As a former HS & College wrestler and now BJJ freak fan I absolutely LOVE the beautiful blend of both of my favorite sports! The synergy between the two is wonderful and symbiotic. So many great wrestling moves with slight techniqe tweeks make GREAT additions to BJJ arsenals. There is a very strong catch wrestling movement resurging and it's great. Great work.

I really love this channel. A lot of gems for jiu jitsu guys. I'm a white belt, but when I roll with even higher belts like blue and purple, their stand-up game isn't that good they can't even take me down and they just pull guard instead. Nothing to brag about, but shows how important it is to develop your stand-up game and do so early on. Thanks Coach!

I'm 70 years old. Blue belt. Wrestled in high school. Training Bjj for 4 years now. I have used this move successfully ever since I saw it on this channel. Taking down guys 1/3 my age. Has worked on blue belts, purple belts, and brown belts so far. It works. It also works from scrambles on your knees. In fact, I have used it from combat base (headquarters) more often than from stand up. Watch the video, pay attention, this is sweet.
@BooLee016 жыл бұрын
I am a 57 year old (barely) blue belt with COPD. I drill a lot but only roll once in a great while because I usually run out of air before anyone can sink in a submission and it's just not fair to my partners. I watched this video a couple of times and two days later I rolled with a big slab of muscle in my class who has been a wrestler for years but only been in BJJ for less than a year. We faced each other and the very first move was me doing this throw. It worked like a charm. I think my partner and I were both equally shocked by it. Of course--after we hit the ground--he ended up smothering my face till I couldn't breath and, when he felt me give up, he got behind me and sank in a choke. But I still considered it a good roll because my goal was to pull off this move and I did it. Thanks, Coach Brian.

Had to pause at 1:20 This is why you're THE BEST coach on the planet in my opinion...you're literally teaching him to feel with his entire body as he's mounted, free the lock and escape from a terrible position for anyone to be in for any reason. That's the highest level of grappling. The rest is training the body to feel these points always on the way to your finish.

I watched this video a while ago and have been having a lot of success with this "special lat drop." I'm an older grappler, 40 years old now, but I'm able to hit this in my bjj class against younger and bigger guys. I've been holding on to that over-hook, throwing my legs over their body and lock the shoulder! Been working like a charm!

Love this move !!! I'm a traditional thrower (under hook and step) but noticed with bigger guys they would end up on me and I would have to work hard to reset. This move literally will create state champions

Thanks coach. I'm a patreon subscriber and money well spent. I hit this takedown last night a couple of times it was awesome. I find the higher belts though won't take the bait. Dude, i have been using this grip for a long time in jiu-jitsu classes. It's a super safe grip to use for jumping guard, and for controlling the opponent in butterfly guard. Used to grap my bicep though, exited to try grapping the forarm, and to play with the takedown too. Good stuff man,

Thanks coach! I love this stuff. Great entry into what Jeff Glover calls the "Suzanne Somers" he has right arm all the way to his thigh, then if they try to walk legs towards him, he hooks their right leg with his left elbow, with both hands holding his thighs, just squeezes them together like a ThighMaster. For extra pressure on super stubborn people, roll towards their head to stack them and squeeze thighs more.
@TeachMeGrappling6 жыл бұрын
Yes I’m familiar. Someday I will do a video on it!
@olbrocko6 жыл бұрын
He has a deep arm inside headlock (kesa gatame) and with his other arm hooks the leg and squeezes. Does he hook their top leg or bottom leg?
@WreckRod6 жыл бұрын
Same side leg and arm. So if he has opponent's right arm, hooks their right leg (or bottom if they're on their side) It's a pressure move, so opponent should be flat on their back and carrying all the weight with their ribs/chest (your hips off the mat, feet driving)
@ArchieSuave6 жыл бұрын
Awesome detail at 9:30

Sorry if its been covered, but i would love to see a series of submissions that would be an easy learn for someone with a wrestling background. The cowcatcher-neck crank is a perfect example. We're used to pinning people which doesn't do a lot of good if forced to defend ourselves.

@TeachMeGrappling6 жыл бұрын
Yep... pretty much the same with a “special” grip. 😉
@asteriskcolon6 жыл бұрын
Uki-waza is just the "forward" version of Tani Otoshi / Yoko Otoshi. The step-through is not a match to this technique The throw he demonstrates is closer to a Yoko Guruma than it is an Uki Waza. But yes, that plus the special grip.
