You can’t join NATO while embroiled in a territorial dispute. If everyone returned to their homeland Ukraine could conceivably be fast-tracked into NATO. Putin is counting on this. Worst case scenario, he’ll slice off a chunk of Ukraine all the way to Crimea and leave Ukraine the option of relinquishing that territory for a NATO membership

Thing is, the best option for Ukraine is to stop fighting. It will never be able to defeat Russia without American support that we should stop giving. Zelensky really needs to decide what is best for Ukrainians and the future of Ukraine. Spending 40% of a country’s gdp on the military will not be sustainable indefinitely. There does not seem to be a strategic endpoint for Ukraine’s campaign apart from continuous war and endless death till a truce or peace is negotiated. It seems unreasonable to expect other nations to continue funding a war with no end in sight.
