These smart cities should just focus on making tiny little fixes to inconveniences and to trying to save the council a few pennis here and there rather than trying to be THIS CRAZY, WE DO NOT NEED A MEGA SMART CITY, IT'S OVER THE TOP!!!

THIS IS WHAT WE NEED MORE OF! I am all for SUPPORTIVE smart buildings... BUT... We DO NOT NEED a massive big brother George Orwell dystopia... For example: Take a look at the EPIC stuff that Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, is doing... They are trying to create the greenest Campus in the World, and they are doing this by using smart building technology to simply see how the University can reduce energy, water, waste footprints, save money, and help the environment... And it worked PERFECTLY their technology was able to almost INSTANTLY identify a number of issues with heating and ventilation systems, energy meters, and room management, they ALSO discoverd 5 new technologies that were simulated using the calibrated models to determine what the savings would be if they were installed in the building... THESE WERE: High resistance envelope for walls and roofs, high resistance envelope for windows, lighting with occupancy sensors, plug load management, and high performance optimised chillers. All these things were HUMONGOUS SUCCESS and did not require anyone to lose their FREEDOMS AND HUMAN RIGHTS! We DO NOT NEED every single city to be entirely smart but some buildings (Or perhaps all buildings,) can use this technology to save the planet, and there is NO NEED for the government to spy on our ENTIRE lives.

Another cool, simple, and proven way to help our environment is by Tree-lined avenues and community woodlands lock up carbon and absorb particulates from the atmosphere, both improving air quality and benefitting people's health by reducing respiratory diseases. Now these are real great methods that do not create a dystopia, governments are not trying to solve the problem they are just using this an excuse to spy on us more!!!

While I can see there are “big brother” concerns, as a Singaporean, I’ve noticed that data isn’t shared between government departments. It’s a bit of a pain because i have to do same/ similar tests or procedures for different department needs and there’s no centralised app like Dubai but I’d pay that price for privacy.

It's coming and it is a nightmare. I was in Virginia for 3 months in 2005 for military training. As required, I bought car insurance and registered my car in Virginia but was still a Florida resident. I deployed to Japan and my friend sold my car with power of attorney. Come 2017 I was moving from south Florida to north Florida. I went in to renew my license and registration at the last minute because I was packing and would rather renew at my new address (but time ran out.) Except Virginia ordered Florida to suspend my license for "failure to insure vehicle." Virginia thought I was still driving a car without insurance even though anyone can go online with the VIN and see the change of ownership. After 12 years, I had no records. We only keep tax returns for 7 years. Why would anyone hold on to documents for 12 years? I tried to fight it but I was out of state and now suspended. From what I gather I would have needed to see a judge. Phone clerks were useless. My move was put on hold. I lost the rental I had arranged. But yeah - we need to give the government more control over our lives so they take people off the road who have perfect driving records to keep you safe.

That 3D live representation of the city is, of course, fascinating and terrifying but what if it was available to all people to see? Not just the government. What if all this amazing technology was as open-ended as possible. I guess it could work in non-shithole countries like these here.

What are smart cities? A great and innovative new way for your government and big tech to collect your data! And who’s gonna pay for it? Me and you! I mean only god knows how excited I am to be able to log on to my city app and pay a red light.

to save it you have to spend it first... and there we go... For places like Dubai I wonder how much did they spent on that "city" app that basically duplicate activities you could have done online anyway. And as far as Singapore is concerned they just keep building there modern version of harsh millennia old Legalist state (akin of the Qin Shi HuangDi). As for example of Barcelona... well they could save a lot if they wouldn't have street lights often on in the middle of the day. No sensors required. As for the for the app that would tell you where are free parking spots... well good idea to "sell" to stupid city bureaucrats ( i just hope that they are stupid rather than corrupt). Cause factor in delay and all other people rushing for one... Take a look how bike sharing app working now... given demand for parking spaces and relative numbers vs density similar app for parking would be total disaster!
