@InfiniteMushroom Couldn't agree with you, more. The 1950s was a time of prosperity and enrichment for humankind, and there's nothing racist about saying that it was the white man that had brought these great times about. The truth is rarely ever spoken. It often seems that the simplicity of a clean, working society of class is lost to people, to the point where we've all given up on trying to bring them back simply because most have forgotten. We are all animals, yes, but only in the 1950s had we truly achieved the greatness and purity that humankind deserves, now, more than ever. I say that we all think, far far too much, and we all need to get together and find the core of happiness as we had found in the times after WW2. I am only 18, and I understand. We could always spread word to those who're uninformed, and maybe bring times of purity back? Possibly too far gone, eh? Let me know if I'm off-topic, or just blabbering. As for now, we should just enjoy the music from a long lost era. :)

And the lounge in the photo was on a jumbo jet, back when airline fares were regulated, and much higher than they are now. Airlines couldn't compete on price, so they had to compete on quality of service: the most comfortable seats, best meals, most attentive staff, onboard lounges, most frequent service. When fares were deregulated, it started a race to the bottom, as airlines cut their fares, but made up for it by shrinking seats (though people today are much bigger), and charging for even the most basic things, like baggage, carry-ons, and seat selection. Result: widespread air-rage, and drunken misbehaviour from people who should never have been allowed to board in their condition.

We had a Woolworth's in old downtown Granite City.. we always called it the dime store.. not sure why.... It was such a neat store... with the dinner.. and counter. I always loved eating there as a kid, in the 70's and 80's. Things started changing in the mid 80's. I think in the late 80's it closed... not long after they tore it down.. today its a parking lot. Across the street was the old Washington Theater, as a kid I remember it being so big and grand on the inside. I vaguely remember seeing the original Superman, Jaws, Grease, and probably other early movies there... sadly it too closed in the early 80's.. and buy the late 80's was torn down and turned into a bus station. I wish I had a time machine and I could go back and visit those place one more time

They'd bring you the malt in a glass plus the metal cup from the mixer for what didn't fit in the glass. I'd always get a chocolate malt and an order of fries at the counter. My other favorite thing as a kid was the candy kiosk at Sears, where I would get a little bag of chocolate stars. At the time I always thought this kind of music was annoying. Still do. 🙃

I TOTALLY know that exact place! The visual image i mean. Its the coach lounge they had on American Airlines 747s in the early 70s. Yes, that right, they used to have lounges in 2nd class back in the day. Vividly remember the strange illuminated display case in back of the bar, with carefully mounted sea shells. It was in the very back of the plane. Very cool feature. Our family made the trip in June of 1970. The 747 "Jumbo Jet" had just come out, with lots of hype and fanfare. I was SUPER stoked to be riding in a 747. JFK to SFO, later went to LA where i got to go to Disneyland. Flew back via TWA, also a 747. Such an epic trip.

That's what we boys all over the world have in common: having to wait while our mothers were chitchatting with the lady next door for felt an hour or two. We in East Germany had a slightly different shopping culture - but that didn't prevent it from happen. And even there folks went to the department store in the city centre well dressed and with jewellery, pearl necklaces, fur boots etc. That has changed a lot on both sides of the big pond. When you want to revive this experience, fly to Asia or South America - Italy and parts of Spain as well.

If you can locate it in the AM band and reception is clear, CFMB AM 1280 out of Montreal plays "musak" (as Iearn't this type of music is called) between 12AM and 5AM weekdays. I wish there was a radio station that played it regularly during daylight hours. AM580 CKLW (Windsor) still plays hits of the 50's/60's/70's regularly and still sounds like the AM days if you were not around in the era (like myself). I clearly remember this music as a child in the 80's being played at being played at three locations in my youth. Metro Detroit Airport, rest stops along the interstates and a hotel Lobby in Niagara Falls, Thank you for posting and Happy listening!

You notice everyone in the pictures wearing suits and the ladies are wearing dresses except for that one guy with a turtleneck and corduroys maybe. You dressed up you fixed your hair you respected yourself. Nowadays all these young ladies just pulling their hair up in a bun on top of their head and wearing tight fittings pajama pants that have an image of jeans on them or those thin black leotards that show every curve of their genitalia and rear end which is disgusting. It's as if people just want to be nasty and make it okay to be that way. Gentleman and ladies saying " Thank you " and the reply was either " You're very welcome" or " It was my pleasure ". If you said " Excuse me " the reply would be " Oh pardon me " or " Oh no, Excuse me " or " Oh sorry, am I in your way !? ". Nowadays the replies of " No problem " and " You're good " lack the manners of those days. Let's just be more polite and be thoughtful of others.

For many of you, like me: the term for nostalgia for an era that someone wasn't brought up in is often referred to as "anemoia", which was coined by John Koenig in his Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, and it refers to the feeling of nostalgia for a time you've never experienced. And if you weren't white, good luck trying to even walk through a K-Mart without triggering mass paranoia. Not saying that there weren't some nice things about the 70s -- I remember playing hide and seek all summer with the neighborhood kids until very, very late...the idea that we could get hurt or worse never even crossed our minds, or our parents.
