@erni muja Feminism has always been destructive to society :P
@16m49x35 жыл бұрын
@erni muja Feminism back then was led by rich women you mean. Women with more power in society than 60% of the population, women or otherwise. Back then only 40% of men had the vote. 100 years earlier, only 1% of men had the vote. These women were the wives and daughters of the men that had had the vote for centuries. And if you are to suggest to me that they did not have the power to sway their husbands and fathers votes. Then you think very little of women. These women had many freedoms to do whatever the hell they wanted. Some women were forced into political marriages, yes. But so were a lot of men. That's about the worst thing that happened to them. Back then having a job meant working 10-12 hours a day 6 days a week. In a factory, in a field or some other harsh, demeaning, or otherwise backbreaking job. Or of course you could go die in war as a soldier. The women back then did not want those jobs. And I dare say nobody today want them either. The women that were not the daughters of rich people. Actually much enjoyed the arrangement of men doing labor and the woman taking care of the house. Because women had it better... Have you heard of the anti-feminists? They were equally as many as the feminists. But of course they didn't have the social power, nor the time really to go about complaining. They were poor (according to our standards) and had things to do. In Britain women got the vote in 1918, the same year men got the vote. Men had been fighting for the vote for 150 years at that point. And was given it because of their duty to fight in war. And because of the huge amounts of men that died in WW1 without suffrage. Women got the vote too. Just because... Women joining the work force happened after the laborers had worked for ages to improve working conditions. They had negotiated down the work hours to 8 hours a day and finally the work life balance of the poor was also evening out. The women joining the work force of course upended that. Because now, instead of a family having one man working 40 hour weeks. you had two adults working 40 hour weeks. And the same family didn't even earn any more money than they did before. If it isn't immediately obvious to you, this means you have 40 hours less as a family to spend on taking care of the house and children. If the feminists actually cared about society. They would have negotiated with the government, not only to "let" them into the work force (The government was thrilled about having women in the work force) They would have leveraged their work against bringing the working hours for men even lower.
@aguspuig66155 жыл бұрын

Unfortunately this doesn't apply to the US.And before everyone freaks out it's been proven that women in white collar jobs here make less than a man doing the same job,same thing for our melanin enhanced friends.A prestigious American University sent identical resumes except for gender and race and guess what?Women and brown folks were routinely offered 10-20% less than their identical white male counterparts.American's are encouraged never to talk about how much they make,precisely for this reason.It's illegal here too technically,but that's never stopped a corporation before.The other observations are valid,but don't cover it all here.Maybe the UK's different.
@Original_Tenshi_Chan6 жыл бұрын
Stephen Cody exactly, except a few points. It's "sort of" illegal to base pay on gender and race, religion, etc but the onus is on YOU the employee to find out and prove it within a short period of time, otherwise, it's Too bad, so sad. That's what the Lilly Ledbetter Act was supposed to fix:"the clock didn't start until you found out. But, on drumpf's obsession of all things Obama, he undid the Ledbetter Act. Also, to add to what you were saying about white collar professionals and the wage gap, there was an additional study about the wage gap in the medical field. Even with EVERY option the same (IE: Same college, same GPA, same title, same field of medicine, same hospital, etc) except gender, men were on average paid around $12,0000 more per year than their female counterparts. A KZbin channel Healthcare Triage did a great video on it, with all sources linked and provided.

Yeah, the problem was never the 'pay gap' specifically, it was always the underlying issues that foster specific environments and/or systems that promote issues inclined to marginalize or dissuade women from entering the workplace to the same extent as men. So. Basically, what the vid said.
@allamericanslacker23786 жыл бұрын
@Mel Christensen That's not actually accurate. All it takes is looking at statistics of which gender does what job in countries like Sweden to see that the opposite is actually the case where the more egalitarian the society is, the sharper the gender divide becomes with regards to which jobs people take. In other words, the more sexist a society is, the more likely you are to see women striving for jobs, careers, and positions that might be viewed as "men's work".
@scocassovegetus5 жыл бұрын
Ha ha, like environments where one has to work hard, sweat, get dirty, lift heavy things, endanger themselves, and so forth. Woman: "I want to be a welder". Instructor: "Okay, take that oxygen tank and put it over there." Woman: "I can't budge it. I'm being marginalized and dissuaded from being a welder in this toxic male environment!"
@celticcheetah63712 жыл бұрын
@@scocassovegetus you see maybe we need to redefine what “work hard” means. Have you ever looked after 3 toddlers for a day, on your own? Tantrums and shitty nappies and having your eyes everywhere in case someone falls off a sofa or shoved their fingers in a plug socket… totally exhausting. So perhaps the way to decrease the “pay gap” is to increase the monetary value we place on so called “women’s work”. In fact Scandinavian countries have done this to quite an extent - e.g. in Finland, teachers (majority female in the UK) are paid the same as doctors and lawyers (majority male in the UK). And when you think about it, why shouldn’t they be? We trust them to guide and program our kids. That’s a pretty important job.

I wouldn't say it's completely bullshit, as there are definitely cases where it is happening. However, I do agree that those instances are not as common as we are lead to believe, and that the bigger problem is the sexism that still exists in the workplace.
@Descorath6 жыл бұрын
+ErykaSoleil, Im curious. "there are definitely cases where it is happening." Where? The US ? UK ? Multiple studies has shown that this is not the case in both these countries (and elsewhere, Canada, Norway and Germany that I have read, indicating that its the same everywhere) There might be isolated cases if you look deep enough, but that can happen in any variability (and go both ways) and so far there is no evidence that it is nothing more than rare cases that has no connection to each other and definitely not something systemic. Or are you not thinking about the "pay gap" narrative that women is payed less for the same work, but rather that the jobs women choose to do is payed less than some other jobs and thus they have a lower income compared to men as a whole? If so, that is a whole different topic, and one that I'm somewhat agree should be looked into if anything should or could be done (though it is market driven so hard to drive value to something that isn't valued more by the market itself) Also, sexism that exists in the workplace? again, US? Do you mean at all workplaces in general and its a "systemic" problem, or individual cases? Here too, at least on this side of the pond there is little evidence to show anything resembling the "epidemic" or systemic sexism that is argued in the media these days, though there are cases of it that absolutely should be looked into and taken seriously. Just to pre-empt, I'm not trying to hang you out in any way, I'm genuinely interested in a discussion if you have arguments against my view here.
@olly080216 жыл бұрын
Ah deary me. If you're going to say "multiple studies has shown that this is not the case", you actually have to back that up with the studies... That's how proper debate works, otherwise it's obvious you're just talking out of your arse. For example, here's how it's done. Independent studies proving the gender pay gap in the UK: ig.ft.com/gender-pay-gap-UK/ www.equalityhumanrights.com/sites/default/files/research-report-109-the-gender-pay-gap.pdf www.equalpayportal.co.uk/statistics/ And before you say "these are direct comparisons, they don't take into account life choices and maternity leave bla bla" - Actually, READ the studies. They DO take that into account, and still find a gap. Now, THAT is how you reference studies
@Descorath6 жыл бұрын
+Oliver Crockett, I'll dig up the ones I read on the UK specifically. I'll also read through those links you posted, though quick skimming some of them even comments on how they do not take everything into account. My point was the "pay gap" referred to in the media as lower pay for the same job, something that is against the law in the UK and has been for a while now if I remember correctly, and at least one of the studies you linked writes about how it found no difference in the pay for the same job. Now this may be me using the wrong phrase for the "pay gap" based of what they define it as in the UK and rather should have used the term equal pay? I never argued that there wasn't a difference in the average wages between women and men as a whole (or even within a sector), that is true, but when you dig into the material there is reasons for this variations that remove all but a small percentage of the differences. These being factors as occupation, full time/part time, overtime, pregnancy and more. One factor is even that men is more likely to ask for raises than females are. The study I most recently read was from norway where they after taking everything into account found less than 2% differences in wages when doing the same work. Again, I have to read through the studies to see what they take into account or not and what their conclusions are. Oh, and I even see one of the studies show that women have higher wages than men in the 20-30 age bracket, though that is never mentioned.
@Descorath6 жыл бұрын
+fenrif, thanks for the quick summery of the studies, that was my initial feel of them but I want to dig further down in them before I answered conclusively.

I think it boils down to the fact that a lot of people out there genuinely believe men and women are biologically identical. The fact that they are different means it's almost certain there will be a gender pay gap. Maybe if sexism is completely removed from society, the pay gap will close a bit, maybe women would even earn more than men on average, or maybe we would find the sexism is mainly directed towards men and that the pay gap would widen. But I would find it highly unlikely that two groups of people, who have different brains, hormone levels and bodies on average, would end up earning the same on average. I want men and women to be treated fairly and equally when applying for jobs or getting promoted. However, the current strategy of claiming there's sexism until women are earning an equal amount (or more) than men on average, is very dangerous in my opinion.

@Mohammed Naji Resursskola um.. yeah, intelligent and reasonable. What's your point? 3x as many people are born then die. This isn't even sustainable and we are killing everything. There is going to be 9.8 billion people in 2050, when has it gone too far? You realize this doesnt stop right, imagine everywhere being New York or farmland. Fucking hell is what it's going to be. 15,000 people are born every hour, do we really even matter? You must see that humanity doesn't really deserve all it thinks it does. We have lots of potential but we'd rather piss it away, everyday I feel like this joke has gone on too long and it's not funny anymore.

Oxytocin 97 weird way to put it
@CJM-rg5rt5 жыл бұрын
@@sjuvanet I think it is a super weird delusion that we can say deer and raccoons get overpopulated. It's getting worse all the time but we are so greedy, someone always blames politicians but if you did more then replace you and your loved one then you contributed to all the problems and haven't accepted or don't care about our nature.

Oxytocin 97 half of it is coming from middle eastern families overpopulating europe with 10 kids each, because they haven’t gotten the memo that it isn’t the middle ages and all but 1 kid dying isn’t how it is anymore
@CJM-rg5rt5 жыл бұрын
@@dylanhinkel3548 I know it's worse over there but even America is bad too. Ultra inhabitable places like my home state of Ohio turn into a massive suburb. It sucks when a small heavily trafficked park is the furthest you can get away within a hundred miles and it somehow gets more packed with housing developments and stores every second. It pisses me off that nobody cares how great it would be if we kept our fucking down to a minimum. The only way I can see myself thinking fondly of humanity in general is if we kept a healthy population like seriously 2 kids max with all our technology and advancements would be paradise.

It could be less men are going to universities because a university education no longer ensures a good job; and only ensures massive debts. Schools however is a different matter.
@Tespri6 жыл бұрын
+Mark Postgate That, however from school perspective, school environment is not favorable to men. In order to be good in school one just needs to be submissive and more agreeable person. However men age generally disagreeable hence less likely to do homework or read to the exams. Therefore their grades suffer. Not to mention that when they are teens and filled with hormones... Good luck trying to focus on anything in mixed classes, especially if teacher is average or above when it come to her looks.

Any chance David Schwimmers offer of a chaperone was really to protect himself? It might be insulting but being prosecuted for sexual harassment is career ending stuff even if they're found not guity.
