I read an article where people in Boeberts own district were tired of her craziness and even newspapers in her district called for her to be gone. Most people interviewed in her district were embarrassed by her and said she doesn't do anything. The debate was a joke because she kept speaking about Nancy Pelosi and her opponent had to keep telling her he is not Nancy Pelosi; so people say they rather have the Democrat instead of her. In their minds, it is not about party, but the character of the person who will best represent their district.

"...it is not about party, but the character of the person who will best represent their district." That is the way it should always be, if you want your local government representatives to actually represent and care about their constituants... it is not rocket science! Blind party loyalty allows corrupt and incompetant (and lazy) politicians a free ride, without them having to earn it, or even listen to their constituents wishes and concerns!

=sigh= Last time I checked, the biggest concern was the economy and inflation - yet most Republican and Democrat candidates standing for election this year did not seem to get that memo - although I did notice some Dem voters acknowledged that but said it won't affect how they'd vote. Republicans seem to think that guns trump butter....and if the Dems win, they've only themselves to blame.
@emm8357
@emm8357 Жыл бұрын
@@meilinchan7314 the problem is, inflation is worldwide, created by global forces outside the control of either Congress or the President. It wouldn’t matter if it was a Republican President - inflation is a global issue right now. Economists from both sides of the aisle have even said that their research shows that GOP policies, such as keeping the Trump tax cuts beyond their expiry date and lowering corporate taxes, would exacerbate inflation by blowing up the debt and causing problems with investor confidence and bond markets. If people were voting Republican in the hope that inflation would come down, they were sorely mistaken. The GOP, as you said, only have themselves to blame - picking extreme and unelectable candidates and hiding the truth about inflation. Looks like a lot of people were wise to the ruse.

I look forward to the day when the country has decent and affordable federal-level healthcare that other countries will envy and copy, as well as throwing unemployment down past the floorboards and raising its educational standards. Because, by all the gods, the country deserves that much. Get the right people in and get the dead-weights out; if they cannot deliver, out they go. The 2022 midterms were a pretty good night for Democrats. Republicans were expected to net gain 15-30 house seats, Republicans only net gained 9 seats and many of those races were razor thin. Republicans were expected to net gain 1-4 senate seats, Democrats ended up net gaining 1 seat. Democrats successfully defended Arizona, Nevada, Georgia (twice), Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire. All key 2024 swing states. Republicans did narrowly eek out Wisconsin for senate, but democrats won the AG and SOS race there (as well as Nevada, Arizona, and Michigan) and democrats won the governor races in Arizona, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Sure democrats came up short in Nevada for governor but they won the senate race, AG and SOS races. Republican senate and governor wins in Iowa, Ohio, North Carolina, Texas, Florida, and Georgia (for governor) we’re all expected and Democrats don’t need any of them to get to 270 in 2024. In fact Republicans get flip GA, AZ, NV in 2024 and still come up short to 270 electoral votes if they don’t win WI, MI, and PA and in a Biden vs Trump rematch in 2024 Biden is favored in all of those states (NV, AZ, GA, WI, MI, PA). Democrats also flipped key state legislature chambers in Minnesota, Michigan, and Pennsylvania (state house) and are poised to flip the PA state senate, NH state house, and AZ state legislature in 2024 (maybe even NC). IA, OH, and FL are too Republican for democrats to win state legislatures in 2024 and WI, GA, NH state senate, and TX are too gerrymandered for democrats to win in 2024. But even than Democrats look good to gain more ground in two years. And yes Republicans retook the house, but it was no red wave and Republicans must defend 18 Biden districts (many WILL flip to democrats in 2024) and democrats only need to defend 5 Trump districts. Democrats will likely retake the house in 2024 and Republicans are only favored to retake the Senate in 2024 because democrats must win MT, OH, and WV all deep red states but democrats winning 48 senate seats in 2024 but winning AZ, NV, PA, MI, and WI I’d still consider a win for Democrats. If they can win MT and OH, flip AZ from Sinema and lose WV to Republicans but it’s Manchin losing, they can win a 50-50 Senate for democrats without Manchin or Sinema. That with a re-elected President Biden and Democrats retaking the house they barely lost in 2024, that means a more productive first half of Biden’s second term. Either way looks good for our amazing President. 🇺🇸🌊

Same in my country. You get a voter card in the mail to your mail address. You must present that with picture I.D.(my driver's license is good for that) for those people who do not drive, they can show an up to date passport with a picture or even CHEAPER, go to your city hall and carry all identifiers of you with you there and show the city clerk and tell them you need picture I.D. They used to do it for $5. and it looks like a driver's license and is good for 5 years. In that time, your looks change enough that they got to have a new updated photo of you (before you had a head of black hair and now you are bald and have bags under the eyes and your nose grew longer or something like that, usually wrinkles) Cost may be the same or slightly higher...inflation happens everywhere. That is adequate proof. No signature needed.

In Australia, we don't have to show proof of identity. We turn up, give our name to an official who looks it up on the role (if you've moved since the last election or changed name, you need to register your new address/name etc) and then they ask a few questions like address, date of birth etc to confirm we are who we say we are and they also ask if we voted somewhere else. Then they check us off the list. Simple and it works. If it turns out someone 'voted' twice, they will follow up on that. This year was the first year they marked us off online. Previous to that was done on paper. Doing so online is a safety improvement in my opinion. Only citizens who are registered can vote because if not on the list, you'll be turned away and no one gets deregistered from one election to the next. The only time you register again is as I sai above, if you moved or changed name.

I'm getting to the point where I feel they absolutely deserve what they get! If they can't even be bothered to come out & vote after losing basic human rights, such as with abortion & the justice system collapsing with trump's appointees, they never will & really don't deserve a democracy or freedom! We fight for ours in Australia! If the US put in 1% of the effort we do, their country would be a completely different place to live in, but they can't be bothered! It's pretty pathetic imo & quite frankly, it IS a mandate when those that got that majority are consistently the only ones that are willing to engage in politics enough to even bother to vote!

If the Greens had preferences to the independent, the independent would have won that seat, but equally, had the same campaign that was conducted to take out Trent Zimmerman been directed to the state vote, the independent would have won that one too, without the need for preferencing. The main reason for that close result in Glady's seat btw was that Labor didn't run a candidate, so their vote went to a mix of the independent & green. Tiny bit of campaigning in the Chinese section of the electorate, educating them that independents are a genuine option in Australia & the Independent would have won (she comfortably won all booths outside the Chinese dominate areas, with 60-80% of the vote in a lot of them). No reason at all the US can't replicate that scenario, with the major party not running a candidate to get an independent up & no reason they can't get a majority to the major party that's supporting voter rights, if their people were wiling to bother actually voting. The difference between the 2 countries in this situation is actually compulsory voting, rather than preferential voting. Most of their people who vote to the left, simply do not vote in most elections, especially mid-terms & yes, as you say, they discourage voting there too!

@@mehere8038 we do get donkey voting so Australia isn't exactly perfect but compared to the USA it's a blueprint to dredge a country out of the political quagmire that is sinking the USA. I don't exactly know if Canada is starting to worry either

@@haruhisuzumiya6650 donkey voting or informal voting? Unlikely donkey voting would have occurred in any meaningful way in a seat like Gladys'. I think it's on the decline nationwide now too, people in Australia saw with Gillard that politics could be made to work for them, if they were willing to engage with it & that they didn't have to fear creating hung parliaments etc, that the 2 majors had always used in fear tactics prior to that & I think our voting culture has changed a lot since then. Other factors involved as well, but I think Gillard was a bit one, cause I remember discussing the election in 2020 with Gillard haters & they were all quite happy with the result & referencing that Gillard made it work with no majority, so the 2020 parliament could be expected to too. I was pretty shocked hearing those people say that actually, really didn't expect it, but I really do think from that, that she's a big reason we have the current situation we have in Australia, combined with other stuff like "voices for Indi", who have also revolutionised how to do it in Australia

a little splash huh? is that what you call 50% of the population lossing control over their own bodies & no-one bothering to challenge it? You kinda deserve what you get if you're going to defend this stuff as if you did well. You did NOT! Your country's freedom has basically now had the last nail put into it's coffin!

I think that requires long form journalism. Like when Colbert started his SuperPac. That was hilarious and informative but definitely worked best when you tuned in nightly. It kind of feels like we have so many jobs that require constant training, that maybe people shouldn't stop taking civics classes just because they're no longer in school.
