CO-OP (DOOM animation)

I animated most of it in 128x72, then blowed it up to 1080p.(first couple of shots were the oldest, and use somewhat random resolutions) The backgrounds were stitched together and shifted screenshots of a map I had made specificly for animations in GZdoom builder. The hellknight was suprisingly more difficult to draw them both doomguys combine(since it has a more visible musculature and has a couple more lighting layers).

As someone who animates in flash with 1024x768 as a resolution that technically isn't supposed to work, I can appreciate someone jumping through their hoops to do this stuff. Absolutely phenomenal work

I love the way the Hell Knight gets his hand and horn severed throughout the fight, it adds a great layer of depth to it that you (sadly) can't really get in the actual game, even with mods. Also love how the blue Doomguy's helmet gets broken, so you can see his face after he puts it back on. Reminds me of how the newer games show you his reflection when you get a powerup. Very great job, love your animations!

I mean for dynamic injuries on sprites that _don't_ have to use 200mb of storage to keep every individual state, I _suppose_ if you knew what you were doing you could seperate each sprite into seperate damaged and non-damaged chunks, then keep track of the following: - When an enemy is attacked, track down about where it intersects with the bounding box (exact point for raycasts, closest point for splash damage/projectiles) - What limbs/body parts are still physically _there_ (so those respective sprite chunks don't have to have further consideration at all, saves CPU time) - How damaged a part is, probably in 8-bit unsigned integer form (a classic!) Then, you just do like what ID themselves did for the doomguy head on the HUD, and change the sprite based on the damage. Once you have all the necessary sprites kept track of, you just layer 'em at designated points along the billboarded sprite, probably with seperate tris for each part to simplify the rendering process (although that might need extra math to keep them aligned right; you don't want any ugly pixel-gaps between them...). Only problem is I'm not sure if even the more advanced ports like GZDoom just hand you a direct window into the rendering pipeline, which would make this way easier to do. Without *that,* you'd need to do some roundabout ways to render the sprites, which could hurt performance...

Um, Eternal has battle damage for enemies like that. The thing is you dont really notice unless you play on harder difficulties. I love how a Cyber Demons meat will start hanging off its metal and exploses ribs as you shoot it more on the higher difficulties. It makes it more satisfying to down the harder demons.
