Just playing Devil's advocate, and Russia is pretty much the Devil, it would be completely within their characteristics to state that the Russian jet was performing normal operations when the drone got in its way. However, we can tell by the video, especially with the second pass, that the act was an intentional attack on the slow drone. Imagine if this was on a passenger jet. It would be considered a criminal move. Drones have every right to be in the sky as much as manned air vehicles.

Actually, the collision damaged two of the four propeller blades. If you watch the entire clip, the one blade is obviously damaged and look closely and you will see another blade in a 'flat' or feathered pitch. Together, those two damaged blades made control of the drone impossible.

For example, during the Battle of Britain in WW2, British Spitfires developed the tactic of making contact with V1 Buzzbombs, (drones) to make them lose control and crash prior to reaching populated areas.

It's a three-bladed prop. Viewed frame-by-frame, one blade is twisted - one is bent and has had the tip ripped off - the third also has the tip missing. It is perfectly possible the drive shaft was also damaged. These are certainly signs of collision, not of an impact with an aerosol of light fuel oil as some above seem to believe.

As a former air combat fighter pilot, it appears to me that the Russian pilot screwed up. Overtaking a small and very slow target is not easy if you don't practice it and it looks to me like he had no intention of hitting the drone. Also, the trailing turbulence behind his airplane could be from using afterburners trying to pull away from the drone.

Seems the best thing to do would be to ram the fighter with the drone at the last moment, explode whatever it has on board, and say the explosion was caused by the collision. If they can kill an aircraft and a pilot in exchange for a drone then that would be a win, and would obviously be due to bad flying by the Russian aggressors, they already have form.. They have to ask themselves, how lucky do they feel?

That item that looks like a drone is an unidentified flying object with it's ID transponder disabled. Russian pilots did not know what it was and who it belongs to. It was flying near Russian borders and seemed to be gathering information military purposes and it was a hazard to aircraft flying in that area.

Looks like fake video to me... the propeller blade that was "struck" is bent toward the direction of travel in the propeller ark. If the propeller hit something the blade would be bent in the opposite direction. Also the land mas in the background changes very drastically. The first we see of land, behind the SU 27, it is miles away where it is hard to make out the cost line and when you see the bent propeller, in the background, the land is much closer.

The way to deal with this is to outfit the Surveillance Drones with Counter measures flares to deploy when Antagonists attack the drones by dumping jet fuel on the Drone . This would result in making the aggressor potentially A Russian Roman CandleBy its own Accord

Most interesting, that transpoder was OFF, and drone was in blocked area of flights during war operations, so it was legal target for both sides - russians and ukranians, even if it would be attacked by rockets, but looks like drone accidently moved in this area with accidently switched off transponder, and accidently was flying under russian jets when they was technical procedurs od dropping fuel condensete from gas tanks. So many accidents in one place in one time..

I draw no difference between them bumping it, or them shooting it down. Russia clearly meant to destroy the drone that was flying in International waters. Well 2 can play... MQ-9 can carry AIM-9X. Tell Ivan they come within missile radius (about 10 miles) of the drone they will be considered as hostile and shot down.

honestly man I think the drone and the MIG fighter jet were trying to race and its by accident , I don't think the Russian jet was trying to damage the drone , I think the drone and the Mig lost control , looks like typical road rage , doesn't look like the mig wanted to damage the drone , but I'm not an expert , I don't think it was an attempt to down the drone , the drone and the mig were probably trying to challenge each other and both lost control at some point in the black sea and the migs left the area , like a street race

Interesting comment from Spring Bloom. Check it out. So now we hear that there was probably interaction between Soviet military high command and the two pilots. This could explain the delay between initial contact, and final aggression against the drone. The decision making within those twenty odd minutes must have been quite intense, unless of course that the top brass considered the response would be fist waving at best, or no disclosure of the event at all. After all. Who else in the free global media would have known about it. ⛽💩💦🕳️🤓

The drone was below the plane, which means the pilot was blind to the location of the drone. In past, friendlier times US pilots flew with Russian pilots, and they concluded the Russian pilots were terrible. They were not capable of consistently flying formation. You think they can judge blind distance to another aircraft below them when they can not even hold formation to planes they could see? The final collision was not deliberate...it was pilot incompetence.
