In this video I am going to show you how I created bowls or trays on my Inventables X-Carve CNC machine with logos that go completely through the base. You can create a really cool floating effect if you use a clear or semi-clear epoxy or some contrasting wood.

Very cool idea! I love the way the bowls turned out, I want to give this a try. You are right Odie's Oil is simply the best! It's my go to finish.

These are awesome. I’m an epoxy hater, but this is a very acceptable use in my opinion. 😂

Thank for this video. My nephew is on the U of TN coaching staff. I tried to do the epoxy one. Everything went well until almost the last pass the bit caught the epoxy and blew a hole in it. BUT I will take the blame as I did not wait long enough for the epoxy to fully cure.

FYI when using the Z-probe you dont clamp to the bit itself, the clampis formed to fit on the collet itself for a more solid connection.

You should try boiled linseed oil if you haven't yet. It gives almost the same look but will also keep your wood tool handles good for years to come.

Awesome video. I love the humble feel and "growth mindset" vibe and tone while at the same time putting out some amazing results. A refreshing break from the trend of woodworking hubris out there. Did you use Easel for the inlays?

Now that's it's been over a year, how is the epoxy bowl holding up? Any issues with the wood expanding and contracting?

Not that I am aware of. I gave these all away as gift to some great friends, so I haven't seen them in quite a while. No reports of failure though.

@@randysgreatadventures3148 You bet. If you have a really porous wood with open grain it is always a good idea to seal the initial pocket you are going to pour tinted epoxy in as you would be surprised how far some epoxy will travel through wood and possibly stain the area. Best of luck!
