Look at all those empty seats in that Sun vs Liberty game.🤦 Reality is a lot of new fans are watching for Caitlin and that's it. They still don't care about the WNBA as a whole. If we take away Clark from the equation, the buzz for the WNBA will disappear in an instant. So if Indiana doesn't make it to the finals this year (I doubt they will), the WNBA finals will see a steep decline in attendance.

I’m glad this reporting STARTED by taking a step back and addresses the real reason WNBA players don’t make as much money as NBA players (investment, viewership, history, etc) and not just pandering about women always being paid unequally lol. if the WNBA keep this up, they’ll begin to close the gap. But they have DECADES of smart business and great basketball to go.

@scottwheeler24942 ай бұрын
Vegas is an unicorn. Or at least has been in the past. The NBA involvement is not altruistic. They saw a way to add 20 revenue dates to the buildings the own or control. They also saw relatively inexpensive way to get women off their equity back. A couple of million a year is a rounding error to a NBA owner, almost exclusively billionaires. The revenue model makes them effectively first to get their money back. So no tears for NBA owners. It's hard to paint a economic picture that portraits the women in a bigger light. Removing C. Clark from the picture, the league is so slowly growing its laughable. Everyone, including Bill Burr, is right. Nobody is watching the game. Remove CC from the counts and viewership on average is less than a couple of million on its best day. Now the hundreds of millions dollar question is CC gonna take this league on her back. I have enjoyed watching her. She is pure basketball. She is also marketable as hell. She has a team around her who with one exception is young and also very marketable. But even the teams real veteran is young. There is resentment within the league for that as it will result in more money for her teammates. Gonna be interesting to see if in the new CBA there are more revenue sharing methods from richer to poorer. At the moment local money is all local. So merch is all retained. Big plus for a merchant town like Vegas. Which is where Vegas comes back in. Vegas never had sports teams because of the gambling issue. Now that pretty much every state has some form of legalized gaming, they were able to overcome the objection. Short of baseball every sport is represented. It's too damn hot in summer to play baseball in Vegas. So women's basketball makes much more sense. It's the only sports ticket in town. So for all these reasons, Vegas is a unicorn when it comes to valuation. Now is it enough? Time will tell. You also have a break to Canadian teams. The legal and tax issues on top of the other socialistic state of Canadian politics make rationalization of the economics to much for my American brain. The currency issues alone...

It's about splits. Which is an interesting idea. I enjoyed getting a little more insight from this video. It's not about them making LeBron money, but them getting a percentage of the revenue that's closer to the NBA players. They mentioned a strategy where if the league has a 20% increase from the previous season, only then will the players get a cut of the 20% growth, and not the whole pie. Some shaky business going on in that league, and the players know it.

You can’t get paid more if you are literally not making a profit. It does not matter if the WNBA is making record gross revenue. Revenue does not mean anything. The problem lies with the racism shown by the black players against CC this year. That turned off fans that saw what was happening and this showed in the massive drop in both audience and viewer attendance after the Fever left the play offs. The WNBA mismanaged the opportunity that CC brought them badly.The racism was not from the fans, it was from a particular group of players and the commission refused to stop it for fear of backlash from those players.

The question is simple. The WNBA could have easily been profitable this year is that didn’t spend $50m on private flights. They’ve fumbled every opportunity they’ve had to grow and expand the league while taking 10’s of millions from the generosity of the NBA every year since its inception.
