That's because Walker actually stops talking when he's done saying what he wanted to say. Most politicians will not only take forever to say what they want to say, but they intentionally aim to fill airtime with their best soundbites. They won't shut up. Also, Walker isn't there to create a false narrative. Many interviewees will just blatantly lie in support of their position, and if they are not challenged immediately, their lies can take on a life of their own.

Good comedy and satire has to start plausible, then show ridiculous consequences of ideas pushed to their limits. On average successful comedians appear to be far more intelligent and astute than politicians, yet they would have to hide that in politics as many voters dislike such brightness as it's uncomfortable being faced with your limitations. Certain politicians appear to be dullards without any intelligence or mastery of argument or erudition, but checking up you discover firsts from elite select universities.

Freedom of speech should absolutely be protected at all costs; no excuses, no exceptions, no proposals to compromise. - It really really really doesn't matter that the right to apply it can upset some people sometimes. @@hybridh9702 That's no real revelation to me. Political correctness "gone mad" for example; the extremist lefts' persistent attempts at pushing for your language to be clipped, reduced and confined for fear of causing offence, irrespective of intent or context... It's toxic. It erodes objectivity. It shuts down debate. It's built on the dumbest of assumptions that if you control peoples language you control their behaviour and how they truly feel. It turns my stomach. Perhaps to be more accurate I should have said the integrity of freedom of speech should be restored at all costs. - As long as enough of us are calling out the bullshit as we see it, the principle survives... if people care enough.

I'm curious why you think the law should protect everyone's choice to lie under oath in court, because I can't imagine how that would not quickly become somewhat problematic for literally everyone. Or did you mean 'almost' no exceptions?
@Stu0475 жыл бұрын
@@anonimushbosh ...to protect everyone's choice to lie under oath in a court? - I don't quite follow how the specific scenario you have offered even relates to freedom of speech. Is that what you think freedom of speech does? - Protect a person's decision to lie under oath? How does freedom of speech protect liars exactly? How would not having freedom of speech ensure that a liar tells the truth? What specific mechanism of principle or means could possibly be employed to ensure that a habitually dishonest person wouldn't lie because he's under oath? Liars are liars, be it to you, me, their family, the law, a court, their god, your god... An oath to the truth means absolutely nothing to a liar. The dishonest aren't liars because they have ready access to freedom of speech; they're liars because they are dishonest! And yes, I maintain that freedom of speech should be protected for all regardless of their social background, their ethnicity, their beliefs, their ethics, their politics, their morality, their education and even their ignorance. Even for a liar.
@anonimushbosh5 жыл бұрын
@@Stu047 I'm talking about extrapolation, obviously. My scenario is an example of some of the pitfalls of encouraging everyone to say or not say anything they choose. When you say freedom of speech you're thinking about opinions but if there was literally no restriction it would, by definition, relate to anything a person could write down or utter. What about libel? Would it be ok if the BBC were legally permitted to brand you a paedophile on the whim of a journalist you pissed off in the KZbin comments section? It's a shame that all interviews aren't conducted in this format. The mainstream news recently has become so cluttered with extraneous static, designed to hide the lack of substance. All the cable channels have adopted the style of 'panels' where multiple 'experts', with polarised viewpoints, shout over each other to get their 5 second sound-bite on the record, while the screen is covered with crawling chyrons screaming the 'latest breaking news' and the current stock market prices. This all helps to disguise the fact that MSM is less and less to do with journalism and transfer of information, and more to do with anaesthetising the viewing public and selling product.

Glad they kept that interruption in, it was refreshing! I hate when everything is all perfect & not one hair strand is out of place! Loved Tom's response to it: he has a very warm & engaging personality, so different from his alter ego ranter Jonathan Pie!

This is the second interview I've seen where Tom and his interviewer are both sensible and respectful -- talking about grown up politics, just like a real politician wouldn't....

For those who have not watched this man in action, go now. Not only is his wit genius and one take presentation out of this world but he actually gives you the week's news, with amazing accuracy all crammed in to a 4 minute rant... With the World full of fucked, lying, narcissistic leaders, this guy gives you the true info you need.

Why does it say unexpected turn. There's no unexpected turn.
@Generalscorpio4 жыл бұрын
Mostly clickbait, probably based on the minor technical problems at the start, possibly an allusion to the quality of the interview.
@steeltrap38004 жыл бұрын
I thought the unexpected turn was that it was a very competent interview, not trying to push an agenda nor trying for "gotcha" moments, engaging with the guest and letting them speak without interruption. Surprised me, lol. Does anyone watch a mainstream media interview, such as BBC or similar, and expect it to be "genuine journalism" as this was, or do they expect (and usually get) Cathy Newman style garbage?

left/right is just polarising nonsense, there is only good v bad. Some right wing values are great as are some left wing. I have both a left arm and a right arm. Some things are good for me, they enrich my life, some are bad and they diminish my life. Duality is a bitch ;)
@RaceBeacon4 жыл бұрын
@@stevefrompolaca2403 true. I am probably more culturally right but economically left. If you are too arrogant to accept any other opinions like some do just because it is considered 'right' or 'left' is childish.

Great interview of a man that certainly rose up to the challenge of fighting the political system. Democracy is our best system of ruling, but we need to have ways to hold our politicians accountable. They have the power, and they are selling it out to the highest bidder.
