KFC in China is not even famous for its original fried chicken that they sells in US. one thing is because unlike burgers and other foods, Fried chicken exists in every culture in some form, so it is easy to export to another culture with minimal modification. They also were first in China for western fast food, which gave them early brand recognition. They also made very good political and business connections in China which helped. But the fact that fried chicken is universal means minimal need to explain the cuisine to customers

There're lots of restaurants in China, which means there's a lot of competition. Not only that, KFC is relatively independently operated by a Chinese food company in China, so the menu items are quite different compared to those in the US. They also have new items coming out frequently, and they do taste good in most cases. But in US, KFC is basically just boring low quality fried chicken all day long. In fact, the same goes for most fast-food restaurants in the US. They barely change menu items and just have the same stuff for many years. Really wondering how fast-food chains like that can survive.

China is totalitarian monster created by American corporate greed! If you look where the bulk of US jobs went to and compare it to what happened to the middle class in America and in China in the last thirty years, you ought to come to this conclusion. We can't have our economies depend on totalitarian regimes and be free in our democratic aspirations for the future, period! Our experience of the last thirty plus years has proven this indisputably. West, Taiwan and Ukraine included, must completely decouple its economies and online space from totalitarian China and Russia BEFORE it is TOO LATE, ASAP!

In America they survive because many people here love cheap garbage food and they don't have to cook. And Americans love the same stuff over and over for many years. It's why we get married and watch the same shows with the same characters for 97 seasons. I go to McDonald's like 4 times per year. I bring my dogs to get nuggets after their vet appointments. And KFC here in the states is complete trash. I mean even for fast food standards. But these places survive here in the States because in this country fast food places and supermarkets are cathedrals.

@jenniferesein4813 I disagree as various companies in different segments have fallen behind in various points in history by competitors that provide better service. I mean in my area of the nation for example a gas station brand called Quick Trip changed the entire landscape for gas stations. Before they came, it was all small, dirty, run down buildings with bad service. QT took so much business away from various chains that many closed and others had to do massive renovations to compete because the service and quality were miles ahead. If you offer Americans better service and cleaner locations, they will come. It's been proven over and over.

In grad school I worked with several Chinese students. For one of their birthdays we got KFC, because there wasn't a KFC in town we drove 30 miles just to get it. I remember the look on his face when we surprised him with KFC, but I will never forget what he said: "This tastes like home." As a child KFC was always a treat, and when he could have it in the USA with his whole lab, it was the most special thing. What’s missing from this news video is that the food menu in China’s KFC, Pizza Hut, and McDonald’s are different than the US. In fact, the fast food in China is actually mouth watering good along with fast service. Meanwhile, here in the US we get to eat almost inedible food that also comes with bad service and then we wonder why sales are down. KFC in China is totally another level. Its actually good with all the flavours (if you don't like Chinese flavours its fine because they still do all the original ones just as good), its really cheap if you take part in online surveys or get promo codes etc. Also, KFC in China innovates at least 4 or 5 times every year and basically change a big chunk of their menu which means that unless you are very heavily addicted to KFC, you are pretty much guaranteed a new experience every time.

I was teaching in Guangzhou, China from 2009-2013. My observation is that KFC is a place for family dinning. McDonald's is a place for teenagers to hangout or business people to meet . There is a Starbucks inside the Forbidden city, Beijing 😅 when I visited. The craziest KFC menu are the Chinese donuts, definitely deep fried, crunchy to go with the porage 😅. The egg tarts are from the Portuguese national dessert, introduced in Macau and spreads to the mainland because its just delicious. I was visiting in Peru in September 2023, i spend many hours at the Lima airport, every food court counters are Americans brands, you can named it, kfc, McDonald's, Starbucks, Dunkin donuts 😅 i wanted to try local food, but just cannot find any!

Not gonna lie, I was born in China and grew up as a kid there until I moved to U.S. Even back in early 2000s, being able to go to KFC in China was a luxury for the average household because it was very expensive to eat American fast food in China. You can easily spend 50 RMB 20-30 years ago for one or two people, and the average household income per month was only about 300 RMB. It still is kind of expensive even today. But I remember the way they made their chicken for the locals were vastly different than how they would make it in America, because they had to cater to the locals' flavor. The chicken was cooked with way more spices and packed with flavors I felt like, and it just tasted way better. When I moved to America and had their KFC, the taste was just not the same. It was a lot more disappointing because the chicken was dry. The chicken they serve now in KFC in America just doesn't taste the same as it was back then, and it feels like the quality has gone down a lot compared to how they originally started. My only advice is that you try KFC yourself in China and then you'll understand how better it taste compared to the ones in America because of the customization they do catered to their locals.

@@lvjinbin28 KFC is mostly for parents to take their kids because kids love the kids meal. Most local adults would just rather eat like a big plate of chow mein or soup noodles for half of the cost, and it's more filing and comforting because some places let you have unlimited refills of noodles and soul until you're satisfied. It's just a no brainer to eat those instead of fast food and spend more money. A family of 3 is just better off going to an all you can eat hotpot place and pay like 100 RMB than 100RMB at KFC, because 100 RMB isn't enough to feed a family of 3 full, especially if you want to eat a bit more.

KFC in China is not the same company. It was spun off into Yum China, becauss the Yum Brands dod not having the managerial capacity for the expansion. Yum China's doesn't have any real managerial connection. It just has to pay a 3% royalty on all sales. So it is basically just a Chinese company with an American facade.

In Australia KFC was going downhill a few years ago because of poor sanitation and food preparation practices resulting in a lot of KFC food poisoning cases however in 2017-2018 they massively cleaned up their act and are now massively thriving with them being on par with McDonald’s and Burger King which is known as Hungry Jacks in Australia! KFC is operated as fully independent franchise operations in Japan (and in China). So although they use the KFC name they operate independently. They have done a much better job at adapting and maintaining quality in their markets. Now, in the US there has been a lot more competition, so things are lot more difficult for KFC here. However, the management of the U.S. operations have not been as good. Quality has suffered and market share has been lost.

All these fast food restaurants are serving real food outside of the US. It's just not the same store, they just share the same names. To those who think they should do better in the US. It's impossible where they stand now, it's just different economy they represent. McDonald and KFC are not your typical minimum wage food in places like China, they're pretty expensive compare to local cheapest places. I have visited China many times pre-pandemic, the pricing of the food is more like your typical higher end of middle class food. If i have to place a figure, i would say it's about equivalence of $50-$75 per person. Please note this is not based on currency exchange, I'm referring to purchase power in relationship to how much people make and food cost. It's pure estimation based on my experience, actual experience may be varies due to location and personal perception of this matter.

Yea I do agree. People in the fast food industry in Australia just don't really care what they sell to customers. Either too greasy, or cold or undercooked, everytime I go I get some surprise. But actually even cheap street food in China is not bad at all.
@overcookedsalmon82
@overcookedsalmon82 8 ай бұрын
Equivalent to 50-75 dollars is bs. Average person spends ~30-50 kuai (maybe a little off) at McDonald’s pre pandemic. A quick pasta at wagas is ~70-80 kuai. I would say you can get the same pasta in US ~20-25 dollars so you do the math. But of course there are cheap food in china that costs you ~10-20 for lunch. Food is in general more affordable in china than US excluding fine dining

I'm a Brit who is currently living in Kuwait; I'm a maths teacher, and moved here to work. I order KFC on the KFC Kuwait app and an app called Talabat. The KFC here is officially 'KFC', but tastes noticeably different to the UK. I think the 'secret formula spices' or whatever just aren't provided to Kuwait KFC places. Like I have a KFC in the UK when I returned home for Christmas, and my friend told me this would be the last 'real KFC' I'll eat in a while. China's a big market, but Kuwait's obesity due to american fast food companies setting up shop here indicates that the Arab countries are another great market for KFC.

It’s not gormet.. but even still, fast food and brands have become less popular because of prices and people are eating better and supporting local shops more because it’s almost the same prices.. so why eat kfc when u can get a chicken burger fresh good quality at a local for less/same price? Alot of comments don’t get this. McDonald’s, kfc, etc are like the last things u wanna eat and it’s not even worth it these days. N plus, China doesn’t even know about in and out and chick fila😂😂😂😂 that’s the new “fast gormet” food in the west.

Back in those days Mash poatoes and gravy was something you can't get anywhere else and you tried asking around no one knows what you are talking about. But I bet if Popeyes opened there, KFC would go out of business there. Popeyes is way better than KFC in my opinion and cheaper. I think why KFC thrives there, because fried chicken is not a new thing there. But it's hard to find a convenient place that sells it. Popcorn chicken is a staple there, but it just doesn't taste anything close to KFC.

China won WW2 at the cost of 30 million military and civilian lives (20 millions based on number from US congress library). Yet, when the war ended, China repatriated 400,000 Japanese troops and settlers peacefully without mass killing or torturing of any scale, nor.holding any of them to labor in mines or fields. Chinese villagers even help raised thousands of Japanese orphans and returned them to Japan as grown up in 70 and 80s. This is a level of humanity after great suffering from deadly Japanese enemy, and you would rarely see at any other places What China got.from WW2 is a recovery of Taiwan and several small islands in South China Sea. Yet, politicians and military people in US have any idea about it, all they know is to challenge China with wars simply because the development of China threat the order they established and enjoyed for so many years.

Chinese migrants and settlers lived in peace and helped aboriginal tribe people in so many ways. You would find any instance like how European settlers treated aboriginal tribe people in America and Australia. Only after WW2, Indonesian brain.washed by.the West,.had racial motivated cleaning violence towards local Chinese, some tens of thousands were killed and tortured. Yet, China now helped Indonesia completed its first HSR, other area such as giving super rice planting technologies for free, relieving local food shortage. China even treated Philippines the.same until USA alarmed selfishly.and step in and bring troubles to South China Sea with laughable excuses

My sister has been working at KFC in China for a few months. She told me that KFC throws away a bunch of cooked but unsold food every day. What a waste! Why don't they donate their food to people in need? I can't imagine how much food they throw away in so many stores.

As a Chinese, I lived in the US from 2011 to 2021. I only ordered KFC (in Salt Lake City) twice, and I don’t like its food and service. During that ~10 years, every time I went back China, I ordered KFC several times😂, and I think KFC in China is one of my favorite restaurant.
