, that isn't class, that's just being mean and hateful. Being a jerk isn't class, it's just being a jerk.

I grew up with the true "wasp" heritage. Class we learned as children is always being polite to everyone to a fault, navy blazer and a tie at church or dinner as a sign of respect, generosity, hard work, and you MUST have a job that fits your passion, whatever it may be. And you would never have a gigantic or ostentatious house because it is, frankly, disrespectful in many ways.

So very misleading. 500 years ago I would hazard a guess that your ancestors were tenant farmers.

I like your comment a lot is very reflective of the true social classes that many people miss. To really be excepted into any social class whether it be upper lower or middle you really have to state claim to it whether that be through marriage or through birth. It can be very difficult to even understand the livelihoods the struggles the pain the privileges that come with each independent social class. As someone who was born into an upper class family we would never consider ourselves upper class but having two nannies and spending your entire life in private school and Academy definitely gives you a certain worldview. As I listen to a lot of the names that he has randomly thrown around when you grow up with these people and you have stories about your grandparents spending time with their grandparents it can be difficult to exit your social class.

I live In a new money area of oakland county(michigan) and it is very true that the new money attitude lacks class,but that doesn't mean that the old money types have any more class,gross point is an old money area here in michigan,and they are the same way.the bottom line is;class is when you can truly adapt to the types of people you happen to be around,being an asshole is not classy

Honestly, the real old money people would never appear in a documentary that skewered them. Also, pretending the Southampton and East Hampton are still old money enclaves is ridiculous. In the winter, head to Boca Grande, Jupiter Island, or Lyford Cay. In the summer, look to Watch Hill, Fishers Island, or Dark Harbor.

The part about finding your tribe & your husband in school & thats why my parents spared no expense in living in the best neighborhoods and sending me to the best schools. My grandmother said once "A woman doesn't go to med school to practice medicine, you go there to find your husband" My mother said "You went to school with all these wealthy Jews from grade school to high school & you can't find a banker to settle down with?" 😂😂😂😂 I was more of the free-spirited, hippie type. My eye wasn't always on the green but I found love anyways so no regrets. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I’m not American but I’m from a normally middle class family but my mother has upper class roots and it wasn’t until my grandmothers funeral, it hit me. I use to get bullied in my normal state school for “sounding posh” or having weird jabs by friends about where we took our summer holidays, having gone to a different destination to the typical package trips to mass market resorts. My mother never spoiled us or have us think we are better but she would pick on how we spoke and dressed, manners and good grammar were everything and it was really important to her that we come across as independent and confident and never just blindly follow trends. I never realised that was the “old money” in her. It wasn’t until that funeral and the time before it where my grandmother was dying and we travelled back her time a lot and I really spend a lot of time with that side of family, that I realised how “proper” everyone was.

No such thing as "the Hamptons" it is a media creation coined by outsiders. I grew up in one of the villages ending in ..hampton and never heard the expression till I went away to college. And then it was usually enunciated thus, "da Hamtuns" as it frequently, and sadly, is these days within those very villages.

Absolutely that’s so true. Those American old money it’s very noveau compare to British aristocratic who wealth comes from Feudalism 5 century to 1000 years century. This is just recopy of British aristocracy they can’t ever enter into as their descent comes from merchant and poor classes from uk as their WASP background. if you back to family lineage 400 years old (America a new country) British nobles see them common vulgar parvenu that’s had to work from capitalism (the great equaliser) as their no titled status, ancient history and royalty with landowner class. Especially if their wealth comes blue entrepreneurship like the Vanderbilts railway.

I would define this video as entitlements. If your parents, or following fathers before them did not pass down the wealth then one would actually have to work towards his/her goals. But because of all of these "entitlements", these rich people run free feeling entitlement to the world and if you are not in the in crowd, then you have no literal sense of belonging.
@frankievalentine6112
@frankievalentine6112 8 ай бұрын
You get belonging from your job, then, if you're working class. Many wealthy families are dysfunctional and belonging would be a joke if you asked them. If you can't pass your wealth down to your children, it's not really yours. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to. Material security is how we take care of our generations to come. If your family couldn't or didn't do that, it doesn't mean you should resent the ones who did.

@IMPALEXANDERAVG Do you have any evidence to support your assertion that more black people who climb the financial ladder do so primarily by being in the entertainment industry? How can you deny the absolute historical fact that as late as the sixties blacks in america were denied access to adequate education and blocked from many suburban areas? That would obviously have an impact on generational wealth. In order to achieve social acceptance black people should act like a sitcom family? Wow!

OOh Lordy. Money cannot buy good looks. I'd say rich people in general are more attractive with good nutrition, all the good face creams and hair colorings and longer limbs and height and slimness. But if you have a horsey face or anything else that's not attractive...all of the braces and plastic surgery in the world are not going to fix that. I was born with a really nice face, no amount of money can buy that. It undoubtedly helped me marry well and now we are approaching upper middle class. I retired at 53.
